Planting trees is by far the best carbon capture technology.
Of course, if it's classical forestry, milled after 30 or 40 years, it's a zero sum game. The economic model has to cover the whole life cycle, including the long-termsequestration of the carbon. Biochar as the end product, for example.

I think at this point, finding a way to grow trees and then bury them while using as little energy in cutting, transport, and earth moving as possible, is in order. Maybe they can be used to bolster long term soil development, or not, but the carbon reductions needed mean that just about any use is too much.

Burying doesn't really cut it cos you need the wood out of circulation for at least 500 years before the methane/CO2 returns to the environment.

As I've said before, I believe that if you can drag wood down to 80-100 m of water depth it loses bouyancy and sinks. So, the wood should be sunk in deep ocean.

I am not so sure about that "500 years" part, but I could be convinced by a link to an explanation backed by research and evidence.

There are reasons for my skepticism, both from common sense and history. Carbon added to the atmosphere in the 20th century is already having an effect, so it seems like if it works in one direction on the scale of 50 to 100 years, it oughta work in the other direction as well. After all, 10 million tons of logs in the dirt is still a lot of carbon that is not in the atmosphere NOW.

Also, we have the re-afforestation of the Americas in the 1500's as an example. Native American agriculture and land management practices had maintained substnatial bits of North and South America in grasslands of one sort of another. As their societies were shattered by disease/enslavement/genocide, most of those practices were abandoned, even in areas far removed from direct European contact. The reforestation that took place over the following years is suggested by some researchers to have had a fairly rapid cooling effect on general world climate. The science is far from unaninmous or conclusive, but it is suggestive.

Research team suggests European Little Ice Age came about due to reforestation in New World

Improved farming and range management can result in the sequestration of tens of tons of carbon per acre in the soil. It is estimated that amounts of carbon of the order of tens of tons have been lost from North American soil since the beginning of the 19th century.
Soil Carbon and the Global Carbon Cycle
The amount of C in soil represents a substantial portion of the carbon found in terrestrial ecosystems of the planet. Total C in terrestrial ecosystems is approximately 3170 gigatons (GT; 1 GT = 1 petagram = 1 billion metric tons). Of this amount, nearly 80% (2500 GT) is found in soil (Lal 2008). Soil carbon can be either organic (1550 GT) or inorganic carbon (950 GT). The latter consists of elemental carbon and carbonate materials such as calcite, dolomite, and gypsum (Lal 2004). The amount of carbon found in living plants and animals is comparatively small relative to that found in soil (560 GT). The soil carbon pool is approximately 3.1 times larger than the atmospheric pool of 800 GT (Oelkers & Cole 2008). Only the ocean has a larger carbon pool, at about 38,400 GT of C, mostly in inorganic forms (Houghton 2007).

Biochar is stable in the soil for thousands of years. cf. Terra preta, a technique of soil amendment that allowed the poor Amazonian soils to support large-scale agriculture before European contact.

An integrated program to plant trees, mill them and convert them semi-industrially to biochar, improving agricultural soils, might well be self-sustaining if well designed (but needing capital obviously)

With Big Tech's dominance under scrutiny, EU PROBES Amazon
The European Union said Wednesday it is investigating whether Amazon uses data from independent retailers to gain an unfair advantage, a decision that could lead to changes in how the internet's biggest marketplace works.

The move echoes similar antitrust actions against Google and Microsoft that have led to billions in fines. It also contrasts with U.S. lawmakers' slooooooower approach to the issue, as they start discussing how to curb the growing power of the tech industry's titans.

So Democratic Rep. Joe Neguse of Colorado asked Facebook's head of global policy development, Matt Perault, to name the world's largest social network by active users. (It is Facebook.) When Perault said he couldn't, Neguse ticked off four of the six largest -- Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp -- and had Perault verify that all are owned by Facebook.

"We have a word for that and that word is monopoly, or at least monopoly power," Neguse said.

A Tuesday hearing in Washington looked into whether the companies' originally designed to combat railroad and oil monopolies. Any U.S. action is still a long time away.
Clayton is the motherlode of antitrust actions across industry sectors.
The EU's antitrust chief, Margrethe Vestager, said she's taking a "very close look" at Amazon's dual role as marketplace broker and retailer.

