Big 3: Negotiations, Procurement, Standards

First the easy stuff ... chlorinated chicken, chloroquine treatment, NHS on offer ...

[Update-1]

END OF UPDATE

Now the difficult part in a wartime effort for our frontlines in hospitals and nursing home: Coronavirus PPE Procurement!

More below the fold ...

Devastating mortality due to lacking PPE supplies for frontline NHS doctors and nurses ... and care homes.

Britain thanks NATO ally Turkey for coronavirus support | Hürriyet Daily News |

Britain once again thanked Turkey on April 15 for sending medical equipment for the fight against the coronavirus outbreak.

In a statement, Defense Minister Ben Wallace "expressed gratitude" for Turkey's delivery last week of 250,000 items of personal protective equipment (PPE), including 50,000 N95 face masks, 100,000 surgical masks, and 100,000
protective suits.

Wallace's message came following NATO defense ministers meeting via videoconferencing today to discuss how the alliance would continue to "protect its almost one billion citizens, as it has done for over 70 years, during the
COVID-19 crisis."

Wallace "reaffirmed the U.K.'s support for NATO's role in the international response to the crisis and committed to examining all requests for assistance from Allies," a ministry statement said.

"NATO can play a key role in the international fight against COVID-19, and Allied solidarity is more important than ever to ensure both the security and the health of our almost one billion citizens," Wallace said.

About that special flight with belated PPE supplies from Turkey ...

Well, not all late procurement is mismanaged ... is it?

China said that it had exported around four billion masks, 16,000 ventilators, 37.5 million pieces of protective clothing, and 2.84 million coronavirus testing kits to more than 50 countries since March 1.

Black Country manufacturers to the rescue as hospitals sent faulty ventilators

Hospitals in the Black Country have been sent the wrong sort of ventilators for use with critically ill coronavirus patients.

More than 250 ventilators were dispatched to hospitals in the West Midlands last weekend to help with the region's fight against Covid-19.

But an undisclosed number of machines that were sent to Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital and Sandwell General Hospital were "not in immediate working order", a source told the Express & Star.

The ventilators are believed to have been manufactured in China and did not have the correct connections for use in British hospitals.

It is understood that the problem was not identified until hospital staff were preparing the machines for use with sick patients on wards.

Social media always present to spread the GOOD news ...

Across the Big Pond, Trump is hastily searching where to put the blame next ... he has no patience or time for futilities. If you criticize, you'll be damned!

Trump's New Message: Time to Move On to the Recovery

Confronted with America's worst public health disaster in generations, President Trump declared himself a wartime president. The attack by the "China" coronavirus was worse than Pearl Harbor or the World Trade Center attacks. For the month of June, dire predictions show up to 3,000 deaths daily!! Unimagineable loss of life in peacetime. Now he has begun doing what previous commanders have executed when a warfare goes badly: Declare victory and go dwelling.

However Mr. Trump's cure-can't-be-worse-than-the-disease logic is obvious: As unhealthy as the virus could also be, the value of the digital nationwide lockdown has grown too excessive.

Trump: "Did I mention the fantastic job my very intelligent son-in-law has performed with a group of volunteers?"

"did not have the correct connections for use": adapters not included. That's new.

Meanwhile in US, free trade will have its day until the federales investigate allegations of frauds and profiteering a/k/a "unconscionable pricing". The police blotter of market solutions--from PPE to "congregate facility" inspection control--runneth over. US Congress OVERSIGHT! committees gonna need OVERSIGHT! committees.

Who doesn't love BRAND NAME, customizable disease?
it is now joining asthma and COPD on the list of chronic lung diseases.

FYI: Two weeks ago I was recruited by some division of JHopkins, the title of which I promptly forgot, to participate in a "COVID-related" behavioral study. Yes, my participation was pre-qualified by JK medical history record (MS). The study design is weekly self-reported HH (non) case contacts and "self-isolation" modification, if any. Sure, sez I. Why not? In the past year I've discarded sillier pseudo-psych study solicitations, marketed by the US Multiple Sclerosis Society.

COME TO FIND OUT, medication screening is the most elaborate, detailed portion of the study. Lemme share but one set of researchers' assumptions revealed by survey contents --so-called immunomodulating drugs "mostly used to treat MS", according to wikiwtf. I wouldn't know. I didn't even test whether the app permitted multiple responses. I am the control, I might have mentioned more than once.

How the US targeted former Soviet Republics to become part of NATO and angered the Russian Bear which led the US naming Russia as their number One enemy. Today China has the honor of becoming the #1 enemy of the ruling party or parties in Washington DC, Pentagon and NATO HQ in Brussels.

The former Georgian president had been sounded out for the post of deputy prime minister in April, but that move petered out after he held talks with lawmakers in Zelenskiy's party who would have needed to confirm his appointment.

Bush as poster child of Saakashvili in Tsiblisi, Georgia

Georgia is a "beacon of liberty for the region and the world", US President George W Bush has told a cheering crowd in the former Soviet republic. Georgia's peaceful Rose Revolution set an example for others, including Ukraine, Iraq and Lebanon, he said.

Mr Bush spoke in Tbilisi's Freedom Square - the place where Georgians celebrated ousting the old regime. His trip to Georgia, the first by a US leader, gave new support to Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili.

The warmongers have lost yet another war by Jerome a Paris on Aug 11th, 2008

Is it because Russia, after telling us what would be considered a casus belli by them, actually acted on such announcements, called Saakashvili's bluff and responded with overwhelming force, kicking his ass, and by proxy, that of his gung-ho advisors in the WSJ and other neocon nests?

We don't have to approve Russia's policies to note that it has been consistent and unsurprising for anyone who bothered to listen to them (something neocons don't seem to do, except to find proofs of hostility to justify their own macho posturing).

Coronavirus: doctors call for inquiry into PPE shortages for NHS staff | The Guardian |

Doctors are taking legal action to force the UK government to launch an independent inquiry into its failure to provide adequate personal protective equipment for NHS staff and other frontline care workers.

News of the challenge, brought by the Doctors Association UK (DAUK) and the Good Law project, comes as the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said it was withdrawing a model of protective goggles - "Tiger Eye" protectors - from use because they offered insufficient protection.

A pre-action letter sent to the DHSC says an immediate independent inquiry is essential to ensure sufficient PPE can be made available as soon as possible and to ensure healthcare workers are properly equipped for any second or third wave of Covid-19.

A spokesperson for the Doctors' Association UK said: "It is a tragedy that nearly 200 healthcare workers in the UK have died due to Covid-19. We had a pandemic stockpile of PPE lacking essential items like full gowns and eye protection; other equipment was out of date. There has been recurrent and systemic failure of the PPE supply chain, leaving staff in some instances with makeshift or no PPE ...

Several of those people who died, including Dr Peter Tun, who worked at Royal Berkshire hospital and Dr Abdul Mabud Chowdhury, who worked at Homerton hospital in Hackney, east London, had previously warned about the risks posed by a lack of PPE.
