Broadening the War to Lebanon and Syria-Iraq

by Oui Sat Nov 11th, 2023 at 09:20:09 AM EST

Elijah J. Magnier is an excellent source on activities and views on the Hezbollah resistance movement and its political issues in Beirut and Lebanese government. There is no Saudi frontmen active in leadership like the Hariri's in the past. The Sunni (Sidon and Tripoli) and Shia divide (South and East in the Bekaa valley) May join fir es after the division led to the Syrian civil war causing nearly half a million deaths and millions of displaced persons and war refugees moving into Türkiye and beyond.

Will the rapprochement between Saudi Arabia and GCC countries with the Islamic Republic of Iran, brokered by China president Xi Jinping, endure is the $64k question. The hand of Joe Biden behind escalation of military adventure of the Netanyahu war cabinet is clearly visible. No escalation without clearance from the White House.

Joe Biden is well known for his miscalculations on foreign policy as a Senator and as Vice-President under Barack Obama from 2009-2016. A long losing streak spanning 50 years.

One person killed, many children wounded after Israeli snipers target al-Quds hospital, according to Palestinian Red Crescent

The Red Cross statement calling for the protection of patients, healthcare workers, medical facilities in Gaza comes as the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PCRS) said Israeli forces opened fire on the intensive care unit at al-Quds hospital in Gaza City.

One person was killed and 28 others were wounded in sniper fire by Israeli forces at the hospital, the organisation said.

The majority of the injured were children, it said, two of whom are in critical condition.

Source from The Guardian about sniper attack, yet unverified from a second source? Will check.

Destruction affecting Gaza hospitals 'becoming unbearable', says Red Cross

In a statement on Friday, the ICRC said attacks on medical facilities and personnel have dealt a "heavy blow" to Gaza's healthcare system - already "severely weakened" after more than a month of heavy fighting - and which is "taking a heavy toll" on civilians, patients and medical staff.

William Schomburg, head of ICRC sub-delegation in Gaza, said:

The destruction affecting hospitals in Gaza is becoming unbearable and needs to stop. The lives of thousands of civilians, patients and medical staff are at risk.

Children's hospitals have not been spared from the violence, the organisation says, including the "heavily damaged" al-Nasser hospital and al-Rantisi hospital, which has had to cease its operations.

Noting that the al-Shifa medical complex now hosts thousands of displaced families, it said any military operation around hospitals "must consider the presence of civilians, who are protected under international humanitarian law".

It was a harrowing scene of chaos that left several people killed and dozens outside the Al Shifa hospital in Gaza City.

At least 15 people were killed and dozens injured in the strike, which unfolded outside Gaza City’s Al Shifa hospital, Palestinian health ministry spokesperson Ashraf Al-Qudra said in a televised interview aired by Al Jazeera. The Palestine Red Crescent Society, a humanitarian organization, corroborated the information in a statement.

Al Shifa hospital suspends operations, baby dies - Gaza health ministry | Arab News |

The spokesperson for the Gaza health ministry said that operations in Al Shifa hospital complex, the largest in the Palestinian enclave, were suspended on Saturday after it ran out of fuel

“As a result, one newborn baby died inside the incubator, where there are 45 babies,” Ashraf Al-Qidra, the spokesman for the Health Ministry in Hamas-controlled Gaza told Reuters.

Israel’s military, which residents said had been fighting Hamas gunmen all night in and around Gaza City where the hospital is located, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“The situation is worse than anyone can imagine. We are besieged inside the Al Shifa Medical Complex, and the occupation has targeted most of the buildings inside,” Qidra said by telephone.

There is no Hamas military command center

Israel has been bombing Lebanon and Syria indiscriminately over many months or years really. Also the assassinations in Iran are in clear violation of the UN Charter International, law and human rights. There is no limit of the "right of self-defense" of the young Jewish State of Israel. Decades of impunity as Europe looks the other way. Not finding a solution or working for peace cannot last.

Israeli strikes hit Al Shifa Medical Complex sheltering thousands of war refugees | NBC News |

Strikes hit the Gaza Strip's largest hospital Friday, badly wounding displaced civilians on its grounds and in some cases forcing them to move yet again and seek refuge amid the devastating war.

The scenes of bloodshed and desperation at Al-Shifa Hospital came as Israeli forces closed in on the center of Gaza City, near at least four hospitals, according to Palestinian health officials.

In one video appearing to show an outpatient clinic of Al-Shifa on Friday, a young girl covered in blood shrieks with her hands held up to the sky.

"My father and brother," she wails. Nearby, a boy lies on the ground, motionless with his eyes open as a pool of blood forms around his head.

Dr. Adnan Albursh, a consultant orthopedic surgeon at Al-Shifa said there were multiple bombardments around the hospital throughout the day.

Late Friday night, he said the bombing had increased, telling NBC News around midnight: "Every time, every minute, we hear bombing around us ... They bombed the gate, the main gate of the hospital."

