Denmark: Solidarity and Trust to Beat the Pandemic

Lockdowns, lethality, and laissez-faire politics. Public discourses on political authorities in high-trust countries during the COVID-19 pandemic | Research - June 23, 2021 |

This study looks at population response to government containment strategies during initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic in four high-trust Northern European countries-Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden-with special emphasis on expressions of governmental trust. Sentiment analysis and topic modeling analysis were performed using Twitter data from three phases during the initial European lockdown, and results were compared over time and between countries. Findings show that, in line with existing theory, assertive crisis responses and proactive communication were generally well-received, whereas tentative crisis responses or indications by the authorities that the crisis was manageable were generally met with suspicion.

On March 11th, 2020, COVID-19 was declared a pandemic by the WHO. Due to the unfamiliarity of the situation, the four Northern European countries Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden, despite being culturally and sociostructurally similar, were seen implementing highly divergent strategies.

The Danish strategy was by far the most assertive strategy of the four: it introduced a total lockdown only a day after the WHO classified Covid-19 as a pandemic (March 12th). The goal of the containment strategy was to limit the spread until the development of a vaccine or more effective treatment options than were available at the time. During the lockdown, the government enjoyed support both from a nigh united parliament and from the population at large. Overall, Denmark managed to contain the virus throughout with intensive care units running below capacity throughout.

The Dutch government initially dubbed the Dutch strategy "intelligent lockdown", aiming to flatten the curve of infection, while at the same time allowing for herd immunity to take hold. In concrete terms, this mean that the Netherlands introduced outbreak containment measures in several steps and only when deemed necessary. Between March 15th and March 23rd, the Dutch strategy became stricter, changing from a model akin to the Swedish model to becoming more similar to the strategies of Denmark and Germany. Nevertheless, the Netherlands had a high ratio of infected citizens and at one point had to send COVID-19 patients to Germany for treatment due to insufficient intensive care equipment.

As I had written, PM Mark Rutte had an identical liberal philosophy as good allies Boris Johnson and Donald Trump ... speeches were quite similar to Downing Street 10 as was the timeline. In The Netherlands the rise in hospital patients increased dramatically and the black scenario was in place of leaving elderly persons to die at home while not counting these as COVID-19 deaths.

TikTok Star Megan Alexandra Blankenbiller Begs Others to Get Vaccinated Before Dying of COVID in Hospital

In a later TikTok, Alexandra revealed that her hospital experience has been frightening. "I've been here since for early Friday morning," she said. "All I've been hearing are the moans and screams of people in pain. People, I'm assuming, that have lost people that they love because I know what that's like personally and what that sounds like."

"It's no secret this is something that should be taken seriously," Blankenbiller's sister, Cristina Blankenbiller, told WebMD. "But there's so much misinformation out there."

Cristina shared that she, Alexandra, their mother, and their sister made appointments to get vaccinated, but they all came down with COVID-19 before their shots. "Her final video really showed a lot of who she was," sister Rachel Blankenbiller said. "She was selfless--the type of person who used her final days to help others."

Unfortunately, her case is not unique. According to CDC data, Florida is seeing its deadliest surge of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Only 54% of the state population was fully vaccinated as of Sept. 3.

so yeah, I used to run an archival YouTube clip for the California Cohort of Petty Landlords, whenever nefarious Nader fallacy erupted in the trade war threads. Somehow the title survived innerboob "curation": "Milton Friedman - Morality & Capitalism". I was idly concerned that is my own transcription was the only reference still standing in the ruins.
Q: ...This has to do with the Ford pinto. Ford produced it knowing full well that in any rear end collision gas tank would blow up, because they had failed to install a thirteen dollar plastic block in front of the gas tank. And Ford estimated in an internal memo that would cost about 200 lives a year. They estimated further that the cost the cost of each life would be two hundred thousand dollars. They multiplied and found that the cost of installing those blocks in each of the cars would be more than the cost of saving those two hundred lives. And over the past seven years, the car has been produced, and one thousand lives have been lost. It seems to me that Ford did what would be the right thing according to your policy. And yet that seems to me to be very wrong.
FRIEDMAN: Well, let me ask you: supposed it would have cost a billion dollars per person. Should Ford have put a billion on the line?
Q: [cross talk]
FRIEDMAN: You're only arguing about price.... You're not arguing about principle. You're...
Q: no, no, no. ...
FRIEDMAN: Because nobody can take the principle, nobody can accept the principle, that an infinite value should be put an individual life, because in order to get the money involved--the resources involved-- It's not money. They have to come from somewhere, and you want the policy which maximizes the situation over all. You cannot accept the situation that a million people should starve in order to provide one person with a car that is completely safe.
Q: That's absolutely right. I do not accept the situation that a million people should starve to provide one person with a car that is completely safe. I asked, whether the decision not to install a $13.00 piece of equipment that prevents loss of life and Ford loss of profit was wrong
FRIEDMAN: Therefore, You've just arguing anything about princicple. You're just arguing ... you're just asking, whether Ford using two hundred thousand dollars was the right number or not.
Q:I'm not arguing that.
FRIEDMAN: Supposedly two hundred million dollars.
Q: No, no.