[Iran, China, Russia and EU] recommit to saving Iran deal, oppose US sanctions
Iran's recent moves -- which it defends as permissible after the U.S. withdrawal -- are seen as a way to force the others to openly confront the sanctions. Araghchi told reporters in Farsi after the meeting that Iran would continue decreasing its commitments until the Europeans meet its demands.

At the Sunday meeting, Fu said, the Europeans urged Iran to come back to full compliance and Iran urged the European Union, France, Britain and Germany to implement their part of the deal.

Fu said all sides expressed strong opposition against the unilateral imposition of sanctions by the U.S., especially the extraterritorial application of the sanctions. They also voiced support for China's efforts to maintain normal trade and oil relations with Iran, Fu added.

Three formally charged in Malta for murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia
Three men have been formally charged over the 2017 murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, a Maltese anti-corruption journalist and blogger who was killed by a car bomb in November 2017.

Brothers Alfred and George Degiorgio, and Vincent Muscat, all in their fifties, were arrested in December of that year.

The justice ministry's confirmation of the charges, which allows a trial to be held, came on Tuesday just days before a 20-month deadline. The public prosecutor has further 20 months to set a date for the trial, which legal experts say may not take place for years.

Yes, as any reasonable person would assume, this is simply holding Stormont hostage for the return of the devolved government. I'm sure the people who proposed the amendments were sincere in wanting these measures to be enacted in Ulster, but I suspect that most MPs voted for it out of a sense of mischief to drag the DUP back. they could do it tomorrow if they really wanted to.

I imagine that the DUP and Sinn Fein (both massively socially regressive) will agree to re-open for a single day, which should be enough for the bill to fail.

Too much is changing on too many fronts. Trumpism may not be temporary. He may well be re-elected next year (as Darroch himself pointed out in a memo). The underpinnings of Trumpism, in the shape of populist nationalism and contempt for other countries, alliances and accords, go much deeper, both in the US and in Brexit Britain. If Johnson, or any other Brexiter leader, gets his way, Britain may once again embrace the US. But the America they embrace will not be the outward-looking republic of presidents from Eisenhower to Obama but an inward-looking exceptionalist country that seeks to disrupt everything about the international order. In such a world, Britain risks becoming the vassal of a capricious unilateralist state. Johnson or his successor would be Britain's Carrie Lam to Washington's Xi Jinping.

This is a new world. There are no precedents. Britain's postwar belief that it is a unique bridge between Europe and the US is more rickety now than ever. The Brexiters are set on destroying one end of the bridge. Trump is equally bent on blowing up the other.

Brexit has just taken an ugly lurch. This piece is really worth a read, between two spins on the helter-skelter.

the whole Darroch debacle has gone very quickly from an embarrassment to raging fever.

It was bad enough that Trump decided to render the ambassador persona non grata but when, in the middle of a leadership debate, Boris Johnston was lukewarm about supporting the ambassador all sorts of doors blew off.

If the civil service cannot trust the government to support them, then their job is impossible. A government cannot function internationally unless it receives good honest advice and information from its ambassadors about the governments with which it deals. (This is a good thread about what goes wrong if an ambassador goes native

Also, the civil service are gonna dig up the drains to find out who did this. This is a dagger aimed at the very concept of governance. And whoever is caught is gonna have their nails pulled out till they explain the motivation, who they were working for etc.
This could get very bad very quickly.

People keep going on about the "deep state" digging in to fight against Trump and his incompetent cronies ... and nothing continues to happen. Maybe professionalism and bureaucratic self-preservation will prove stronger in the UK, but in the US the civil service seems to have been brought to heel.

But there will come a time, probably at some point this year, when Johnson is standing at a podium next to Donald Trump, and somebody from the media will read out what Johnson said about him, to a TV news crew in 2015. That was when he called him "stupefyingly ignorant" and "unfit to hold the office of president".

Trump has already been allowed to choose his own UK ambassador. At that moment, we'll get to see whether he's also allowed to choose his own UK prime minister. Because from that stunningly inevitable moment on, it will no longer be Boris Johnson.

"...when Johnson is standing at a podium next to Donald Trump" assuming that the almighty US of A gives a hoot about some small isolated island off the coast of Europe.

