Welcome to European Tribune. It's gone a bit quiet around here these days, but it's still going.

Mearsheimer: There will be no two-state solution

by shergald Fri Sep 10th, 2010 at 08:32:39 PM EST

...only a greater Israel, and Palestinians will need the int'l community in the coming fight against apartheid

"Empire" host Marwan Bishara speaks of the "Zionist lobby" and the current Isreali-Palestinian peace talks with Nabil Shaath of the P.A., former negotiator Rob Malley, and John Mearsheimer, co-author of The Israel Lobby.

Some of Mearsheimer's quotes:

"The talks are going to fail and who's going to be blamed-- the Palestinians."

[Obama has caved to Netanyahu twice. In July, Obama invited Netanyahu to the White House and] "treated him like visiting royalty. He's 0 for 2. He's bringing these two leaders to Washington with no sense of how they're going to reach agreement... Israel holds virtually all the cards in this game... And President Obama has proved clearly that he's incapable of putting pressure on Israel... The [cause] is very simple, the Israel lobby here in the United States.

"The peace process was not a major step forward because it's led nowhere and has provided perfect cover to the Israelis to continue colonization... The peace process is a charade....

(and on and on)

Clinton:  "Ooooh, Bibi, you are my idol!!"

Net:  "I know.  We'll keep funding your campaigns"

Abbas:  "Well, I was bought and paid for years ago, so I'll just sit here and say 'yes, sir'.

Shergald, I miss your contributions here. Also, I notice you aren't contributing 'Quick Hits' to Openleft.com recently. Hey, but if the Real World is where the action is, and it usually is, good for you.

BTW, one of the more productive takes nowadays is exposing this sort of extremely under-reported stuff about Israel:

Watch: As Israel Slides Toward Fascism, Citizens and Supporters Swear Their Loyalty

Would such an oath count as a "routine" oath taken when becoming a citizen, or not? In the latter case, could it result in those American-Israelis who take it losing their U.S. citizenship? (I mean, should it have that effect according to the law? I know it won't in practice....)

If this was presented as a possible consequence, what effect would it have on enthusiasm for the proposed law?