These are your people. Translate.

Easy answer. "A billion dollars, No. Thirteen dollars, Yes."  Put a price on human life? We do it every day. I'm saying that proce is more than $13

Want to see some hysterical horror?

Things can turn quite deadly for the evangelical cultists.

The newest contortion is to blame "the organized left" for putting them in the terrible position of either dying or to be "cucks" for choosing the vaccine like the dastardly liberals?! Of course the Breitbart columnist was slagged off by the anti-vax Trumpists in the comments as a sellout.

Judge gives 12-year-old permission for corona vaccine, despite father's opposition

A 12-year-old can be vaccinated as soon as possible by court order of a judge, despite the objections of his father. The judge ruled this week that the best interests of the child outweigh "the unfounded concerns about long-term risks" argued by his father.

Simone Gold, MD, JD, founder of the notorious pro-hydroxychloroquine, anti-vaccine group America's Frontline Doctors, was arrested ...

The day before she entered the Capitol with the throngs of insurrectionists, Dr. Simone Gold gave a speech in which she urged people not to get the coronavirus vaccine. "You must not comply if you do not want to take an experimental biological agent deceptively named a vaccine; you must not allow yourself to be coerced," Gold shouted at a rally held outside the White House.

'Willful ignorance': doctor who joined Capitol attack condemned for Covid falsehoods | The Guardian - Jan. 22, 2021 |

A key conservative doctors' group pushing misinformation about Covid-19 vaccines faces growing fire from medical experts about its woeful scientific grounding, while its leader, Dr Simone Gold, was charged early this week for taking part in the 6 January attack on the Capitol.

The development comes as the US faces warnings its pandemic death toll could hit 500,000 next month, in part because conspiracy theories and baseless skepticism - especially from rightwing groups - have hampered efforts to tackle it.

Gold, who founded America's Frontline Doctors last spring with help from the Tea Party Patriots organization, was arrested on Monday in Beverly Hills, where she lives, and faces charges of entering a restricted building, violent entry and disorderly conduct.

Prior to her arrest, a headshot of Gold holding a bullhorn that she used to give a talk inside the Capitol appeared on an FBI flyer headlined "Seeking Information" about suspects in the Capitol attack. The group's communications director, John Strand, who writes for the conservative Epoch Times and was with Gold in the Capitol, was also arrested in Beverly Hills and faces similar charges.

Doctor, Lawyer, Insurrectionist: The Radicalization of Simone Gold | Mother Jones - May 6, 2021 |

When rioters broke into the US Capitol on January 6, chants of "Fuck the police!" "USA!" or "Treason!" echoed in the marble halls. When Dr. Simone Gold got inside the rotunda, she stepped over a velvet rope and announced to anyone who would listen, "I am a Stanford-educated attorney!"

Thus she distinguished herself among the motley crew of Proud Boys, MAGA types, and the QAnon shaman who paraded through the Capitol to overturn the 2020 presidential election, an event that left five people dead.

Not only is Gold a Stanford-educated lawyer, she's also a board-certified emergency room physician. Neither qualification prevented the FBI from coming to her Beverly Hills house on January 18 and arresting her. Nor did it make a federal grand jury think twice in early February before indicting her on five criminal counts, including entering a restricted building and obstructing an official proceeding.

Pfizer Won the Vaccine Race. Was There a Downside? - The Atlantic
Back in 2019, Moderna published data from a Phase 1 trial of two mRNA-based bird-flu vaccines: The results had looked solid in the first month or two, but antibody levels dropped back toward baseline by month six. The two doses of those vaccines had been spaced just three weeks apart, which may have limited the body's immune memory.

Durability of immune responses to the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine | bioRxiv

Here, we analyzed antibody responses to the homologous Wu strain as well as several variants of concern, including the emerging Mu (B.1.621) variant, and T cell responses in a subset of these volunteers at six months (day 210 post-primary vaccination) after the second dose. Our data demonstrate a substantial waning of antibody responses and T cell immunity to SARS-CoV-2 and its variants, at 6 months following the second immunization with the BNT162b2 vaccine. Notably, a significant proportion of vaccinees have neutralizing titers below the detection limit, and suggest a 3rd booster immunization might be warranted to enhance the antibody titers and T cell responses.
