Empire Building South-East Asia

Japan's constitution and Article 9 guarantee for Pacifism died along with the death of Abe.

Death throes of an empire: nationalist spirit with advances in technology giving an edge relative to neighbouring states leads to feeling of superiority, dehumanizing other people as inferior. The ingredients for genocide and inhumane acts by a state. History repeating itself ... fascism. The fabric of a state and its culture falling outside the realm of multilateralism, going it alone. One can easily equate narrative of superiority with today's exceptionalism. All men (and women) are created equal and no false interpretation of a 250 year old constitution can change that. As the world burns and the glaciers melt.

Battle Over Solomon Islands

Australia `must ready Solomon Islands invasion' to stop China security deal | March 25, 2022 |

Australia must be willing to invade the Solomon Islands and topple its government if that's what is necessary to stop a proposed security pact between China and the Pacific nation going ahead, one commentator has argued.

David Llewellyn-Smith, founding publisher of MacroBusiness and former owner of leading Asia Pacific foreign affairs journal The Diplomat, says this is "Australia's Cuban missile crisis" and chillingly warns a Chinese naval base in the Solomons would be "the effective end of our sovereignty and democracy".

'A sea change': Biden reverses DECADES of Chinese US trade policy, 26 Dec Politico
[...]
"You really have seen a sea change in the way that they're looking at the relationship with China," said Clete Willems, who helped design China US economic policy in the Trump White House as Deputy Assistant to the President for International Economics and Deputy Director of the National Economic Council. "The Biden administration views Chinese < wipes tears > indigenous innovation as a per se national security threat ... and that is a big leap [and a long march?] from where we've ever been before."

Taken together, the "protect" and "promote" agendas represent a fundamental rethinking in the American government's approach to China's technological advancement and, ultimately, its economic development. While American policymakers were previously content to manage China's technological growth and make sure it stayed a few generations behind the U.S., security officials now seek to bring Beijing's development—particularly in chips and computing, but soon in other sectors—closer to a standstill.

National security adviser Jake ["The Snake"] Sullivan, who has led the development of much of the protect agenda, previewed the actions in September. Previous U.S. policy, he noted, sought to maintain "relative advantages" over adversaries through a "'sliding scale approach that said we need to stay only a couple of generations ahead."
