Originally the interviewing FBI agents testified Flynn did not lie, the FBI director said Flynn did not lie and the FBI deputy director said Flynn did not lie.  FBI did not even bother to report the interview.

Then Mueller's team came up with the "Flynn lied" by interviewing the agents who interviewed Flynn, and coming to conclusion that they had enough on Flynn to put pressure on him to get to Trump's dirty laundry.

That is how Mueller has done investigations trough his career -- he doen't go for the big fish directly, but forces the little fish to cooperate. That way he often got the guy he was after, not for the things accused of but for lying to the investigators (because his team always knew more). So, he's your go-to man when there's no actual evidence.

Also as DIA Director Michael Flynn ruffled some feathers ... the intelligence community was looking for payback time.

Trump's Generals, Part 3: Mike Flynn vs. Al-Qaeda

At  the DIA, Flynn's perception of the growing threat posed by Islamist extremists put him at odds with the triumphalist narrative coming out of the White House. With the death of Osama bin Laden and many of his top lieutenants in 2011, the Obama administration argued that Al Qaeda "core" was "decimated," and the threat from terrorism rapidly diminishing. In 2012, the National Intelligence Council had even crafted a draft National Intelligence Estimate -- a document supposed to represent the consensus view of the US intelligence community -- which reportedly concluded that Al Qaeda was no longer a threat to the United States.

AFAICT from my K12 teachers' feeds, US con law (electoral controversy) is going to be very, very low on the democracy pole for some years to come.

2020 is the "season" to pivot US social studies to "racial justice" folklore and "false narratives" embedded in curricular materials. A lot of supplementary texts are priming the pipeline of formal and informal "anti-racist" pedagogy--ironically liberated by remote, decentralized ahh teachers' tools and thinly-veiled resentment of obligatory, unpaid "professional development". To be "fair," in a racist state such as US, every race will have its day or month to "be seen" in the light of unappreciated ahh contributions to "white supremacy" a/k/a capitalist enterprise.

Let's recall the excitement worldwide provoked by BLM marches, toppling of heroic slave-traders (particularly Cristoforo Colombo), and Trump's reactionary EO defending federalists' Americana, followed by conspicuous, mostly municipal enactments of "Indigenous Day". Ancient puritan ablutions, dressed as a Thanksgiving Day legacy, is currently taking an annual but more vigorous beating even by trusted tabloid press' standards. Youth leadership in Climate Action, not so much.

< checks watch >

MLK (18 Jan) and Geo. Washington's and Abe Lincoln's birthdays d/b/a President's Day (15 Feb)--squeezing the inauguration of Our Bumper Sticker-- are the next opportunities when children likely will be called upon to study "systemic racism" inherent in commemoration of truth and justice. Over all and under more prosaic circumstances, I've no reason to expect US educators to abandon basic literacy instruction to supervise sullen discourse of partisan events among tweens, embargoed by SARS-CoV-2, little-no telecommunication service, class and "food insecurity".

Fakhrizadeh killing: Iran's security apparatus under scrutiny - DW
The outrage on Iranian social media after the death of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh  has been palpable. Countless tweets and comments posted by Iranians have disparaged the country's intelligence services and security apparatus for repressing students, women's rights activists, journalists and dissidents, but failing to "prevent the assassination of the country's top nuclear scientist."

Fakhrizadeh was killed on Friday in the outskirts of Tehran as attackers shot at his car, before detonating an explosive-laden pickup truck just meters away. The incident marks the third massive failure by the Islamic Republic's security apparatus -- which regularly boasts of having everything in the country under control -- in less than a year.

Up until Friday, it was nearly impossible to even find a picture of Fakhrizadeh online. Widely thought to have been the father of Iran's military nuclear program, he was one of the most well-protected people in the country.

Several seconds after the hit, the firing vehicle exploded to not leave any evidence behind, according to the report. The whole operation took three minutes and did not involve any assassins, Fars reported.

The investigators further found that the owner of the Nissan vehicle left Iran on October 29.

Condoleezza Rice has heralded the war as the "birth pangs of a new Middle East" | TIME |

Operation Cast Lead in Lebanon

Israel's savagery in 2008 ahead of the Obama Inauguration

Israel has never behaved otherwise. Right from the beginning, and even before Israel was founded, Zionist gangs led by future prime ministers were the first to introduce terrorism to the Middle East. Israel and its founders were the first to carry out political assassinations of United Nations officials and Palestinian leaders, as well as other truly terrorist attacks against hotels, railway stations and civilian Palestine government departments.

Israel brought nuclear weapons to the region and its chief innovations have been how to occupy, build settlements, usurp lands and rights by every means, commit massacres against civilians with advanced weapons, and invent new justifications for each crime. These have been its chief contributions to the region for 60 years.

