Obama, Bandar Bin Sultan said, "would promise something and do the opposite." He spoke critically of the Iran nuclear deal and how the former president spoke about curbing Iran but failed.
Former US president Barack Obama lied to Saudi Arabia when violating the redlines he famously declared regarding Syria's use of chemical weapons and then not acting when they were used, a former senior Saudi official said in an interview with Independent Arabia.
Bandar bin Sultan served for years as head of Saudi intelligence as well as the Saudi ambassador to the United States. In the interview, he recalled a last phone call between the late Saudi King Abdullah and Obama, during which the Saudi leader told the US president: "I did not expect that [after] this long life, I would see [the day] when an American president lies to me."

Obama, bin Sultan said, "would promise something and do the opposite." He said that the president took the Middle East back 20 years and also spoke critically of the Iran nuclear deal and how the former president spoke publicly about curbing Iran's activities, but then went behind Saudi Arabia's back and negotiated the nuclear deal.
These policies by Obama, he said, emboldened Russia and Iran and paved the way for them to enter Syria and interfere in the civil war that has raged there since 2011.
Syrian President Bashar Assad, he said, was a "kid" and that while his late father Hafez was capable of making decisions, Bashar could not.
Regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, bin Sultan said that the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat committed a "crime" against his people by rejecting the peace plan proposed by former president Bill Clinton.
The former ambassador said that he met with the feared leader of Iran's al Quds Force, Gen. Qassem Soleimani, during a visit he made to Tehran.
"A coincidence led me to getting to (see) Soleimani face to face," bin Sultan said. "Until then, we had [only] heard of him without seeing him."

Bandar why do you spew these lies across the pages of the Internet. President Obama took over after eight years of Republican leadership after 9/11 that destroyed Afghanistan and the relations with Pakistan and Iran. Eight years where Republicans joined right-wing politicians in Israel and the Likud leadership to invade Iraq and maim, kill tens of thousands of innocent people. The invasion and occupation caused the majority of Shiites to gain political power in Iraq. Saudi Arabia and the late King were opposed to the decision by the Bush regime and Jewish cabal in the White House. As predicted, Iran grabbed this God given opportunity to extend its influence to the border with the state of Israel and land of Palestine.
In Syria the Sunni part of the people were educated in Wahhabism through hate preachers funded by the Saudi regime for decades. Another part of the Sunni population belonged to the Muslim Brotherhood and supported by Turkey and Qatar. These factions were united to destroy the Alawites in Syria, the elites of dictator Assad, father and son. Iraq, Syria and Libya were sovereign states destroyed by outside forces in our lifetime. Lest we forget about the Sunni inspired slaughter in Yemen. A powerful allied force from Saudi Arabia and the Emirates destroying another poor nation. The weapons, munitions, military aircraft bought with oil money from the United Kingdom, France and the United States. Pilots and military leaders from these two Arab nations were well bred elites who were educated in the best universities in the UK and US. Independent Arabia launched by Saudi media group SRMG
LONDON, UK - Independent Arabia has been launched under a licensing agreement between the UK news brand and the Saudi Research and Marketing Group (SRMG) , it was announced on Thursday.
The launch of the news service -- www.independentarabia.com -- marks the first phase of a deal between SRMG and the publisher of The Independent, which started life as a national newspaper in the UK.
Independent-branded digital properties will be launched in Arabic, Turkish, Urdu and Persian.
The Arabic-language news service will be staffed by a team of experienced journalists from Saudi Arabia and the wider Arab world, and based in London, according to a statement issued by SRMG.
SRMG also announced the appointment of Saudi journalist and political analyst Adhwan AlAhmary as editor-in-chief of Independent Arabia.
AlAhmary has 16 years of experience in the industry, having worked for Al-Watan, Al-Hayat, and Asharq Al-Awsat newspapers, as well as in television.
Abdulrahman bin Ibrahim Rwaita, chairman of SRMG, said: "We are delighted to launch this distinguished project and to have built this great relationship with The Independent."
SRMG is also the publisher of Arab News and Asharq Al-Awsat.

SUMMARY INTRODUCTION
Preventing Iran from achieving nuclear weapons capability is the most urgent national security challenge facing the United States. Despite enduring 15 years of sanctions, a cyber attack on its nuclear facilities and other setbacks, Iran is approaching the nuclear threshold. Successive U.S. administrations, including Obama's, have declared a nuclear weapons-capable Iran "unacceptable." Indeed, since its establishment in 1979, the Islamic Republic of Iran has continually threatened U.S. strategic and economic interests. Led by messianic, extremist revolutionaries, the country terrorizes both its own people and its enemies abroad, subverts neighboring governments and America's regional allies, and works to drive up oil prices as a mechanism of economic warfare. The Islamic Republic of Iran cannot be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons capability.
If it did, containing it would prove a gravely challenging and costly task. An Iran with nuclear weapons, which the ideologically fervent Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) would control, will trigger severe strategic and economic consequences, and create an unstable situation that could lead to a nuclear conflict between Iran and Israel, almost certainly drawing in the United States. Moreover, Iranian possession of nuclear weapons would trigger a spike in oil prices for a sustained period, further undercutting the global economy. And even though current policies have failed to reverse Iran's nuclear progress, until recently there was almost no discussion of fresh policy options. The Obama administration has yet to make the toughest choices and has appeared increasingly more focused on isolating Iran than preventing it from achieving nuclear weapons capability. Unless the United States soon takes a more assertive leadership role, Iran could develop nuclear weapons capability in 2012 and Israel is likely to feel compelled to take unilateral military action against Iran. We must stop the clock.