For comparison, the US president did take a phone call from the Prime Minister of the Republic of China (aka Taiwan) in 2016, another country similarly situated with respect to a major US trading partner. First time for such communication since 1979, and a diplomatic disaster worthy of its own Wikipedia page.

(Note, population of Taiwan is about half that of England, but their GDPs are about the same.)

Publishers of religious books are warning that President Donald Trump's latest proposed tariffs on Chinese imports could result in a Bible shortage in the U.S.

Tens of millions of bibles are printed in China each year, with some estimates as high as 150 million. Publishers large and small testified against the proposed tariff in hearings last month, saying it would make the Bible more expensive for consumers and Christian organizations that give away Bibles as part of their ministry. The proposed tariffs are currently on hold as trade negotiations resume following months of parrying by U.S. and China officials.

Isaiah 23:1-3 reveal that Chittim, modern-day China, will form a part of a global economic market along with Europe, one that is prophesied to shut out the nations of Israel. It should be no surprise that China will be an integral part of this economic partnership with Europe, as it is now the world's greatest exporter. Both paper and electronic questionnaires would need to add the citizenship item. Until and unless proven by testing, it cannot be assumed that respondents would react the same way to any question, citizenship or other, on a paper as on an electronic form. This deficiency was remarkably manifested at oral argument when counsel for the District and Maryland, upon being questioned, was repeatedly unable to articulate the terms of the injunction that the District and Maryland were seeking to redress the alleged violations.
[...]
In any event, for the reasons given, we grant the President's petition for a writ of mandamus and, taking jurisdiction under 28 U.S.C. § 1292(b), hold that the District and Maryland do not have Article III standing to pursue their claims against the President. Accordingly, we reverse the district court's orders denying the President's motion to dismiss filed in his official capacity, and, in light of our related decision in No. 18-2488, we remand with instructions that the court dismiss the District and Maryland's complaint with prejudice.

Expert Witness Says Mapmaker Used Racial Data to Create North Carolina Voting Districts

Did you know that North Carolina was one of the states covered by Sec. 5 when the SCOTUS trashed the VRA in 2013? I might have mentioned.

At the time, Chief Justice ROBERTS--joined by A. KENNEDY, C. THOMAS, S. ALLITO, A. SCALIA--explained "Coverage [formula] today is based on decades-old data and eradicated practices. ... And voter registration and turnout numbers in covered States have risen dramatically." The court did not order new measurements, and the administration didn't propose any. Editors of the Brennan Center for Justice noted in 2018, "The decision in Shelby County opened the floodgates to laws restricting voting throughout the United States."

Amazon Minnesota warehouse workers plan 'Prime Day' strike
This was* SEIU PR.
--
* PR updated this weekend to exploit Trunp tweet publicity tagged Somali, Omar, Muslim, racist. One earlier version cited a "statement" by an unidentified SEIU local in Minneapolis claiming to have organized the employees and encouraging AMZN shoppers to boycott sales during the 6 hour "strike". AMZN shifts are 4 hrs +1 hr if mandatory OT demanded. Direct and temp employees may not apply earned, unpaid Personal Time Off (PTO) hours to reduce mandatory shift, posted as little as 12 hrs advance notice per "business needs". Earned paid Personal Time (PPT) requires 24 hr advance approval. No union has been able to organize AMZN employees in N.A. And earlier this year temp employees unsuccessfully challenged standard AMZN disciplinary action at the NLRB. Comparisons to EU industrial actions are ludicrous.

Road-tripping with the Amazon nomads
Anderson is an Amazon nomad, part of a small group of merchants who travel the backroads of America searching clearance aisles and dying chains for goods to sell on Amazon. Some live out of RVs and vans, moving from town to town, only stopping long enough to pick the stores clean and ship their wares to Amazon's fulfillment centers [...]

"The best part is just seeing the country," says Jamison Philippi, who recently spent nine months on the road clearing out closing Toys R Us stores. In 2014, he was sleeping on a yoga mat on a friend's floor in Nashville and struggling to find work. He never took vacations growing up and always wanted to travel. Third Parties Challenge Hurdles to Ballot Access
the lawsuit states[] "This de facto financial barrier to participation is all but insurmountable for non-wealthy candidates and parties." The plaintiffs in the 31-page complaint, filed in Austin federal court, include the Libertarian, Constitution and Green Parties and six third-party and independent candidates for statewide office.
Texass test case
The third parties and candidates say state law provides three ways to get on the general election ballot. First, a political party must receive at least 20% of the vote in the previous gubernatorial election - something only the Democrats and Republicans have qualified for "since at least 1900," according to the complaint.

