Universal Protests Condemn Biden and Israel

by Oui Sun Nov 5th, 2023 at 08:30:58 AM EST

In breach of International law to prevent genocide with slaughter of civilians in Gaza concentration camp of Palestinian refugees. A demonstration of ugliness seldom witnessed of biblical proportion. And the majority of the Western world stay silent in approval of weeks of inhumane acts by the military might of the "Jewish" state of Israel. Many protesters in Washington were of the Jewish diaspora and were part of the organization such as the Jewish Voice for Peace.

'In our thousands, in our millions, we are all Palestinian' - thousands demonstrate in Washington, London, Berlin, Dakar.

Tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets in cities across the world for a weekend of demonstrations demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

Pro-Palestine demonstrations took place on Saturday in various cities including Washington, DC; London; Paris; Berlin; Milan and Dhaka.

In Turkey, a convoy of Palestine supporters headed to a US military base in the south of the country for a protest to coincide with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken`s arrival to the country on Sunday.

On Saturday, at least 15 people were killed and dozens more wounded in an Israeli attack on al-Fakhoora school in Jabalia refugee camp, as Israel continued its air and ground assault of the besieged enclave.

Since the war began, 9,488 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza. More children have died in Gaza in this war so far than in all conflicts around the world in each of the past four years, according to the charity Save the Children.

United Kingdom
Large crowds held sit-down protests in London blocking Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus before marching to and gathering in Trafalgar Square.

Protesters held "Freedom for Palestine" placards and chanted "ceasefire now" and "in our thousands, in our millions, we are all Palestinians".

London's Metropolitan Police estimated that around 30,000 attended the rally. Police said they had made 11 arrests, including one for displaying a placard that could incite hate, contrary to terrorism legislation.

Earlier, some demonstrators had also gathered outside the BBC headquarters in London in protest at the network's coverage of the war, which they called "biased".

Just as complicit in Israeli war crimes

Echoing Washington's stance, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's government has stopped short of calling for a ceasefire, and instead advocated humanitarian pauses to allow aid into Gaza.

As de slaughter continues unabated, UN shelters, hospitals, aid workers and ambulances were targeted in an unseen series of war crimes ... decades of impunity and protected by the United Stated has led to further escalation of violence.

’No ceasefire, no votes’: tens of thousands attend pro-Palestinian rally in Washington DC | The Guardian |

Protesters call on Biden to demand ceasefire in Israel-Gaza conflict and end military aid to Israel

Tens of thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters marched through downtown Washington DC on Saturday in what organizers hoped was the largest US demonstration of its kind since Israel began its bombardment of Gaza after Hamas attacked the country last month.

The crowd waved Palestinian flags, carried posters and chanted slogans during the National March on Washington: Free Palestine, which took place alongside similar events across the US and elsewhere in the world.

Organizers representing or endorsed by dozens of pro-Palestinian groups directed marchers to Freedom Plaza in the nation’s capital before looping past the White House.

“Now is the time to stand with the besieged people of Palestine! Gaza is being bombed by the hour. Its people are denied food, water and electricity by Israel. Tens of thousands more people are likely to die. We must ACT!” the Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (Answer) coalition said on its website.

The march, alongside protests in New York, Seattle and other US cities, was part of an intensifying push to demand both a ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza conflict and an end to US and western military aid to Israel. Demonstrations in support of Palestine were also staged in London, Berlin, Paris, Ankara and Istanbul with a similar message for both Israel and supportive western governments.

END APARTHEID

Brian Becker, the director of Answer, told the crowd in Washington that US public support for the Palestinian people had “entered a new era unlike any that had come before it”.

He drew a parallel with the anti-apartheid movement against South Africa four decades ago, saying that when it began the US Congress still considered Nelson Mandela a terrorist. But seven years later, Mandela was the president of South Africa.

Change, Becker said, happens “in leaps and bounds” but not as a result of what happens in Congress or who is the White House, but what happens in communities and on the streets.

“The change comes from us,” he said. “We’re sending a strong message, a very strong message to Joe Biden: if you stand with genocide, we hold you guilty of genocide.”

“When you kill 10,000 Palestinians not because of what they’ve done but because of who they are, when you commit genocide against a people, and destroy a people in whole or in part, you are guilty of genocide and that’s why we’re going to the White House.”

Israel’s war of vengeance shows international law is ’a manipulated series of norms’ | TRT World |

Renowned International Law Professor Richard Falk says Western leadership becomes "self-righteous" to enforce international law "when it's in their interest" while in other cases, they remain silent.

The scale of devastation caused by Israeli bombings in Gaza is horrifying. A small enclave of over two million Palestinians navigating back-breaking economic and social blockade for decades, Gaza has once again been subjected to collective punishment – Israel’s use of incendiary bombs on densely populated civilian areas amounts to war crimes.

In moments like these, when a staggering death toll of civilians isn’t significant enough to move the international community to use the same language of condemnation and criticism it has employed against Russia in light of the Ukraine conflict, Western leadership fails to convince the world about the uniformity of its much-touted "rules-based order".

Will Tel Aviv ever be held accountable for the crimes it has committed in Gaza? In search of an answer, TRT World spoke to Richard Falk, Professor of International Law Emeritus at Princeton University and former UN Special Rapporteur on Israeli Violations of Palestinian human rights.