Holocaust, Militarism and Machiavelli's Advice: How Fear Took Over Israel | Haaretz - Jan. 1, 2021 |

Israel may be the best-defended state in the world, but its people's existence is based on an ethos of constant fear.

In his famous handbook for rulers, dedicated to Lorenzo di Medici, Niccolò Machiavelli advised his eponymous prince to learn how to elicit both love and fear in his subjects. Being loved and feared at the same time was the best way to exercise power, but if you have to choose between them, Macchiaveli admonished, better to be feared, for fear of the prince will protect him and maintain social order (on condition that the prince is not cruel). Fear (instilled in others) is undoubtedly the emotion most relished by tyrants, with most, if not all, using it to build up their regimes.

Gun violence and the state of fear in the United States of America ... a perpetual movement of a Conservative society ... should not be the ideals of democracy.

Ex-Trump campaign aide sues over Russia probe surveillance | ABC News |

The suit from Carter Page alleges a series of omissions and errors made by FBI and Justice Department officials in applications they submitted in 2016 and 2017 to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to eavesdrop on Page on suspicion that he was an agent of Russia.

...
In the complaint, Page accuses the FBI of relying excessively for information on Christopher Steele [Orbis Business Intelligence Ltd with Sir Andrew Wood], a former British spy whose research during the 2016 campaign into Donald Trump's ties to Russia was funded by Democrats. It says the FBI failed to tell the surveillance court that Steele's primary source had contradicted information that Steele had attributed to him, or that Page had denied to an informant for the FBI having "any involvement with Russia on behalf of the Trump campaign."

The complaint also accuses the FBI of having misled the surveillance court about his relationship with the CIA, for whom Page had been an operational contact between 2008 and 2013. A former FBI lawyer, Kevin Clinesmith, pleaded guilty in August to altering an email to say that Page had not been a source for the CIA.

Ministers reject call for public inquiry into Pat Finucane murder | The Guardian |

Loyalist gunmen forced their way into Finucane's home on 12 February 1989 and shot the lawyer 14 times in front of his wife and three children. The 39-year-old had become prominent for defending IRA paramilitaries, often successfully.

It emerged that Brian Nelson, the Ulster Defence Association member who directed the organisation's attacks, was an agent controlled by the British army's force research unit.

The government promised a public inquiry in 2001, only to backtrack. The original investigation into the murder was ineffective and failed to meet the standards required under human Yrights law, the supreme court ruled last year.

Trump `raises $170m' for `election defence fund' and looks for more

US president Donald Trump has raised about $170 million (€142 million) since election day as his campaign operation has continued to aggressively solicit donations with hyped-up appeals that have funded his fruitless attempts to overturn the election and that have seeded his post-presidential political ambitions, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The money, much of which was raised in the first week after the election, according to the person, has arrived as Mr Trump has made false claims about fraud and sought to undermine public confidence in the legitimacy of president-elect Joe Biden's victory.

Instead of slowing down after the election, Mr Trump's campaign has ratcheted up its volume of email solicitations for cash, telling supporters that money was needed for an "election defence fund".

In reality, the fine print shows that the first 75 per cent of every contribution currently goes to a new political action committee that Mr Trump set up in mid-November, Save America, which can be used to fund his political activities going forward, including staff and travel. The other 25 per cent of each donation is directed to the Republican National Committee.

A donor has to give $5,000 to Mr Trump's new PAC before any funds go to his recount account. Still, the Trump campaign continues to urgently ask for cash

This retired three-star falsely claims US soldiers died attacking a CIA facility in Germany tied to election fraud - Military Times

It is a scenario that makes the antics of animated spy Archer seem plausible by comparison, spun by the former assistant vice chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force.

In his unfounded version of events, U.S. special operations forces died in an attack on a CIA computer facility in Germany that was hiding information about a massive, covert effort to flip votes from President Donald Trump to his opponent, Joe Biden.

But even though big Army and U.S. Army Special Operations Command have told Military Times that there was no such attack, or loss of life, retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney is sticking by his claims. They became so widely distributed on social media that numerous accounts on Twitter falsely claimed that five soldiers killed in a Sinai helicopter crash were really killed in the firefight with the CIA.

Jocelyn Benson: 'Armed protesters' target Michigan official's home | BBC News |

In a statement, Michigan's Attorney General Dana Nessel and Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy described the incident as "disturbing behaviour masquerading as protest".

"Anyone can air legitimate grievances to Secretary Benson's office through civil and democratic means, but terrorising children and families at their own homes is not activism," they said.