Gazans sheltering at Al-Shafaa hospital face 'unbearable' conditions | Arab News |

Al-Shafaa Medical Complex in the Gaza Strip has become a refuge for more than 50,000 displaced Palestinians. Many of them are in makeshift tents outside, others have squeezed into the corridors and waiting rooms, even though the hospital is a target for the ongoing Israeli onslaught that started over a month ago.

Al-Shafaa, the largest medical center in Gaza, has been stretched to the limit. Doctors are battling to treat thousands of serious injuries despite severe shortages of medical resources, clean water and power.

The situation is exacerbated by the Israel Defense Forces' repeated bombardment of the hospital and its ambulances under the pretext of eradicating Hamas. The most recent attack took place early on Friday, targeting the outpatient clinic, the obstetrics department, and the courtyard, leaving several Palestinians dead or injured.

The IDF has also bombed several other hospitals in Gaza in recent days, including Al-Nasr Children's Hospital and the Indonesian Hospital.

Displaced Palestinians at Al-Shafaa are finding the situation unbearable. They have been battling harsh conditions due to overcrowding, a lack of basic necessities including clean water, and power shortages. The medical center relies on weak solar-powered generators.

Abu Mohammad Al-Mallahi, 62, who has been staying in a makeshift tent with his family outside the hospital, told Arab News that clean drinking water is hard to come by, and families have not been receiving any food parcels.

"Gaza has been divided into three parts, and we are in the area where there are no vegetables at all," he said. "Even flour and bread -- basically everything -- is hard to obtain."

People are taking life "one day at a time," he added, wondering during the day if they will make it until nighttime, and knowing at night that they might not wake up in the morning.

"We are innocent civilians, and there are children and women here," he said. "We call on the United Nations to come to our aid."

Israel's savage actions in the name of Jews make Jews unsafe | Mondoweiss |

The FBI director said last week that hostilities in the Middle East may well spill over to the United States in attacks on Muslims and Jews, and Nevada Senator Jacky Rosen, who had received a death threat of an antisemitic character, said, "I'm feeling the same as Jews are feeling all around the world -- under attack and under threat."

While we should be skeptical about pro-Israel organizations and individuals conflating antisemitic expressions with anti-Zionist ones, I assume that the FBI director is right, and that some of these incidents are in fact antisemitic. Columbia scholar Rashid Khalidi "readily acknowledged a rash of recent antisemitic incidents on college campuses," Michelle Goldberg reports in the NY Times. In one case, a Cornell student has been charged with threatening to attack a kosher dining hall. And I see many Jews online and elsewhere expressing fears and vulnerability, and I would never dismiss such assertions.

It is therefore necessary to state a point I've made many times before: Jewish thinkers have long warned that Israel's dependence on American Jews for political support for actions that many in the world condemn - ethnic cleansing, massacres, and now genocidal actions in Gaza - present a danger to those communities. When American Jewish organizations present wall-to-wall support for such actions, and indeed insist that to be Jewish means to support Israel as "the Jewish state" as it kills civilians, this declaration of unanimity is actually dangerous to Jews.

His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, on 11 November 2023, addressed a speech to the Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit, held in Riyadh, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Therefore, it is incumbent on the international community and on all of us to make sure the future of the region and its people is not left in the hands of those engaging in outbidding tactics. When it comes to the future of the region, there can be no room for those tactics, nor for self-serving agendas.

We must also deal with this crucial moment in a manner which is consistent with historical responsibility, including the following self-evident facts:

  • There is no alternative to genuine peace in the region - peace which guarantees the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people on the basis of the two-State solution;
  • There is no alternative to an independent Palestinian State, with East Jerusalem as its capital;
  • There is no alternative to strengthening the Palestinian Authority, under the leadership of my brother President Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen;
  • And there is no alternative to establishing mechanisms for sustainable regional security, based on respect for international law and the agreed international resolutions.
  • Your Majesties, Your Highnesses,

Resolving this crisis and making sure it does not happen again will be achieved only by stopping the aggression against Al-Quds Al-Sharif and ending the provocations that hurt the feelings of more than a billion Muslims.

For this reason, I have always keenly sought, in my capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, to draw attention to the seriousness of these Israeli practices and provocations, and to the dire consequences they have for security and stability in the entire region.

In parallel, we have been working on the ground, through the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency, to protect the Holy City, and preserve its historical and legal status as well as the holy, religious sites therein.

As indicated in the "Jerusalem Call," which I signed with His Holiness Pope Francis, it is the duty of everyone to preserve the Holy City of Jerusalem as a shared heritage of humankind and, above all, as a symbol of values of mutual respect.

Whoever thinks that the logic of force can change this reality and this deeply-rooted identity is wrong. As Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, I shall always rise against such attempts, in coordination with my brother, His Majesty King Abdullah II, the custodian of the Islamic and Christian holy places in Jerusalem.