Second, a third party can nominate a candidate at a convention with at least 1% of Texans who voted for governor in the last election.
[...]
Third, independent candidates can get on the general election ballot if they collect petition signatures from at least 1% of voters in the previous gubernatorial election.
[...]
They contend the applicable sections of the laws are unconstitutional and seek a permanent injunction against the Texas secretary of state, a currently vacant position, from enforcing them.

Cuba debuts modern Chinese train as rail overhaul begins
"It marks a first step of an overhaul Cuba's communist government started early last year, repairing some 2,600 miles (4,200 kilometers) of aging tracks and dozens of tumble-down stations scattered around the island. ...The Havana-Guantanamo trip costs from 200 Cuban pesos (US$8) roundtrip, to as little as 20 Cuban pesos (80 US cents) between Havana-Matanzas, the first stop on the island-wide circuit."

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe's husband fears she will be forced to confess
The husband of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, the British-Iranian woman detained in Tehran, says he is becoming increasingly worried she is being pressured to sign a forced confession after she was moved to an isolated ward in a mental hospital.

Zaghari-Ratcliffe was moved to the mental ward of Iman Khomeini hospital on Monday - a move that the family initially welcomed after months of calling for her to get medical treatment.

Richard Ratcliffe told BBC Radio 4's Today programme his initial euphoria at the move turned to anguish after Revolutionary Guards blocked access to her father and consulate staff.

He claimed his wife's hunger strikes in protest at her continued detention could have prompted the Iranian authorities to move her. But he is worried by what the Revolutionary Guards may do to her.

Two years ago:

Boris Johnson `mistake' could harm case for Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, say family

Boris Johnson has been criticised for making a misleading statement about a British-Iranian woman serving a five-year jail term in Iran, in comments that appear to have complicated her legal case.

The UK foreign secretary condemned Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe's conviction for spying in Iran last week as a mockery of justice, but added that she was "simply teaching people journalism" - a statement her family and her employer both said was untrue.

On Saturday, three days after Johnson's statement to a parliamentary committee, Zaghari-Ratcliffe was summoned before an unscheduled court hearing, where the foreign secretary's comments were cited as proof that she was engaged in "propaganda against the regime".

France demands access to dual-national academic held in Iran

France has demanded immediate consular access to a senior French-Iranian academic who has been arrested in Iran.

Fariba Adelkhah, a prominent researcher in anthropology and social sciences based at the Paris political institute Sciences Po, is believed to have been arrested in June.

The detention risks increasing tension between Paris and Tehran at a critical moment in the crisis over Iran's nuclear deal. European foreign ministers were meeting in Brussels on Monday in an attempt to preserve the deal, which the US abandoned unilaterally a year ago leading to an accelerating reciprocal withdrawal by Iran.

The French foreign ministry said it had not yet been given "satisfactory" information on the status of Adelkhah, who is seen as one of France's top academics on Iran.

Ebola outbreak in Congo declared a global health emergency
This is the fifth such declaration in history. Previous emergencies were declared for the devastating 2014-16 Ebola outbreak in West Africa that killed more than 11,000 people, the emergence of Zika in the Americas, the swine flu pandemic and polio eradication. WHO defines a global emergency as an "extraordinary event" which constitutes a risk to other countries and requires a coordinated international response.
Last week the franchise discovered an infected person in Goma, DRC, who promptly died.

The estimated population of Goma is 2M.

Oddly enough, this person was an itinerant "pastor" like the congolese carrier identified last month in Uganda who purportedly infected family members on both sides of the border, when attending the burial of his grandson. That story endured several revisions until fading from AP headlines.

