A COVID Autumn, season 2.

Netflix announces final, final, truly final season of "Lucifer". This is the only Bruckheimer production I've ever enjoyed. The script and ensemble had a good run and delivered plenty of yucks. After this weekend's binge, I will promptly cancel my subscription.

The French version was non-nuclear powered (at Australia's request).

Also that was 90 billion Australian dollars (about € 50 billion), not USD.

So can you get 40 billion $ in change then?

Jury convicts R. Kelly on sex-trafficking charges
The conviction on all counts could mean life in prison for Kelly, who is scheduled to be sentenced next May.

In the top count -- Kelly was charged with 14 acts violating federal anti-racketeering law -- jurors found that the government proved all except for two kidnapping and Mann Act allegations pertaining to a woman who testified as Sonja that Kelly had sexually assaulted her in 2003 while she was drugged and unconscious. Kelly, whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was also charged and convicted of all eight counts against him under the Mann Act.

You all probably know that the concept comes from Venice. But what I just learnt today, at the exhibition on Venice's 1600 year anniversary at the Palazzo Ducale, was that the traders objected to the restrictions and quarantine was lifted on two separate occasions.

Both times, capitalism won. And about a quarter of the population died.

My comment was based on the captions on the wall. I've just read the catalogue: The traders turned to compliant physicians at the University of Padua, who ruled that the cases of plague were not plague (just a bad flu?). When it turned out that they were wrong, the authorities did respond with a proper lockdown.

I once saw a German border control guard with a Che Guevara tag on his jacket. Nobody seemed to be bothered by his lack of patriotism by not having a German on it (Ulrike Meinhof, for example).

East-German border guard?

From the Red Woodstock Festival of 1973 in East-Berlin (GDR) with Special guests representing the US delegation Angela Davis and Yasser Arafat for the Palestinian envoy.

Creating his own makeshift stage on Alexanderpaltz, Wolf Biermann played a rendition of "Comandante Che Guevara," in which he paid homage to Che, with a red star on the breast of his jacket and a cigar resting on his lips, as an icon of revolutionary socialism.

...
Biermann used the political song to launch a leftist critique of the East German state in the very language of international solidarity that the state was espousing.

Ulrike Meinhoff was a German domestic terrorist leading the Rote Armee Fraktion (RAF), likely funded by the Stasi of GDR and Libya's Gaddafi. The Mossad infiltrated the group and used its underground network to assassinate the Palestinians responsible for the Munich 1972 massacre. Israel's Operation Wrath of God.

Meinhoff was never considered a revolutionary.

China's social credit system.

by Bernard on Sun Oct 24th, 2021 at 08:42:00 PM EST
Wading through the hysteria in Western media brought me to:

What is China's social credit system and why is it controversial?

Frankly I don't see any difference from bog standard business and government practices in the West.  And the fears of AI upfuckedness are just as bad in the West plus with added racism.

More often than not it's just projection.

It's more than just projection in the US.  There's a group conducting a propaganda campaign in an attempt to start a Cold War with China, or Russia, or both.  With the historically embedded racism in US culture the anti-China campaign seems, to me, to be getting more traction.