Biden Mideast agenda comes crashing down in Gaza | Mondoweiss |

For years, many analysts of United States foreign policy have argued that our myopic and lock-step support for Israel harms our interests in the Middle East. Their case has been powerfully boosted by the reactions to our policy toward Israel's merciless bombardment and invasion of the Gaza Strip.

Israel's actions have undermined American credibility and influence in the Middle East. That was made crystal clear during U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken`s latest tour of the region that began last week. Of course, all of these countries rely on the U.S. in one way or another, whether for arms purchases, diplomacy, or trade. But one after another rebuffed Blinken in very clear terms.

It started in Israel. Blinken arrived with President Joe Biden's full backing for $14.3 billion in supplemental aid that, although currently stalled in Congress because of Republican poison pill conditions attached to it, someone as knowledgeable of U.S. politics as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu knows is a virtual certainty to arrive in Israeli coffers soon.

    [...]

But the chill in the air was given substance by Blinken's Arab interlocutors. "As we said before at the Arab League...we consider that this is a war crime that we will stop with all our strengths," Safadi said in Arabic. "The Arab countries, the Arab world demand an immediate ceasefire that will end this war and end the killing of the innocent and the destruction it is causing.  And we don't accept that it is a self-defense; it is a ranging war that is killing civilians, destroying their homes, their hospitals, their schools, their mosques, and their churches.  It cannot be justified under any pretext, and it will not bring Israel security; it will not bring the region peace. The killing must stop, and also Israel immune from committing war crimes must stop."

If there was any doubt that Safadi was indicting the Biden administration with his words, his mention of Israeli immunity--a clear reference to the diplomatic protection that the United States gives Israel to prevent it from facing any consequences for its actions--dispelled those questions. This was not coming from a Hezbollah or Iranian leader, but from Jordan, a country that has had a relationship with Israel for nearly thirty years and is dependent on U.S. aid now more than ever as its economy struggles.

Yet Safadi, who also had polite words for Blinken to soften the blow, felt it important to clearly and publicly rebuke him. Egyptian Foreign Minister Shoukry, whose country might be even more desperate for U.S. economic help, was even more blunt. After plainly stating that Israel was committing acts of collective punishment and targeting civilians, he turned his ire to American double standards.

"[W]e should not deal with this crisis of international peace and security in a double standard where, while some are condemning targeting civilians and describing this as a gross violation of humanitarian law and to adhere to the demands of a ceasefire, while we find that they are opposed the same principles for the same people when things are related to the Palestinian cause, as if the Arab blood is lesser than the bloods of other people," he said, with Blinken standing right next to him.

FOREIGN MINISTER SHOUKRY: (Via interpreter) Thank you very much.  I think it's inappropriate for me to talk about the U.S. position in the presence of the U.S. Secretary of State.  I believe we had a very comprehensive and transparent conversation and with countries that share the desire to work effectively to contain this crisis and to put down the foundations and solutions that would spare the region from these conflicts that allows us also to talk about and deal with all issues using the same measures, and to protect civilians and to ensure the flow of humanitarian assistance, and also to deal with the root causes of the crisis, which is the failure to implement decades later the agreement to establish a two-state solution given that this would put an end to the conflict and end the enmity between the two parties and would mitigate all the threats related to that.

We always look forward to work closely with the U.S.  We have a strategic relationship with the U.S. and we appreciate the capabilities available to the U.S.  There was interest and very clear interest that we reached, and we will work in the future to translate these ideas and visions into a reality on the ground to contain this severe crisis and humanitarian crisis.  All efforts should be - should come together and to work positively and end this conflict, not just even end this crisis but also the root causes of the conflict.

Arab League and OIC summit on Gaza calls for Israel arms embargo | The National UAE |

Leaders urge International Criminal Court to complete its investigation into war crimes committed by Israel

The joint Arab League and Organisation of Islamic Co-operation summit has called for an arms embargo against Israel after concluding three days of talks on their collective response and action regarding the developments in Gaza.

"We demand all countries to stop exporting weapons and ammunition to the occupation authorities that are used by their army and the terrorist settlers who kill the Palestinian people and destroy their homes, hospitals, schools, mosques and churches," the final communique read.

The leaders called on the International Criminal Court to complete its investigation into alleged war crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian people in all the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.

Specifically, the leaders also called for the establishment of two specialised legal monitoring units to document Israeli crimes committed in the Gaza Strip since October 7 and to prepare to file legal proceedings in international courts.

Saudi Arabia and the other countries called on Saturday for an immediate end to military operations in Gaza, declaring at the joint summit in Riyadh that Israel bears responsibility for "crimes" against Palestinians.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman gathered Arab and Muslim leaders for the summit as the kingdom seeks to exert its influence to press the US and Israel for an end to hostilities in Gaza.

Prince Mohammed said Saudi Arabia affirmed its "condemnation and categorical rejection of this barbaric war against our brothers in Palestine".
