EU Citizens Push for Better Wages for Gig* Economy Workers

The European Commission [!] gave the green light Tuesday to a citizen's petition seeking a minimum wage for gig* economy workers, allowing petition organizers to begin collecting signatures of support.

Some know well that struggles for social benefits and standardized contracts and against wage discrimination of disabled workers in various EU member states, for example, is a long story.

Initiative organizers have a year to collect at least 1 million signatures from no fewer than seven EU states to move their petition to the next step: commission action. The commission will have three months to decide whether or not to implement the actions sought by the initiative, and must explain its decision either way in writing.

Finnish police uncover sprawling child sex abuse ring

a pedophile ring with links to 17 Western countries. Chief Investigator Sanna Springare did not say what other countries were involved, only that several were European. She also cited the need to protect victims' privacy as she declined to give details as to where the crimes took place. Clear and present disaster is happening right now in the Midwest.

Nothing is going to be done to prepare for Climate Change. To do so would put a massive dent in the profits of the automotive (~20% of the US economy, when all is said and done) and energy (~8% of GDP) industries and negatively affect the FIRE sector (~20% of GDP) in ways too complicated for me to sort out.
