Operation Enduring Freedom Has Ended 2001-2021

20 Years Military Operation Shock and Awe has Sizzled Out - Cost of US Wealth expressed in $$ trillions (military technology, arms investment and bribes) and loss of American diplomatic prestige overseas.

"You are either with us, or with the terrorists."

As the United States prepares for the 20 Year  Commemoration of the 9/11 Attacks on America ...

President Bush has been talking to world leaders since last Tuesday, when terrorists flew hijacked planes into the World Trade Center and Pentagon, killing thousands.

Britain's Prime Minister Tony Blair met with the President just prior to the speech and accompanied him to Capitol Hill. "We stand side by side with you now, without hesitation. This is a struggle that concerns us all, the whole of the democratic and civilized and free world," he said.

Prime Minister Blair sat to the right of First Lady Laura Bush during the address. To her left was New York Mayor Rudy Guiliani.

The House chamber, which is always used for joint meetings, was packed for the event. Mr. Bush's only other speech to the legislature was back on February 28, when the bitterness of last year's presidential election dispute filled the hall. The atmosphere this time was very different. There was unity, sorrow and determination. "Great harm has been done to us. We have suffered great loss. And in our grief and anger we have found our mission and our moment," he said.

Throughout the speech there was a vivid reminder of how much has changed in America since last Tuesday. Vice-President Dick Cheney was not in the chamber for the address. Historians say it is the first time security concerns have kept a Vice-President of the United States from participating in a joint session of Congress.

Why does everyone seem to date it from 2001? Didn't it start when the Soviet Union invaded to protect womens' rights, and Reagan (and maybe Carter) supported the jihadis?

President Lindsey Graham would reinvade Afghanistan | Dawn News |

On Tuesday, the Taliban announced an interim government dominated by the group's old guard, with no women included. Mohammad Hasan Akhund, a close aide to the group's late founder Mullah Omar, heads the new government, which does not reflect the inclusivity that Washington desires.

Hours before the announcement, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham suggested the US would reinvade Afghanistan if the Taliban allowed militants to regrow their roots in a country that was reportedly used for planning attacks on US soil in September 2001.

"The Taliban are not reformed, they are not new, ... most importantly, they're going to give safe haven to Al Qaeda, who have ambitions to drive us out of the Mideast writ large and attack us because of our way of life," Senator Graham said.

"We will be going back into Afghanistan as we went back into Iraq and Syria."
The interviewer, Stephen Sackur, interrupted him and asked: "You seriously think the United States will once again, in the foreseeable future, put troops back into Afghanistan?"

Senator Graham replied: "We'll have to. We'll have to. Because the threat will be so large ... It will be a cauldron for radical Islamic behaviour."

An Atlantik Wall on the Eastern US border will not suffice? Geez ... bad, very bad!

Just like Saudi Arabia.  When does the US invade them? On the other hand, majority-Muslim Albania now has a cabinet with 12 female minsters out of 16. Maybe they should invade the US....

Israel bolstering legal team ahead of UN Gaza probe | ToI - June 2014 |

A jittery Israeli military is gearing up for what could become its next big battle: dealing with UN investigations that could result in war-crimes allegations.

The army has beefed up its legal staff, is conducting internal investigations of its wartime actions and has prepared a detailed PR campaign of satellite photos and video clips -- hoping to persuade the world that its war against Hamas was justified.

"We take our business seriously, and as such we operate within the rules and regulations under the laws of war," said Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, a military spokesman.

More than 2,100 Palestinians were killed in the 50 days of fighting, most of them civilians, according to UN and Palestinian estimates in the Gaza War.

"Afghanistan is an earthquake, a shattering, shattering earthquake, and this is going to stay with us for a very, very long time," the official said on Monday. He added that the episode marked a complete break with the outdated Carter doctrine - a commitment that an oil-dependent US would use military force to defend its interests in the Gulf.

"Can we really depend on an American security umbrella for the next 20 years? I think this is very problematic right now - really very problematic."

He suggested that 20 years of warfare, supposed to be "a battle against those who had hijacked Islam", had left no legacy in Afghanistan, and predicted that the Taliban's seizure of power would prompt concern among leaders in West Africa and the Sahel about the rise of a newly confident Islamic extremism.

The Baghdad Pact to thwart Communist expansion has been busted by CIA arms and funding of Jihadists and Islamic terror groups.

Missing Inclusivity | Dawn News |

Along with the above-mentioned incidents, the make-up of the interim Taliban government -- announced earlier this week -- is anything but inclusive. The all-male line-up consists of the Taliban old guard, as well as members of the movement's inner circle. There appear to be no members of the Tajik, Uzbek and Hazara communities in the interim set-up. Therefore, all things considered, the Taliban's promises of inclusivity appear to be ringing hollow. The hard-line group's honeymoon period in power is closing fast, and if a broad-based government is not formed soon, Afghanistan may well collapse into civil war.

Why Milley checked nuclear procedures, called China in final days of Trump presidency

From my writing earlier this year ...

The Trump - Kushner - Pompeo wrecking ball failed to level the Islamic Republic of Iran. Netanyahu has spent six years to send the UN JCPOA nuclear treaty to the waste bin of history. Trump losing the historic election was unable to push the button. Trump's dilemma was between his personal LOSS, need to stay in power on the home front, and clear the decks in order to sabotage the uneventful new presidency of "sleepy Joe". Trump failed on all fronts, except he's doing well splitting the Republic party in two from Mar-y-Lago.

Trump had to get rid of close allies who refused to play along with the president's end game. He ousted Pentagon military leadership, DHS officials and DOJ who refused to throw the election his way. Pompeo stayed on his post as a true Trump believer to do the unheard damage to the State Department instead of accepting election defeat of his boss and take part in a smooth transition.

In my analysis from afar, just as in 2012 with the Obama veto, this time it was just chance that the US and/or Israel didn't attack the Islamic Republic of Iran. The coming months will see the security leaks and be witness how near disaster Trump took America.

The Capitol Riot failed president Trump in blocking US Congress accepting the Electoral College votes. Its failure may have prevented an attack on Iran also. Pelosi alert about the nuclear football wasn't without reason. The Republican party has become treacherous to America, the Constitution and Democracy.

Milley stands by communications with China amid backlash sparked by new book revelations | CBS News |

Colonel Dave Butler, a spokesman to Milley, said in a statement to reporters the calls are part of his regular communications with defense chiefs worldwide, including China and Russia, and are crucial to reducing tensions between nations, as well as "avoiding unintended consequences or conflict."

"His calls with the Chinese and others in October and January were in keeping with these duties and responsibilities conveying reassurance in order to maintain strategic stability," Butler said in a written statement. "All calls from the chairman to his counterparts, including those reported, are staffed, coordinated and communicated with the Department of Defense and the interagency."

EU lawmakers call for Lebanon sanctions if new government fails

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell told the European Parliament that, while Lebanon's economic model was broken, the moment for sanctions had passed because politicians formed a government on Sept. 10.

Taking note of Lebanon's formation of a government after more than a year of political deadlock, the European Parliament in Strasbourg issued a resolution saying EU governments cannot yet release pressure on the country.

The parliament voted 575 in favour, 71 against and with 39 abstentions.
