France: last Sunday's left-wing meeting in Bastille

A few pics of last Sunday's meeting of the "Front de Gauche" party.
This is a very left-wing party (I'm talking American here). It is believed to get something like 10% of votes in the next presidential election. Objective (unsaid): weigh on the Socialist party (whose candidate is the favourite, but whose policies are general center-left, unlike the party's name) to get it to have a pro-left policy.

Enough said, and move on to the pictures.

The Bastille place is full!!

Having started at half past two, we arrived two hours later at Bastille, and were unable to step on the place itself, because of the crowd. The place behind the column was full too, according to a friend of mine who was on the other side (and whom I couldn't meet!)

A truly awesome answer to the Sarkozy's meeting in Villepinte last week.

The meeting was covered nicely online Sunday afternoon as it was taking place, but got overshadowed by the Toulouse killings in the news Monday.

New Poll, FdG third (none / 1)
Mélenchon is according to BVA now running in third place, surpassing Le Pen and Bayrou. This as Hollande preserves his lead in both rounds against Sarkozy...

Is BVA under a DOS attack? I tried to download the pdf but it failed at about 98% after twenty minutes. But here, it transpires that the poll was conducted on 21-22 March, so after the revelation that the killer was an Islamist.

Here is the result via the poll aggregator:

First round:

  1. Hollande 29.5% (-1.5)
  2. Sarkozy 28.0% (+2.0)
  3. Mélenchon 14.0% (+5.0)
  4. Le Pen 13.0% (-2.0)
  5. Bayrou 12.0% (-1.0)
  6. Joly 2.0% (-1.0)
  7. Dupont-Aignan 1.5% (+0.5)

All others 0%.

Second round:

  1. Hollande 54% (-5)
  2. Sarkozy 46% (+5)

There is the Ifop running internet poll though, averaged for 19-22 March, which has Sarko numerically ahead in the first round at 28% to 27.5%, and Le Pen far ahead of the other two contenders for third place at 17%.