Clashes erupt as Hong Kong protest targets Chinese traders
"Walking behind a banner that read "Strictly enforce the law, stop cross-border traders," Saturday's marchers passed by pharmacies and cosmetic shops that are popular with Chinese tourists and traders who bring goods back to sell in the mainland. "
Economic History of British Hong Kong
The economic development of Hong Kong is unusual in a variety of respects. First, industrialization was accompanied by increasing numbers of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) rather than consolidation. In 1955, 91 percent of manufacturing establishments employed fewer than one hundred workers, a proportion that increased to 96.5 percent by 1975. Factories employing fewer than one hundred workers accounted for 42 percent of Hong Kong's domestic exports to the U.K. in 1968, amounting to HK$1.2 billion. At the end of 2002, SMEs still amounted to 98 percent of enterprises, providing 60 percent of total private employment.

Second, until the late 1960s, the government did not engage in active industrial planning. This was partly because the government was preoccupied with social spending on housing large flows of immigrants, and partly because of an ideological sympathy for free market forces.
[...]
From 1978 to 1997, visible trade between Hong Kong and the PRC grew at an average rate of 28% per annum. At the same time, Hong Kong firms began to move their labor-intensive activities to the mainland to take advantage of cheaper labor. The integration of Hong Kong with the Pearl River delta in Guangdong is the most striking aspect of these trade and investment links. At the end of 1997, the cumulative value of Hong Kong's direct investment in Guangdong was estimated at US$48 billion, accounting for almost 80% of the total foreign direct investment there.
[...]
While manufacturing was moved out of the colony during the 1980s and 1990s, there was a surge in the service sector....Employment in the service sector rose from 52% to 80% of the labor force from 1981 to 2000 while manufacturing employment fell from 39% to 10% in the same period.

There's a movement to turn Hong Kong back into a British colony 2016
You've also said Hong Kong culture, society and education are all under threat from China.

Yes, it's true. Hong Kong is a more civilized place than China. Hong Kong has always had lots of British values. We have law and order, the English language, some common cultural values and regulations. All of this forms the basis of a civilized place. For example, we throw our rubbish in the bin.

But now Hong Kong is deteriorating.

"Demoncracy" is not working for ya, huh.
Governors, Politics and the Colonial Offic: Public Policy in Hong Kong, 1918-58
The government of the British Crown Colony of Hong Kong established through two constitutional documents, the Letters Patent and Royal Instructions. Issued by the British government in the name of the Crown, the remained in force throughout Hong Kong's existence as a British Colony, subject to periodic updating. The Letters Patent allowed for the appointment of a Governor by the Crown as its representative in Hong Kong. He was assisted by civil servants, also known as officials, the most senior of who were formally appointed by Britain. The Governor governed Hong Kong by powers granted under the two documents. These enabled him to establish a Legislative Council to make and enforce laws "for the Peace, Order and good Government" of Hong Kong and set procedural rules on its operation. However, many powers were reserved to the British Crown. Laws enacted had to be referred to London for the Secretary of State to review and certify that they would not be disallowed. The British Parliament or the Privy Council could also enact legislation which would override locally enacted laws. The Governor was also constrained by Colonial Regulations mad by the Secretary of State. Although they reinforced his position as "the single and supreme authority responsible to, and representative of, His Majesty, they also required him to seek the Secretary of State's approval of the annual estimates of revenue and expenditure, supplementary expenditure and the appointment, promotion and posting of his senior officials. ...

A Bilingual Writer's Dilemma
That is why the best age to absorb a new language is between childhood and puberty when the learning curve reaches its peak, at which time it begins to decline gradually, although with large individual variations.
intellectual plasticity
But each language has a different structure and Spanish as such allows a more flowery expression, with the frequent use of symbols and figures of speech while in English there is an economy of expression not necessarily simpler, but merely less florid.
I don't know about that.
The baroque writers, very often, let themselves go too easily in their writing. They write in five pages what one could very well write in one. I too must have fallen into the baroque because I am Latin American, but I have always had a mistrust of it. I don't like turgid, voluminous sentences, full of adjectives and descriptions, purring and purring into the reader's ear. I know it's very charming, of course. It's very beautiful, but it's not me. I'm more on the side of Jorge Luis Borges.

Not sure if this goes here, Europe or under Trump. Maybe Trump is Klatsch.

Donald Trump on A$AP Rocky's Arrest in Sweden: "We'll Be Talking to Them"

Trump plans to take diplomatic action to free the rapper, who was arrested on July 2 on suspicion of assault. "Sweden is a great country. They are friends of mine, the leadership--and we are going to be calling, we'll be talking to them," Trump said during an unrelated press event in the Oval Office Friday afternoon, according to Page Six. "We've already started."

