Robert Schumann Meets anti-Christ Joe Biden

The European Union and the legacy of Franklin Delano Roosevelt

President Roosevelt was always a voice of optimism …

      ”We face the future with
      confidence and with courage.
      We are Americans.”

Troubling Times for Fortress Europa | July 2016 |

In 1942, French lawyer and economist Robert Schuman joined the French Resistance after two years as a prisoner of the Nazi political police known as the Gestapo. For the remainder of the war, he spoke out about the eventual defeat of Nazi-controlled Germany and Europe's need for post-war Franco-German reconciliation.

Just a few short years later, as Prime Minister of France, he proposed a framework for the European Community Single Market, a trading partnership whose aim was "to make war not only unthinkable, but materially impossible." In May 1950, he presented a new government policy in a declaration that became the founding of the European Coal and Steel Community: the first supranational European union and the building blocks of the European Union.

"Europe will not be made all at once, or according to a single plan," he wrote. "It will be built through concrete achievements which first create a de facto solidarity... The pooling of coal and steel production... will change the destinies of those regions which have long been devoted to the manufacture of munitions of war, of which they have been the most constant victims..."

In 1957, the Treaty of Rome created the European Economic Community (EEC), a six-nation organization dedicated to integrating the national economies of Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and West Germany.

Joe Biden the master of America's foreign policy is an advocate of the devil and has a track record of war crimes. The enforcement of more and sophisticated arms pouring into Europe is an advocacy of war, promotion of the Military Industrial Complex on a unprecedented scale. Forever war, chaos and division.

Dwight Eisenhower warning Military Industrial Complex

Unfortunately the Eisenhower warning fell on deaf ears in America. Europe with Social Democracy managed to live in peace for over a half century ... overtaken by America's military might through NATO expansion. The world will not ever be the same ... our way of life has been revamped against our will. A grand failure of EU leadership and key nations that should have kept trust in the founding principles of the Four Freedoms and Franklin D. Roosevelt ... America has turned the page and now lives by the dogma of Barry Goldwater and his acolytes.

The FEC has been criticized for years for not having enough funding, manpower and time to enforce election laws, and it appeared to have those same problems in this case.

From article in The New Yorker ...

Cambridge Analytica is essentially a shell company created by the British firm Strategic Communications Laboratories. During the 2016 campaign, according to Cadwalladr, C.A. was staffed primarily by non-U.S. citizens, in possible violation of American campaign-finance laws. This included the contractors the firm brought to Austin, Texas, to work with Trump's digital team there.

....
Trump's digital team, headed by Brad Parscale and Jared Kushner. Alongside all of them were Facebook employees who were embedded with the Trump campaign to help them use Facebook's various tools most effectively--including the so-called "dark posts," used to dissuade African-Americans from showing up to vote.

....
In a statement, Mark Zuckerberg could only chalk the whole saga up to "a breach of trust between Kogan, Cambridge Analytica and Facebook." The company is aided in maintaining this position by privacy policies that are as obscure as they are lax.

F*cked up America and economic policy across the globe democracy  No 3rd term for Trump, down with MAGA hats. Republicans and UK Tories have stolen democracy.

Exploiting Basic Instinct Fear

Corporate and political campaign strategist Crosby Textor Group

Crosby has had several high profile political advisory roles in Australia and the UK.

These roles often led to controversy, with Crosby's tactics widely criticised as being "inflammatory" and exploiting voters' basic instinct of fear (e.g. on issues like immigration, refugees and crime).

Despite Crosby's controversial campaign tactics, he was awarded a knighthood in 2016 for "service to politics" in the UK.

Beware of the US masters of propaganda, who work for the wealthy and powerful oligarchs ... (h/t hermit @MofA)

Here is Franklin Delaney Roosevelt, 29 April, 1938, from his, "Message to Congress on Curbing Monopolies"

Unhappy events abroad have retaught us two simple truths about the liberty of a democratic people.

The first truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is Fascism--ownership of Government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power.

The second truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if its business system does not provide employment and produce and distribute goods in such a way as to sustain an acceptable standard of living.

    Both lessons hit home.

Among us today a concentration of private power without equal in history is growing.

This concentration is seriously impairing the economic effectiveness of private enterprise as a way of providing employment for labor and capital and as a way of assuring a more equitable distribution of income and earnings among the people of the nation as a whole.

A Very American Coup (Almost) | by DeAnander on Aug 3rd, 2007 |

This coup is mentioned in the enduring isolationist and anticorporate classic, War is a Racket by Smedley Butler.   Butler was a disillusioned career soldier who -- after advancing to the rank of General -- became so angry about the disconnects between his conscience, US official propaganda, and the actual military/imperial ops in which he participated, that he resigned and wrote his whistleblowing book.

Smedley Butler is a name with which you may not be familiar, even though he twice won the Congressional Medal of Honor. If he were to appear on television today, he would be identified as "Maj. General Smedley Butler, USMC (ret.)" But even if he were still alive, he would not appear on any network television news shows because, late in life, he openly expressed his opposition to the war system.

He went on to expose the symbiotic relationship existing between the institutional interests of corporate America and the state. Many former top generals and admirals have written memoirs around the theme "war is hell," but Gen. Butler went a step further, writing a book titled War Is a Racket.

