Yad Vashem and Holocaust: Putin's Private Party | Jan 24, 2020 |

Coming week Israel and the occupied territory of Palestine will receive word from the White House how the West Bank will be carved up to the advantage and "security" of the Jewish settlers. Trampling on the historic rights of the Palestinian people living in the Middle East as refugees. With the signature of the man in the White House, the UN Security Council Resolution will be dropped in the trash bin of US History, including the Rights for Independence and Freedom of all people.

Blinken talks of how stepfather took on Soviet denial of Babi Yar massacre | I24 News |

"For much of the last eight decades, the world did not remember what happened at Babi Yar. That was by design. The Nazis were not alone in trying to bury what had happened. For decades, Soviet history omitted that the 33,771 victims of those first two days - and tens of thousands more executed later - were Jews. And that they were killed because they were Jews," Blinken said.

He then went on to tell the story of how his Jewish stepfather Samuel Pisar, who survived the Shoah, took part in an American delegation that participated in an off-the-record dialogue with Soviet leaders in 1971 at a conference in Kyiv.

The Soviet delegation displayed hostility and made antisemitic remarks, which prompted Pisar to begin a dialogue on the dangers of antisemitism and ethnic and racial hatred and invited the Soviets to visit Babi Yar.

Didn't Samuel Pisar reflect on the role of Ukrainian partisans, Bandera and the OUN who participated in the genocide at Babi Yar and in Volhynia in Eastern Galicia.

Thoughts at Passover and Ukrainian Families

Biden at 'People's Seder': 'Grateful that families are together again'

The White House hosted on Thursday a virtual event to celebrate Passover under the title "the people's Seder."

President Joe Biden wished happy Passover "to all who celebrate in America, Israel, and around the world."

"Thanks to the progress made during the pandemic, we're grateful that this year's Passover marks the first time in three years, that many families and friends sit around the Seder table together again," he said.

Speaking about the war in Ukraine, the President said that during this holiday, "our hearts with the people of Ukraine and all the people who are fighting for freedom. May the spirit of Passover deliverance from oppression carry you forward and give you strength."

Vice President Kamala Harris said that on Friday evening, "our family, like so many families in the United States, in Israel, and around the world, will return to the Seder table."

Some didn't make it to Passover 2022 ...

Yesterday, two Palestinian women were executed in cold blood at West Bank checkpoints. Ghada Sabateen, 47 a partially-blind, widow and mother of six was crossing the road at a checkpoint. Soldiers grew suspicious and shouted at her to stop. When she continued moving toward them they shot her. She was unarmed. They let her bleed to death.

Laughable ... lies ... invasion and occupation of Iraq, overthrow and chaos in Libya, attempted and failed regime change in Syria causing half a million deaths, millions of displaced persons across the region, hardship and instability and root cause of rightwing populist leaders gaining a foothold across Europe.  Xenophobia and Islamophobia ...

Which Religion Thinks It's OK to Beat Up Rivals, But Not for Them to Resist?

Well, not quite. Imagine this: you belong to a synagogue next door to a church.   Both houses of worship don't get along well with each other. Both claim the same strip of land for a renovation and expansion of their respective sanctuaries. Both have tried mediation of their claims.  But it hasn't worked.

So the church ups the ante by sending its worshippers to pray on the disputed spot they claim as their own. When the Jews confront the Christian worshippers, violence ensues. So the church calls in the local riot police who whale on the Jews, beating them to a pulp.  They throw stun grenades and tear gas into the Jewish sanctuary.  They arrest most of the worshippers, bind and gag them and force them to lie prone on the floor. They don't even spare the rabbi and the chazan.   One worshipper even dies from a rubber bullet fired at point-blank range.

After that horrifying event,  the Jews return enraged to the contested spot and pelt the Christians who are praying there. The Christians are outraged.  How dare these Jewish thugs and rioters pelt us with stones when we are in the midst of our sacred prayer?

Opinion: The controversy surrounding Alice Walker | Berkeleyside |

"I want a year of not being `Alice Walker,'" Walker writes in an entry in her recently published journals. That's not going to happen anytime soon. Alice Walker can't not be Alice Walker.

I've read Walker's work and written about it in newspapers and scholarly publications for more than three decades. I've always regarded her as enigmatic and even problematic. Her views on race, sex, ethnicity and gender, which are displayed openly in her journals, have long struck me as thorny. The recent controversy reaffirms my sense of puzzlement, though I also believe that much of her art and her personality ought to be looked at through the prism of her birth to poor Black sharecroppers in the South, her escape to the white world in the North, her links as a student to Howard Zinn, the lefty Jewish historian, and her marriage to Melvyn R. Leventhal, a Jewish civil rights lawyer who recently stated that he never knew Walker to be antisemitic. In fact, in Blossoms, she notes her attraction to Jews.

As a Jewish intellectual and a long-time political activist, I don't think that Walker's comments about Icke, Israel and Palestine ought to have led the Berkeley Book Festival to uninvite her. Great writers ought not to be censored or banned because of their views. T. S. Eliot, the author of The Waste Land, was antisemitic. Nobel Prize winner, William Faulkner, wanted southern Blacks to stay in their place at the bottom of a racist society. Scratch a writer and you're bound to find flaws and even reactionary views.
