not those ferrets, the other ones
There have been a lot of reversing ferrets in the past week. Out went the Conservatives' reputation for economic competence, and out went the chancellor. Two beliefs are, as a result, doing the rounds: the Tories are doomed to near-extinction at the next election, and tax cuts are a bad thing. Neither is true.
DICTION CORNER UK-Eng. idiom, reverse ferret
Far from being a pie-in-the-sky panacea, growth is the only long-term solution to our problems. Not sugar-rush growth fueled by knee-jerk tax cuts, but growth based on steadily improving investment in our private sector, aided by targeted government investment. Then, as the economy improves, we can revisit lower taxes.
[...]
We must take a long, hard look at our strategic spending priorities. We have to explain clearly what we are doing and why. No dodging the hard questions, just straight talking. You can sum it up in the three Cs: competence, communication[,] and when it comes to the election, campaigning.
We as a party have two years [read: GE 2024] to get ourselves out of this hole -- and it's a deep hole when it comes to public confidence [C4]. But we have a couple of things on our side. Despite the factionalism in the run-up to and aftermath of Brexit, our MPs are overwhelmingly predisposed to supporting a competent leader. And in Labour we face a paper tiger opposition populated by politicians with no business experience, no sympathy for wealth creation[,] and an addiction to higher taxation.

As a former Colonial Empire, we know what the Kremlin is up to ... rebuilding an Imperial Russia Empire.

We did not invade and bomb #Iraq #Libya #syria ... we do not support the right of the Palestinian people their own state ... the should appreciate governance by Israel's Defence Forces and their foreign born settlers. No to UNSC Resolutions.

Tories and Labour stand shoulder to shoulder in support of Israel's acts against Palestinian terror ... not #freedomfighters

UK trade department planning Belfast hub | Belfast Telegraph - March 2021 |

... but Infrastructure Minister says similar moves undermine devolution

The trade department, led by Minister Liz Truss, said the move to install trade and investment hubs in the regional cities of Edinburgh, Cardiff, Darlington and Belfast was part of the UK government's "levelling up" agenda.

There would be 550 staff across the hubs by 2025, with "an ambition" to increase staff to 750 by 2030. There would be 75 staff in Belfast.

But earlier this month SDLP Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon described a move by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to open an office here as a "power grab" aimed at "undermining devolution".

Risk inequality, austerity and lower taxes.

Mega, MAGA Trickle-down economics. Conservatives

Later in his remarks, Biden claimed that GOP leaders have "made it clear they will crash the economy next year by threatening the full faith and credit of the United States" if the administration yields "to their demand to cut Social Security and Medicare."

"It's mega, MAGA trickle down," the president closed. "The kind of policies that have failed the country before, and it'll fail it again and will mean more wealth to the very wealthy, higher inflation for the middle class. That's the choice we're facing."

Republicans could take back control of Congress in November's midterm elections.