Though few Americans know his name, Larry Fink may be the most powerful man in the post-bailout economy. His giant BlackRock money-management firm controls or monitors more than $12 trillion worldwide--including the balance sheets of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and the toxic A.I.G. and Bear Stearns assets taken over by the U.S. government last year. How did Fink rebound from a humiliating failure to become the financial fulcrum of Washington and Wall Street? Through a series of interviews, the author probes his role in the crisis, his unique risk-assessment system, and the growing concern he inspires.

Facts check: Baerbock quote falsified and exploited

Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Alliance 90/The Greens) spoke on Wednesday at "Forum 2000", a conference in Prague that dealt with threats to democracy and, above all, with the war in Ukraine and at which the EU Foreign Ministers to meet informally.

In addition to Baerbock, other foreign ministers, such as the Ukrainian Dmytro Kuleba, also spoke at a panel discussion at the opening event. Among other things, the discussion, which was held in English, dealt with the question of how long European countries can or should maintain support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia.

You can read a translated transcript of Baerbock's testimony at the event here.

At the event, Baerbock gave the following, very long answer to the question about the goal that is now being pursued in Ukraine:

"We stand by Ukraine for as long as they need us. And because we all agree on that and it's nothing to applaud because it's something normal when you think about justice and freedom in the world And that's where I would like to start a discussion about your speech, which I really appreciated, but I disagree on one point when you said that we shouldn't talk about the fact that this war could drag on for a long time

Because if I, as a politician, make the promise - and fortunately in a democracy there is a possibility that people will contradict me and say in four years: 'You didn't tell us the truth' - but if I make this promise to the Ukrainians : 'We will be by your side as long as you need us', then I would like to deliver, no matter what my German voters think, but I would like to deliver for the Ukrainian population. And that's why it's important to me to always be very open and clear.

Opinion: Kissing Hands? What's rotten in the UK

Liz Truss receives power as every other prime minister by Kissing Hands with the Queen. And we lap it up. The UK clings to its traditions, when all else fails. What happens when they fail, too, ask DW's Zulfikar Abbany.

Symbols of splits in a four-nation union

As I peer over my shoulder at the tiny island that had the temerity to leave the European Union and hear all the hullaballoo about Truss and the outgoing PM, Boris Johnson, flying up to Balmoral in Scotland, where our immobile monarch currently resides, in separate planes no less, during a fuel, food and cost-of-living crisis, when they could take a train (didn't we invent the railways?), that ceremony strikes me as the most glaring reflection of the parlous future facing UK communities.

Baerbock: Keine neuen Abhängigkeiten von Autokratien bei Energie

BERLIN (dpa-AFX) - Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has warned against becoming dependent on autocratic systems when looking for energy suppliers for Germany. Reliable partners will be needed in the future, said the Greens politician on Tuesday at the Federal Foreign Office at the business day of the heads of German missions abroad under the motto "Business for climate protection and sustainability". "The principle of hope, things won't get that bad with these autocratic governments, we can't afford that a second time," she added. The minister did not say which countries Baerbock meant.

Qatar did not make a good offer for liquid gas, Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) said last week. Now the FDP is asking Chancellor Olaf Scholz to take action himself.

    ....
"This principle of hope - it will work out somehow - we paid dearly for that. We're paying dearly for that now. And other people are paying for it with their lives," said Baerbock, referring to Germany's dependence on Russian gas. "In reality, we never got cheap gas from Russia. The price may have been cheap at certain moments. But what led to a cheap price was just blind dependencies or swapping of infrastructure, which was actually a security risk." Russian gas was "paid for twice or three times with our national security".

Baerbock said that if Germany now enters into energy partnerships in the liquid gas sector, it is clear: "It will be switched to climate-neutral gas in the future. To green hydrogen. That is the only way we can go with our new energy partnerships."

With a view to the economy's dependency on raw materials from China, Baerbock appealed to company representatives not to turn a blind eye to what was happening in the country. That applies to the planned China strategy of the federal government. "And I hope that also applies to your other economic activities," she demanded. Even the economy cannot afford to act according to the "business first credo" again, "without taking into account the long-term risks and dependencies".

    NUTS

What a f*cking dreamer ... wrecking people's lives ... the surge in energy price is not sustainable ... setting her goal of 2030 or 2035 is outright an attack on Germany. Europe has been divided by cultures and there is and will be no cohesion. The European project has come to an end with a Big Bang. The planet is dying and we have an arrogant minister of foreign affairs sitting on the coattails of Joe and Jens. Ukraine is destroyed and what did anyone gain?

A major shift of global wealth to authoritarian states Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Azerbaijan, Russia and to an unstable United States delivering dirty LNG from fracking.

Cheaper electric vehicles coming despite high battery costs, 8 Sep MSRP
A $30,000 EV that checks all of the boxes is just a little above the price of a comparable small gas-powered SUV. The Toyota RAV4, the top seller in the segment and the top-selling vehicle in the U.S. that isn't a pickup, starts at just over $28,000.

The only EVs with starting prices under $30,000 (including shipping) now are versions of the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Bolt. Both are smaller than a typical gas-powered compact SUV. The Mini Cooper Electric, Mazda MX30 and Hyundai Kona Electric are in the $30,000s, according to Edmunds.

Kia's Niro EV, Hyundai's Ioniq 5, Ford's F-150 Lightning pickup, the Volkswagen ID.4, Kia EV6, Toyota b24x, Ford's Mustang Mach E, Audi's Q4 e-tron, the Subaru Solterra, Polestar 2, and Tesla Model 3 all have starting prices in the $40,000s....
