DNC Stacking the Deck Against Bernie Sanders - Again!

Not only Europe raises concern about keeping a level playing field  ... Democracy at stake!

"A Who's-Who" of People Against Progressive Agenda: DNC's Perez Under Fire for Convention Committee Picks | Common Dreams |

Former Congressman Barney Frank, who wrote a 2015 op-ed entitled "Why Progressives Shouldn't Support Bernie," is among those nominated.

Progressives raised alarm this weekend after Democratic National Committee chair Tom Perez released his picks for the 2020 Democratic National Convention committees.

The list of nominees, Sunrise Movement political director Evan Weber said, looks like "a who's-who of people explicitly opposed to the progressive agenda."

Kevin Gosztola, managing editor of Shadowproof, sparked a flurry of responses when he shared Perez's list on social media Saturday afternoon.

No one is assigned to Jewish outreach at the DNC. Who ya gonna call? | Times of Israel - April 2017 |

"From speaking at AIPAC to meeting with the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, Tom has made outreach to the Jewish community a personal priority," he said. "The Jewish community will continue to play a vital role in the Democratic Party, particularly as Jewish community centers and schools are being targeted, and as the Trump administration seeks to divide us."

Jews have long been a key constituency for Democrats, and not just because their donations make up a third to a half of the DNC's support. They are also a key vote in swing states like Florida, Pennsylvania and Ohio, and have proven to be among the most dedicated organizers over the decades.

DNC officials and those close to them outlined various reasons why the party was slow to name a dedicated staffer or officer to deal with the Jews. Among them:

Perez has cleared out much of the DNC staff, wanting to dismantle the perception lingering from the primaries that the committee was a redoubt of the establishment, and to reconcile the camps loyal to candidates Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Hillary Clinton. He is still in the slow grind of hiring replacements.

Through 'severe pressure,' U.S. can impose a two-state solution on Israel -- Nathan Thrall | Mondoweiss - May 2017 |

Nathan Thrall is the author of an important new book, The Only Language They Understand: Forcing Compromise in Israel and Palestine. On May 24, Scott Roth and I interviewed him at the Jerusalem Hotel in occupied Jerusalem. Thrall began by relating a central part of his analysis, "Israel-Palestine, the real reason there's no peace," which lately appeared in the Guardian.

What I tried to argue in that Guardian piece was that it's actually irrational for Israel to go for an agreement right now. Basically they're sitting pretty. They've got quiet in the West Bank, they're playing footsie with the Arab states that had been boycotting them. They've got an occupation that's paid for largely by the U.S. and Europe. They have full security control over the West Bank. They're on the border with Jordan as they want to be.

They're not facing any kind of public demand to change things. The public protests in recent years are over the price of cottage cheese, right? And so you look at that, and you say to yourself, What Israeli prime minister could rationally uproot tens of thousands of settlers, and say--which is a sine qua non-- we're giving up sovereignty over the Temple Mount, the Haram al Sharif when you have consistent polls showing a majority of Israelis are opposed to that- risking probably the greatest upheaval the society has ever faced, the potential assassination of the prime minister, Jew on Jew violence potentially-

To do all of that, for what? What are you going to gain? And what are you going to avoid by not doing it?

Let's take it as a choice that a prime minister is making. A, you do this: upheaval, withdrawing from the West Bank, all of your concerns about what happens security-wise after it takes over. You are losing control. You now control Palestinians completely. Do they go to Jordan? Do they not go to Jordan? Who comes in? Who comes out? You're controlling everything as you want to be. Now you're going to lose all of that and face enormous political opposition at home. That's option one.

U.S. Senate voted overwhelmingly for sanctions to 'wake up' apartheid South Africa | Mondoweiss - Dec. 6, 2013 |

Read this news story from 1986 and imagine if South Africa was a different country, with a different relationship to the U.S. From The New York Times. Pay attention to all the moral stances adopted by senators, and remember that apartheid did not fall for another four years.

The Senate voted today [78-21] to override President Reagan's veto of legislation imposing stiff economic sanctions on South Africa. In doing so it rejected his pleas for support as he prepares to meet Mikhail S. Gorbachev, the Soviet leader, in Iceland..

Senator Richard G. Lugar, the Indiana Republican who heads the Foreign Relations Committee and was the chief sponsor of the measure, appealed in emotional terms to Pretoria to heed the action taken by Congress.

"As a friend of that Government we are saying wake up!" he said.

After the vote, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Democrat of Massachusetts, said: "The Senate's action today expressed the best ideals of the American people. The message to countries all over the world is, the United States will lead, and we're proud to lead."

The sanctions, indeed, go further than those enacted Sept. 16 by the European Community. Those ban new investment and imports of gold coins, iron and steel from South Africa...

Senator Alan Cranston, a California Democrat, summed up this symbolism when he said, "The Senate must decide whether we stand with the oppressed or with the oppressors."

Oh and look at this. Shades of the war on terror, and radical Islam, the clash of civilizations:

Mr. Reagan's supporters ... predicted that by undermining the Pretoria Government, Congress would hasten the triumph of Communist-inspired forces in South Africa.

"The thrust of this legislation," said Senator Jesse Helms, a North Carolina Republican, "is to bring about violent, revolutionary change, and after that, tyranny."

It may be recalled that besides traveling the '08 campaign trail with a Reagan biography, Obama also flaunted foreign policy travels with his tutor Lugar.

I was appalled at the time and am not now surprised by his self-servin measure of a "statesman". Nor another round of calumny produced by DNC Services Corp., d/b/a Democratic National Committee.

Like the RNC, it is a privately-held company.

Segregaters gotta segregate. I don't give a good goddam what name their party goes by.

The House majority intended congress to enact H.R.1 federal law. However, this masterpiece of "pay-to-play" administrative electoral rules did not get out of the House. Similarly, the House majority belatedly "scrambled to rewrite the Voting Rights Act to fulfill campaign promise", six [!] years after the SCOTUS ruled on Shelby (2013), then declined to adjudicate district map disputes within states (2019).

Yesterday, REUTERS explained Why speaking Spanish matters to presidential hopefuls in Iowa
"To help remedy that, the state Democratic Party has agreed to at least five Spanish-language satellite caucus sites on Monday."

Today, AP Explains New rules could muddle results of Iowa caucuses.
"For the first time, the Iowa Democratic Party will report three sets of results. There is no guarantee that all three will show the same winner. ...The new rules for Monday's contest were mandated by the Democratic National Committee in a bid to make the process more transparent."

DNC is so tangled in rigging, they can't see straight. One can only hope that voters across the nation become more vigilant and selective with their choices of candidates, UP and DOWN the ballot.

28 Jan, Des Moines Register: Joe Biden to Iowa Democrats: Ruin Joni Ernst's night by caucusing for me
The same organization that unexpectedly cancelled polling results.

"By the way, did anyone see what your senator, Joni Ernst, did yesterday? She spilled the beans," [Biden] said at a campaign stop in Muscatine on Tuesday [28 Jan] morning. "She just came out and flat said it. You know, the whole impeachment trial for Trump is just a political hit job to try to smear me, because he is scared to death to run against me and he has good reason to be concerned." Then he read out loud the comments Ernst made to reporters in Washington, D.C. Monday [27 Jan].

If the president asks for an investigation of possible corruption by a political rival under circumstances that objectively are in the national interest, should the president be impeached if a majority of the House believes the president is in it for the wrong reason?
