by RubDMC Mon Aug 14th, 2006 at 03:53:14 AM EST

this diary is dedicated to all who suffer because of war

we love and support our troops, just as we love and support the Iraqi people - without exception, or precondition, or judgement.

An unidentified mourner watches at the graveside ceremony for U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Kurt Dechen in Springfield, Vt., Friday, Aug. 11, 2006. Funeral services were held for Dechen, who was killed Aug. 3, his 24th birthday, in Fallujah, Iraq. Hundreds of mourners packed the Springfield First Congregational Church to pay their respects, some listening in tears as Dechen was described as a man who loved people, Corvettes and sports but embraced his obligation as a Marine to the country and the world.

Momma take the pillow from under my head, now
Allelu
Said take the pillow from under my head
Allelu, allelu
Well, take the pillow from under my head
Jesus's gonna make up my dyin' bed
Then you'll need that true religion
Allelu

Doctor, doctor, lookin' sad
Allelu
Said doctor, doctor lookin' sad
Allelu, allelu
Well, doctor, doctor lookin' sad
"Strangest case I ever had."
Then you'll need that true religion
Allelu

Crossin' the Jordan, I need not fear
Allelu
Said, crossin' Jordan, I need not fear
Allelu, allelu
Well, crossin' Jordan, I need not fear
Jesus' gonna be the engineer
Then you'll need that true religion
Allelu

Momma take the pillow from under my head, now
Allelu
Said take the pillow from under my head
Allelu, allelu
Well, take the pillow from under my head
Jesus's gonna make up my dyin' bed
Then you'll need that true religion
Allelu
Then you'll need that true religion

The candle that DianeL first lit many months ago, and which has become such an important part of these diaries since, is still available here.

You can copy that image into your own comment (you can leave it on my server), craft your own image, and/or rate this one - not for mojo, but to leave a small mark after taking this moment - as a sign that you know, but do not approve, and are not resigned.
