This Brattle Group study (https:/www.brattle.com/insights-events/publications/grid-enhancing-technologies-shown-to-double-reg ional-renewable-energy-capacity-according-to-study-by-brattle-consultants) found that in Kansas and Oklahoma Grid Enhancing Technologies [GETs] could double renewable energy generation on the grid, paying for themselves in just six months.

Rocky Mountain Institute describes Grid Enhancing Technologies (GETs) (https:/rmi.org/ferc-could-slash-inflation-and-double-renewables-grid-upgrades) as

"Dynamic Line Ratings

Adjusting the carrying capacity of transmission lines based on real-time measurement of ambient conditions

Transit analogy: real-time adjusted speed limits

"Advanced Power Flow Controls

Hardware solutions that push power away from lines with capacity constraints and pull power to lines with spare capacity

Transit analogy: railroad switching stations that direct trains to free tracks

"Topology Optimization

Software solutions that automatically route power flows around congested areas

My utility company now offers a rebate and a rate reduction if you install a WiFi-enabled thermostat and enroll in their demand management program. Presumably this allows them to avoid the accidentally-synchronized smart thermostat problem.

Not yet, it has not registered on the locals. In the Denver area, Xcel announced a time-of-use rate structure and got pushback based on the argument that it is a disguised rate increase.

Colorado Springs is weird, though. We have no problems with radiation detectors on light poles "because the bad guys might try to smuggle in a nuke" but then complain about traffic speed cameras on those same poles "because it's the government trying to make money from the citizen patriots." One advantage is we have a city-owned municipal power system which keeps the commies out.

PS: I live in Cambridge, MA which is so much less "liberal" than its reputation, much like the cow college (Hereford) based here.

The reputation of Colorado Springs is skewed similarly to Cambridge.

Obviously we have the headquarters of a bunch of Christofascist organizations, and a lot of people have serious cases of religion, and there is a little church in every strip mall, but, surprisingly, by their own rating system the city is considered "unchurched."

The reason is the climate. Everybody is so focused on hiking and rafting and walking their dogs and blasting around in their SUVs and going to coffee shops that there is not a lot of energy left over for church. It is easy to simply avoid the whole thing.

It is nothing compared to the South, where the tacit assumption is that everybody is a Southern Baptist.