    I added my comment:

Great article and analysis Richard. The ethical and moral viewpoints are undisputed. US Congress, politics and Western foreign policy is all about might, wealth and spread of capitalism around the globe as if it was a renewed exploitation of a New World with the sword of christians as cover. See the daily Bible briefings by Rumsfeld and Cheney for president Bush and the seat of religious zealots Trump was hoisted in by extreme evangelicals. The separation of state and religion has been a farce for decades now. See also Poland and extreme right, morals and Catholic hierarchy. Mankind should be deeply ashamed of the suffering by the masses in Third World nations and the inequality here at home. To be social is inherent in Jewish faith and teachings of Jesus. The voices of moderation aren't heard in a new generation of tech giants, AI and robotical warfare destroying lives. Many nations like the Philippines, US, UK, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Iran are based on a culture of death. Same can be said of China and Russia. The federal executions expedited in a lame-duck presidency of Donald Trump reminds me of a Texas Governor and State AG Alberto Gonzales. A culture of gun violence leads to fear, stress and a population easily manipulated by enemies of the state.

There is only hope for US politics when honest people like Bernie Sanders and progressive voices are heard. Your article would do well as a platform for such a democratic movement. Chapeau.

No trust in Biden, his network of advisers nor his (lack of) vision on foreign policy in Middle East of in "confrontation" of world powers.

During the Obama presidency, it was Biden to lead on foreign policy issues!

Joe Lieberman had Obama's ear on the Middle East and the Democrats were led into destructive regime changes in Libya, Syria and the Ukraine.

Russia got booted out of NATO as silent partner due to the failed Rose Revolution in Georgia under leadership of Mikheil Saakashvili.

HRC never accepted her loss in November 2016 and the Democrats in Congress and on "progressive" blogs were tearful and undermined American "democracy" for the next four years. Republicans serving Democrats some of their cake today.

Unfortunately, Joe Biden was the only bet to get rid of Trump ... HE LOST!

Rubbing Out Each and Every Trace of the Trumps ... Disinfecting his Legacy too?

Biden orders 'exorcism' of Trump from White House

President-elect Biden is set to move into the 55,000sq ft mansion after his January 21 inauguration but is insisting that the 132-room property be thoroughly disinfected beforehand.

White House historian Aaron Shikler's portrait of JFK deep in thought is the most patriotic ornament on our tree. U.S. cybersecurity agency warns of "grave" threat from massive hack | CBS News |

"This threat actor has demonstrated sophistication and complex tradecraft in these intrusions," the agency said in an unusual alert. "CISA expects that removing the threat actor from compromised environments will be highly complex and challenging."

The agency previously said that the perpetrators had used network management software from Texas-based SolarWinds to infiltrate computer networks. Its new alert said the attackers may have used other methods as well.

The U.S. has not publicly blamed Russia for the intrusions. SolarWinds said it had been advised that the perpetrator is believed to be an "outside nation state," but has not independently identified those responsible. Current and former U.S. officials have said early evidence points to the Kremlin.

Now you, too, can disable Intel ME 'backdoor' thanks to the NSA

Back in June 2016, hardware hacker Damien Zammit warned, "Recent Intel x86 processors implement a secret, powerful control mechanism that runs on a separate chip that no one is allowed to audit or examine. When these are eventually compromised, they'll expose all affected systems to nearly unkillable, undetectable rootkit attacks."

With more information what I wrote above, while accurate, is not the immediate source of the breaches.

Microsoft president calls SolarWinds hack an "act of recklessness"

SolarWinds is the maker of a nearly ubiquitous network management tool called Orion. A surprisingly large percentage of the world's enterprise networks run it. Hackers backed by a nation state--two US senators who received private briefings say it was Russia--managed to take over SolarWinds' software build system and push a security update infused with a backdoor. SolarWinds said about 18,000 users downloaded the malicious update.

A "build system" is the code and processes by which the code is turned into a functional program.

Re-reading Allen's and Parnes's "Shattered" about the fail train that was the 2016 HRC campaign.  I am inclined to hold to my initial assessment from a couple of years ago: They give her too much credit.  She was not a good but unelectable president; she would have been a bad president, due to character flaws that lie not in her stars but in herself, and due to the win-at-all-costs tactics of the DNC and the sycophantic Hilbots.  HRC's character has been on national display since the beginning of Bilious Bill's presidency when she was charged with leading the gay rights and health care reform campaigns.  She was told in no uncertain terms that there was only enough political capital for one, maybe, but she rejected that advice because she's the smartest person in the room, and if you ever doubt that, just ask her.  Both programs inevitably failed.  That she probably considered herself successful because their failure was probably the real goal of the Clintstone administration is beside the point.  Her methods of promoting and then tanking those programs turned off millions from across the political spectrum and set the stage for Newt Gangrene's Contract on America, where he made himself a political Montresor, putting the last brick in the wall sealing American Democracy in the dungeon (Any noises you have heard during the reigns of Chimpy, Obummer, and Drumpfenfuehrer have been only the screams of the doomed victim.).  She did not improve over the following two decades (There is a reason Barry beat her in 2008, and it ain't Russians.), and by 2016 there were millions of voters who could not take enough Dramamine to stomach her.  She is the sort of lawyer who should not be allowed in a courtroom; the jury will condemn her client simply because they can not condemn her.

