Dutch Cabinet Shuns Motions of Parliament

The cabinet's response today was downright embarrassing. There has been months of delay, and responsibility is always shifted. At the moment many who have worked for NL can no longer reach the airport. A drama and a disgrace for the Netherlands.

Oops ... Where Is the Dutch Ambassador?

Apparently in safe hands in her home country ... send back into Kabul with a new team for handling emergency visa's and passports. Documents are essential to have a chance to pass the Taliban security checkpoints ... what an ugly mess ...

The new embassy team just arrived in #Kabul to complete the evacuation process #Afghanistan to further guide and support. This team consists of ambassador Caecilia Wijgers, a consular emergency team and 62 military personnel. The team they replaced is now back in the Netherlands. 😡💥

Tough to catch up and assist to evacuate Afghans the Dutch are indebted to for their loyalty and work to perform ISAF tasks.

How was this possible? The Dutch embassy staff left w/o any notification to Afghan employees … in a stealth escape as thieves in the night. The employees returned to an vacated embassy building … they were left stranded. Netherlands 🇳🇱 🦁

Netherlands not on their radar ...

Plane on Monday could not land due to chaos on tarmac. Tuesday's plane was able to land, but no Dutch people or people with a Dutch visa made it on board. Afghan people who wanted to get on the plane, were stopped by American soldiers, NOS and RTL Nieuws report.

American soldiers are not allowing Afghan people access to the airport at this stage, which means that interpreters and their families, whom the Netherlands are trying to evacuate, cannot get to the planes. Dutch people also had trouble getting to and into the airport.

Minister Sigrid Kaag of Foreign Affairs called the failed evacuation "terrible", telling RTL Nieuws that there was too little time and that American soldiers would not let Afghan people enter the airport. "A lot of people were there with their families, with children. They were standing there at the gates of the airport. I think it's terrible," Kaag said. She is in consultation with the Americans to try and prevent this from happening again, she said. She will also discuss the matter with her German counterpart Heiko Maas.
