Article in The Guardian today seems as a likely option of Putin's intent. Getting rid of the fascist elements now dominating the pro-EU Kyiv government. As has been clear, Ukraine is run by corrupt oligarchs with some pro-EU and some pro-Russia. The intelligence unit SBU has the lead in corrupt matters, this is not what democracy should look look like. The election of pro-Russian Yanukovych was as democratic compared to earlier elections. After the Colour Revolution of the Maidan, the nation has been divided as never before with the unrest in Donbas and Odessa.

Most agreements for diplomacy such as the Minsk and Normandy format have not been complied with. NATO has thrown out former agreements with Russia and has thrown out the last representatives at the HQ in Brussels.
Russia says it has notified its partners under the 1992 Open Skies arms control treaty that it will leave the group in December, following the departure from the accord by the United States late last year.
"Russia has notified all the member states about its decision to withdraw from the Open Skies Treaty six months after sending a notice. Therefore, this will occur on December 18, 2021," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on June 18.
Positions have only hardened since 2004. The new Cold War was a choice of Western powers, not Russia. With the new mission of NATO across the globe after 9/11, de defense goal has changed dramatically. With the Article 5 mission in Afghanistan 🇦🇫 that all changed for the worse. After the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq in March 2003 came the support and initiative by the UK, France and Italy for military force for a Coup d'Etat in Tripoli to overthrow the Gaddafi regime. A colour revolution ending in military conflict and chaos ten years later. Immediately, the US, Arab States and Turkey continued the same blue print to overthrow Assad. The Syria campaign was an joint US-Israel fantasy of the Neocons from before 9/11. In Syria NATO too was involved as both the UK and France had historic ties. This quagmire and drama has not ended and has long lasting effect on the Syrian population, the neighboring countries and has accelerated xenophobia and Islamophobia in most European nations.
The clash of civilizations was fictional and has become a plan effected by rightwing parties and government as a route map to destroy society as we knew it. The weapons industry has taken priority of our lives in a fight fir survival if the climate crisis. Today all foreign policy has mutated in its previous mission of some solidarity and recognition of human rights. Third world country aid has been cut back and replaced by the 2.5 fee to NATO for our "protection". What a scam this is.
The ill-conceived R2P policy by the United Nations after the Yugoslavia split-up has been a recipe for disaster. The evil powers in the world has taken advantage of it and given nothing in return. Yemen is a human disaster and as is the African continent, still getting robbed of its minerals, precious metals by men and corporations getting away with murder. The displacement of peoples will only increase, so Fort Europe raise your bridges and fortify your walls to keep the unfortunates out.
Looking at history of past centuries, the Russian Federation has no other option but to react. Today is a last chance to give diplomacy a chance. Russia will not accept a no for an answer. Good luck and wisdom to Blinken and Lavrov in Geneva. I hold no hope as the war rhetoric was hardened positions on both sides. For me it is a Cuban missile crisis executed in reverse on the European continent. The highest risk as Europe is now represented by a foreign power the US, the battlefield and blood will flow in Europe starting in the Ukraine. Why did Zelensky leave Ukraine for a 2-day visit to Poland?
US accuses Russia of conspiring to take over Ukraine government | The Guardian |
The US has alleged that Russian intelligence is recruiting current and former Ukrainian government officials to take over the government in Kyiv and cooperate with a Russian occupying force.
The US Treasury on Thursday imposed sanctions on two Ukrainian members of parliament and two former officials it said were involved in the alleged conspiracy, which involved discrediting the current government of the president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
"Russia has directed its intelligence services to recruit current and former Ukrainian government officials to prepare to take over the government of Ukraine and to control Ukraine's critical infrastructure with an occupying Russian force," the Treasury statement accompanying the sanctions said.

Moscow's Compelling Strategy | FPRI Eurasia - Jan. 18, 2022 |
How ambitious are Russia's foreign policy objectives, and how much force does Moscow believe it must employ to achieve them? Moscow has submitted various ultimatums, but the most critical and pressing issue is that the Kremlin now regards Ukraine as a permanently hostile country continuing to increase its defense capabilities. Russian hopes for improved relations with President Volodymyr Zelensky were dashed in 2021, and Moscow is now focused on reducing the long-term security risk posed by Ukraine, including halting its expanding defense cooperation with NATO. However, this is one of the most unrealistic and difficult demands for NATO to satisfy, particularly because Ukraine is developing long-range missiles domestically. This diplomatic impasse suggests a significant risk of a Russian military escalation in Ukraine with few obvious offramps.

In December 2019, a summit in the Normandy format (Germany, Russia, Ukraine, France) was held in Paris - the first for Mr. Zelensky. And so far the last one. The leaders of the four approved a list of steps to be taken to implement the Minsk agreements.

Kuleba and Blinken divide Europe. Modern Yalta Conference-2022 😂
Does the US Secretary of State know that on this map the lands of Poland are also assigned to Ukraine? In particular, Przemysl and Chelm. Poles don't mind? 😜
But for some reason Kulebyak sends his guest to Kherson. What is the reason?
Secretary Antony J. Blinken and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba at a Joint Press Availability
While developing relations with the West, FM Kuleba ignored its powerful neighbour to the East ...
The MFA's main achievements, according to Kuleba, include the launch of the Crimean Platform, the development of a strategic partnership with Washington, London and Ankara, the emergence of the Associated Trio, the progress of the Lublin Triangle and Quadriga (bilateral dialogue with Erdogan, Turkey), Ukrainian leadership in the Danube region, NATO Enhanced Opportunities Partner status, as well as creation of the Foreign Policy Strategy of Ukraine.
Adopted back in the summer, the Strategy became the issue Kuleba paid the most attention to as a key achievement of Ukrainian diplomacy.
Quite likely when the Geneva talks fail miserably today, the Russian Federation united with Belarus will create a buffer zone along the long Ukrainian border as Zelensky & Co has become overtly hostile to its neighbour and the Russian speaking citizens of Ukraine.
As new PM of Rutte IV, announced a visit to Ukraine with new fresh FM Hoekstra, the former Financev Minister and leader of the rightwing Christian Democrats (CDA).
Apparently there was a misunderstanding as President Zelensky went on a brief 2-day holiday to Poland, a friendly state for Ukraine - see unison during WWII.
Nevertheless Rutte thought it appropriate to announce the willingness to provide defensive weapons to Ukraine, if asked by NATO. There seems to be some NATO coordination to fulfill weapons and arms requirements for a non-member in a state of war with its neighbour.
A stark warning to FM Hoekstra as PM Rutte sometimes loses sight of his colleagues and they end up in a backroom of Putin's Russian dasha. 😂
Dutch FM Halbe Zijlstra quits after lying about Putin meeting | SMH AU - Feb. 14, 2018 |
"We live in a country where the truth matters. [Rutte regulair collector of 5 Pinocchio's] That's why I see no other option than to resign," said Zijlstra, who had held the job for less than four months.
Zijlstra admitted that he had lied in 2016 when he said he had attended a meeting a decade earlier at which Putin reportedly spoke of plans for regional expansion.
He said he did not in fact attend the meeting but had heard second hand about the president's remarks - comments that led opposition parties to demand his resignation and that the Russian Embassy dismissed as "fake news".
The Russian Embassy said in a statement that Zijlstra's allegations "do not hold up against any criticism and are only intended to spread false perceptions of Russia's intentions."
