CIA-Man Saakashvili -- Soap Opera Extension

by Oui Thu Apr 23rd, 2020 at 09:04:58 AM EST

For some American entertainment during the woes of the coronavirus, a move by Pentagon hardliners to consolidate colonial power in Ukraine. After the coup-d'état of February 2014, the country continued to be rive with corruption. Too many millions disappeared in deep pockets of the oligarchs who adapted to the new Western masters.

After a stint as governor in Odessa under presidency of buddy Poroshenko, Saakashvili soon quit due to corruption he couldn't quite handle as a foreigner. His instant citizenship was just as easily removed instantly and Saakashvili sought and received refugee status in The Netherlands of Mark Rutte ... wink, wink!!

Zelensky who won the last fictional election for presidency in the Ukraine, found the door shut to the White House. The spring doldrums of Trump's lawyer Giuliani brought plenty of entertainment in U.S. Congress. The Democrats were easily defeated by a united front of red-hot Republicans. As the Impeachment Act ended in the Senate in January 2020, the invaders from China were well established across many states. As Trump so colorfully stated, he was caught off guard by this invisible enemy sent from Wuhan.

Sometimes God's creation moves in mysterious ways human kind just don't grasp. Although prophesized by virologists over a decade ago, science has no entry in the Republican led White House.

More below the fold ...

Zelensky Offers Georgian Ex-president Saakashvili Deputy PM Seat | Georgia Today |

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has offered former Georgian leader Mikheil Saakashvili the seat of deputy prime minister in charge of reforms, says the report by the Novoe Vremya news website citing sources in Zelensky's party.

The above information was confirmed by the Spokesperson for the President's Office.

The proposal is currently being discussed.

Mikheil Saakashvili responded to the issue on his Facebook page.

"I am honored to receive President Zelensky's proposal to become Deputy Prime Minister in charge of reforms," he wrote in a Facebook post.

"I had a very informative and useful conversation with Prime Minister Shmyhal, during which we discussed all the issues related to my possible work in the government.

"Together with the President's team, I am ready to work with all patriotic forces in the Ukrainian Parliament and other political forces to enable Ukraine to overcome today's global economic crisis with the least loss and to deal with all challenges. I hope to be a reliable member of the team and help the Ukrainian people by doing something useful for them. I also hope that I will use my international experience to be the government's useful member, including in terms of communicating with international financial organizations to strengthen Ukraine's prestige and its integration into the international community, in order to primarily protect the Ukrainian national interests and contribute to the progress in the country", he wrote.

United States, Britain Link Russian GRU Unit to Sandworm | ASIS - Feb. 20, 2020 |

For the first time, the United States linked a Russian military unit to the hacking group known as Sandworm which is said to be responsible for some of the most significant cyberattacks around the globe over the past 10 years.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo released a statement saying Russia's General Staff Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) Main Center for Special Technologies, also known as GTsST, Unit 74455, and Sandworm, carried out a cyberattack against the country of Georgia on 28 October 2019.

"The incident, which directly affected the Georgian population, disrupted operations of several thousand Georgian government and privately-run websites and interrupted the broadcast of at least two major television stations," Pompeo said. "This action contradicts Russia's attempts to claim it is a responsible actor in cyberspace and demonstrates a continuing pattern of reckless Russian GRU cyber operations against a number of countries. These operations aim to sow division, create insecurity, and undermine democratic institutions."

Other nations also joined the United States in attributing the attacks on Georgia to Russia, including the United Kingdom.

"The GRU's reckless and brazen campaign of cyberattacks against Georgia, a sovereign and independent nation, is totally unacceptable," said U.K. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab in a statement. "The Russian government has a clear choice: continue this aggressive pattern of behavior against other countries, or become a responsible partner which respects international law."

A promising work in progress here, but is it not really two diaries, a history of Saakashvili and the urban/rural blue/red politics of Covid-19?

BTW I had some letters published on Saakashvili in the Irish Times and Irish Independent which you can see in this diary.

My time in the States was spend in an historic French settler village named Creve Coeur ... an Indian legend ... near the confluence of the Missouri and mighty Mississippi rivers. I'll see if I can travel upstream a bit. 😊🍀

Indeed still work in progress  ... I had to run  ... it's about power and the White House under Trump.

Some nice stuff you wrote Frank!

Getting Cranky with The Times

Needless to say, The Irish Times edited out my explicit reference to The European Tribune in the last paragraph of the above letter.  Are they really afraid of competition from The European Tribune?

How the US targeted former Soviet Republics to become part of NATO and angered the Russian Bear which led the US naming Russia as their number One enemy. Today China has the honor of becoming the #1 enemy of the ruling party or parties in Washington DC, Pentagon and NATO HQ in Brussels.

The former Georgian president had been sounded out for the post of deputy prime minister in April, but that move petered out after he held talks with lawmakers in Zelenskiy's party who would have needed to confirm his appointment.

Bush as poster child of Saakashvili in Tsiblisi, Georgia

Georgia is a "beacon of liberty for the region and the world", US President George W Bush has told a cheering crowd in the former Soviet republic. Georgia's peaceful Rose Revolution set an example for others, including Ukraine, Iraq and Lebanon, he said.

Mr Bush spoke in Tbilisi's Freedom Square - the place where Georgians celebrated ousting the old regime. His trip to Georgia, the first by a US leader, gave new support to Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili.

Is it because Russia, after telling us what would be considered a casus belli by them, actually acted on such announcements, called Saakashvili's bluff and responded with overwhelming force, kicking his ass, and by proxy, that of his gung-ho advisors in the WSJ and other neocon nests?

We don't have to approve Russia's policies to note that it has been consistent and unsurprising for anyone who bothered to listen to them (something neocons don't seem to do, except to find proofs of hostility to justify their own macho posturing).
