The U.S. knew Hussein was launching some of the worst chemical attacks in history -- and special presidential envoy Donald Rumsfeld set up a meeting in Baghdad and still gave him a hand.

Dutchman Van Anraat On Trial for Halabja Genocide | Posted by Oui @BooMan - Dec 1, 2005 |
[started blogging in September 2004 at the Pond of Martin Longmon]
Frans van Anraat, 63, is charged with complicity in war crimes and genocide for supplying agents for poison gas used by Iraq in the 1980-1988 war with Iran and against its own Kurdish population, including a 1988 attack on the town of Halabja.
"He is being accused of delivering raw materials necessary to build Saddam Hussein's chemical weapons. The use of those weapons by the regime in Baghdad led to death of thousands in Iraq and Iran," Prosecutor Fred Teeven told the court.
"He is complicit in serious international crimes."

International sources for technology and chemical precursors
According Iraq's report to the UN, the know-how and material for developing chemical weapons were obtained from firms in such countries as: the United States, West Germany, the United Kingdom, France and China. By far, the largest suppliers of precursors for chemical weapons production were in Singapore (4,515 tons), the Netherlands (4,261 tons), Egypt (2,400 tons), India (2,343 tons), and West Germany (1,027 tons). One Indian company, Exomet Plastics (now part of EPC Industrie) sent 2,292 tons of precursor chemicals to Iraq. The Kim Al-Khaleej firm, located in Singapore and affiliated to United Arab Emirates, supplied more than 4,500 tons of VX, sarin, and mustard gas precursors and production equipment to Iraq.
The provision of chemical precursors from US companies to Iraq was enabled by a Reagan administration policy that removed Iraq from the State Department's list State Sponsors of Terrorism. Leaked portions of Iraq's "Full, Final and Complete" disclosure of the sources for its weapons programs shows that thiodiglycol, a substance needed to manufacture deadly mustard gas, was among the chemical precursors provided to Iraq from U.S.companies such as Alcolac International, Inc and Phillips. Both companies have since undergone reorganization and Phillips, once a subsidiary of Phillips Petroleum and now part of ConocoPhillips, an American oil and energy company while Alcolac Intl. has since dissolved and reformed as Alcolac Inc.

Why Afghan Politicians Express Anger And Grief Over Soleimani's Killing | RFERL |
The United States confirmed killing the powerful commander of Iran's elite Qods (Quds) Force in the late hours of January 2 in an air strike near Baghdad International Airport.
The same day, Afghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah expressed his condolences to Iran. In a statement, he acknowledged Soliemani's cooperation with Afghans during decades of war in Afghanistan.
Abdullah's statement was not as harsh as his political party's - Jammiat Islami. The lengthy press release on January 3 named Soleimani as a martyr and said the news of his death is received with deep grief and anguish.

A serie of three articles on outside intervention led by the U.S. [and Israel] supporting foreign terror groups in assassinations and terror campaign of bombings. The sanction regime by the Western nations leaves Iran in an economic poor shape and poverty. The historic ethnic division of Iran leaves multiple opportunities to be exploited by funding opposition movements seeking independence or at least some autonomy. A universal trend for self-identity and nationalism.
The criminal acts by the Jewish State of Israel is not covered in these series as it would be too extensive from the Mossad training the Shah’s secret service SAVAK in methods of oppression and torture.
The Fall of the Shah — The CIA has lost eleven espionage ground stations along the 1,600 km Iranian - Soviet border. The thousands of US military personnel contracted by the DoD have left.
The 8 years during the Reagan administration could by itself be written in a lively book.