"I have been called by so many people asking me to help A$AP Rocky," he added, turning to his wife. "Actually, the one who knew about A$AP Rocky was our first lady, right? She was telling me about--'Can you help "A$AP Rocky?'"

Melania Trump went on to address the room. "We've been working with [the] State Department," she said. "We hope to get him home soon."

Doesn't seem to have worked so far.

ASAP Rocky remains in custody

ASAP Rocky remains in custody in Sweden for another week.

The US artist will stay at the Kronoberg jail at least until 25 July.

He is under suspicion of assault, a felony.

A Stockholm court on Friday afternoon ruled that US artist ASAP Rocky will remain in custody for at least another week, until 11am on Thurday 25 July.

The rapper, who has been jailed since 5 July, is under suspicion in a felony assault case after an incident in the Swedish capital on 30 June, together with two associates.

The prosecutor had requested the extension saying that the investigation needed more time. The Stockholm District Court granted it with the motivation that ASAP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, 30, risked trying to escape the country if he had been released.

ASAP Rocky's lawyer Slobodan Jovicic thinks that the ruling is unfair.

"I'm very disappointed about this," he said.

"Rakim Mayers is a world-famous artist. It's got an enormous attention in the media. And then one can really wonder whether it'd be reasonable to believe that he'd try to escape justice."

For new viewers, ASAP Rocky got arrested after a video was circulated online were he first throws a man on the street, then kicks him. He was in Sweden to perform, and the police waited until after the performance to arrest him. He has been remanded for two weeks, and was now re-remanded for another week. So far the victim - who ASAP Rocky's bodyguard accuses of assault - appears not to have been identified by the police, which may be what is delaying the investigation.

Sweden does not practise bail, the suspicions are strong and the court views the suspect as a potential fugitive, hence the remand. The police investigation is unlikely to be finished unless the victim appears, and considerng that he hasn't so far, I guess it is likely that he won't. But we will see in a week if the prosecutor has advanced the investigation enough to charge, or if the court will have a new remand hearing.

Some people has other ideas about how to proceed:

"Sweden does not practise bail"
No kidding?
While not an option in Sweden, bail is common in the United States. A defendant is allowed to post an amount of money set by the court to guarantee the defendant will appear for trial if he or she is freed pending those proceedings.
defense? counsel for the defendant?
Lofven "made certain to emphasize the complete independence of the Swedish judicial system, prosecutors and courts," Eriksson said in a statement. "He underlined that in Sweden everyone is equal before the law and that the government cannot and will not attempt to influence the legal proceedings."
why, no.
Rocky has been behind bars while Swedish police investigate the fight in Stockholm he allegedly was in before appearing at a music festival.
It appears, A$AP has not been charged with a crime. unprecedented. inconceivable. egregious.

defense? counsel for the defendant?

That would be Slobodan Jovicic, that I quoted above. If there is a remand hearing, you are in Sweden provided with a public defender, free of charge. Public defender is in Sweden a well renumerated, high status profession.

From my friend Maireid Sullivan in the Irish diaspora:

PM/Taoiseach Leo Varadkar was visiting County Offaly primary school and the class was in the middle of a discussion about words and their meanings.
The teacher asked Mr. Varadkar if he would like to lead the discussion on the word 'Tragedy'.
So Mr. Varadkar asked the class if they could think of an example of a tragedy?
A little boy stood up and said, 'If a man walks out in front of a bus and is killed stone dead, then that is a tragedy."
'Incorrect,' said Leo 'That would merely be an accident.'
A little girl stood up and said 'If a school bus carrying thirty children drove over a cliff, killing everybody inside, that would be a tragedy.'
'I'm afraid not', said Leo, 'That's what we would call a great loss'.
The room went silent. No other kid volunteered. Leo searched the room.
'Isn't there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?'
Finally, little Johnny raised his hand from the back of the class and said, 'If a plane carrying you and all the Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and Labour T.D.s was hit by a missile and blown to smithereens, that would be a tragedy.'
'Fantastic!' exclaimed Leo. 'And can you tell me why that would be a tragedy?'
'Well,' said little Johnny, 'It has to be a tragedy, because it certainly wouldn't be a great loss, and it probably wouldn't be an accident either'