The blast emanated from a white RV. A Google Street View photo of the home linked to a person of interest - Anthony Quinn Warner - shows a similar looking vehicle parked outside his property prior to the blast.

Suicide bombing suspected in Nashville explosion

The camper van blast in Nashville on Christmas Day was probably a suicide bombing, law enforcement officials are quoted as saying by US media.

Law enforcement officials looking for motive and what the likely target was.

Camper as "suïcide vest" targeting AT&T telecom exchange for interrupting communications and for what purpose? An act of terror to write oneself in local history book? Did not intent mass casualties for residents, likely intended to cause injury and possible deaths to first responders.

'Downtown' by Petula Clark played from RV before Nashville bomb went off, officer says

Amid the evacuation efforts, Luellen said he heard a song began to play from the RV and recalled some of the lyrics he heard.

"What I remembered was 'Downtown where the lights shined bright,'" Luellen said during the press conference.

Luellen said the ATF agent he spoke to pulled it up and identified it as 'Downtown' by Petula Clark.

Eerie feeling officers would come under a secundary attack by snipers ...

Wells said that once he heard the music coming from the RV, he feared officers were being set up for an ambush and began scanning the tops of buildings and parking garages looking for an active shooter.

"At that moment it felt real and it felt like there was going to be some secondary activity. So every time we came out of a building we made sure that we were looking around and checking high areas, just making sure nobody was peeking around and looking at us," Wells said.

He said that just prior to the blast, he was walking back towards the RV and "I literally hear God tell me to turn around and go check on Topping, who was by herself."

"For me, it felt like I only took three steps and then the music stopped and as I'm walking back towards Topping now, I just see orange than then I hear a loud boom," Wells said.

5 women, girls found dead at Arkansas home in apparent homicide

Pope County Sheriff Shane Jones press conference Saturday ...

The victims, all believed to be related, included three children and two adults ranging in age from 8 to 50 years old.

"It's rare anywhere," Jones said of the case. "We just need to pray for a family that's just been devastated."

Trump the lame-duck president and his wrecking ball of vengeance ⁉️

Trump's wrecking ball of a transition

... to shorten the window, especially after the infamous "Secession Winter" of 1860 left President-elect Abraham Lincoln powerless as several Southern states left the union to form the Confederacy.

The 20th Amendment moved Inauguration Day to January 20 (and set the start date for a new Congress on January 3). If the nation needed one last reminder of why the shift was necessary, they got it after the 1932 election, when President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt was unable to launch the New Deal for months amidst the deteriorating economic crisis of the Great Depression.

It turns out, however, that even two months is no guarantee of a smooth interregnum. President Donald Trump has managed to use his remaining time in office to act as a political wrecking ball while the country is still being ravaged by the Covid-19 pandemic.

    As an aside ...

Fewer than four in 10 Americans voted for Abraham Lincoln in November 1860 -- he wasn't even on the ballot in nine Southern states -- but it was enough to win.  Lincoln carried eighteen of thirty-three states, sweeping Northern population centers, and won 180 of the 303 electoral votes.  His election outraged the South and triggered the Secession Winter.

Reputation Update: Steele Dossier - Ex-spy Not Liable for BuzzFeed Piece On Russian Hacking

As it happened, neither defendant had briefed the media on the contents of the memo concerned, which had been prepared by Christopher Steele, a former MI6 officer, which contained allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election.  Nor had either defendant authorised anyone else to do so.  It only came into BuzzFeed's possession because of the "wrongful conduct" of the journalist, who secretly photographed it when meeting a third party who had been provided with a copy under obligations of confidence.

    ...
Corporate claimants should therefore always keep in mind the question of serious financial loss, or the likelihood thereof, and provide appropriate evidence of the same wherever possible, should it not be self-evident...

It was also noteworthy that it was common ground between the parties that BuzzFeed's publication of the memo was "one of the most irresponsible and reckless actions in the history of modern journalism, representing a profound departure from the most basic journalistic ethics and standards expected of a mainstream media organisation".

Boxer delays presidential vote count with protest / Senator, colleague object to Ohio tally -- Electoral College confirmation held up

Boxer and fellow Democrat Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones of Cleveland, relying on widespread reports of voting problems on Nov. 2, stopped the count of Electoral College votes with a formal objection to the Ohio results. Their protest, which they said wasn't aimed at overturning Bush's victory over Democratic Sen. John Kerry, triggered a debate in the House and Senate on election reform.