Saudi Arabia condemns Israeli minister comment over Gaza nuclear 'option' | Arab News |

Saudi Arabia condemned in the strongest terms the extremist remarks by an Israeli government minister regarding dropping a nuclear bomb on the besieged Gaza Strip.

The kingdom's foreign ministry said such remarks show the penetration of "extremism and brutality among members of the Israeli government."

"Moreover, not dismissing the minister and only freezing his membership constitutes the utmost disregard for all human standards and values," it added.

On Sunday Heritage Minister Amichay Eliyahu was suspended from government meetings "until further notice" after suggesting in an interview dropping a nuclear bomb on Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said.

Eliyahu, an ultranationalist politician and part of Netnayahu's ruling coalition, told Israel's Kol Barama radio he was not entirely satisfied with the scale of Israel's retaliation after Hamas fighters carried out a deadly attack on Oct. 7 inside southern Israel.

When the interviewer asked whether the Israeli minister advocated dropping "some kind of atomic bomb" on the Gaza Strip "to kill everyone," Eliyahu replied: "That's one option."

Netanyahu's office quickly responded to the minister's remarks, issuing a statement in which it described them as "disconnected from reality," adding that Israel was trying to spare "non-combatants" in Gaza.

Blinken visits Iraq in bid to prevent Gaza spillover | Reuters |

After an earlier visit to the occupied West Bank, Blinken landed in Baghdad on Sunday evening for his first visit to the country as the US top diplomat and held talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al Sudani.

He said the United States was working hard to ensure that the conflict in Gaza does not spread.

Blinken said he had a good, candid conversation with the Iraq government and that US officials were working to secure a humanitarian pause in Gaza that would advance several priorities including getting more aid in and getting Hamas' hostages out.

Speaking to reporters after the unannounced stop in Baghdad, the US Secretary of State said there were now 100 trucks of aid moving into the besieged coastal enclave, but "It's grossly insufficient."

Washington wants to prevent a wider regional conflict and has stepped up diplomacy with regional countries whose populations have been angered by Israel's assault on Gaza.

Blinken landed at Baghdad's international airport, donned a ballistic vest and traveled by Black Hawk helicopter to the Green Zone, a remnant of the US occupation of Iraq after its 2003 invasion.

At the US ambassador's residence he was briefed on threats to US facilities, before heading to the Iraqi prime minister's office.

Later on Sunday, the US Secretary of State arrived in Ankara, according to a Reuters eyewitness, where he will hold talks with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan on Monday amid the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Protests were already underway in Turkiye ahead of Blinken's visit.

EU Ambassadors Conference 2023: Opening speech by High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell

And the problem is that today, we do not have any kind of agreement on the terms of the `sharing'. Or yes, we had [one] - remember, [the] Olso [Agreements] 30 years ago? Yes, we had [one]. But we have not implemented it at all. That is the problem.
And in the meantime the violence has increased, the figures are appalling, really - not just in the last terrific attack of Hamas against the Israelis and the answer from Israel. It is not just about it - from 2008 [to] 2023 before the 7th of last month, the number of wounded and casualties, it was really too much.

What has happened? Why have the Oslo Agreement not been implemented? Because the forces of denial in both camps have continued growing under the hubris of some and the desperation of others.

In Israel, the colonisation of the West Bank has been progressing with impunity and violence against the Palestinians - and this has become even more brutal after the 7th of October. Thirty years ago, there were 270,000 settlers in the West Bank. Now there are 700, 000, almost three [or] four times more.

In Palestine, the total lack of perspective and diabolic calculations aiming at favoring extremist forces have led to the marginalisation of moderate forces to the benefit of radical forces [inaudible].

Last year, in the West Bank, there were 154 Palestinians killed and 20 Israelis. This year, to date the number is almost 400, and the barbarism of Hamas' actions against Israeli civilians - which are absolutely unjustifiable and inexcusable - puts us in front of the paradox that, in recent years, we believed that the Israeli-Palestinian problem was to be circumvented, even if the situation on the ground was continuing to deteriorate, because of the Abraham Accords.

This illusion was shared by everyone, not just by us, by the West. [complete bulk$hit]

It was believed by many that the normalisation, the desirable normalisation of relations between the Arab States and Israel, would bring peace between Palestinians and Israelis. [unfit for his key position as the EU top diplomat]

That has not happened. It has not happened.

Even someone like Jack Sullivan said, before the 7th of October, that "the region has never been so calm for decades". Never been so calm for decades.

Israel-Sudan deal seen Friday as Trump orders Khartoum removed from terror list | TOI - 23 Oct. 2020 |

The move was initially announced by Sudan's ruling body, which called the step a "historic day for Sudan and its glorious revolution."

"President Donald J. Trump has informed Congress of his intent to formally rescind Sudan's designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism," the White House said. "Today represents a momentous step forward in the United States-Sudan bilateral relationship and marks a pivotal turning point for Sudan, allowing for a new future of collaboration and support for its ongoing and historic democratic transition,"

Trump announced his intention to sign the waiver on Monday, saying he would go through with the move after Sudan followed through on its pledge to deliver $335 million to compensate American victims of past terror attacks and their families. Sudan transferred the funds the next day.

The money is meant for victims of the 1998 bombings of US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania by the al-Qaeda network while its leader, Osama bin Laden, was living in Sudan.

Articles on the imperfect Abraham Accords ..

Bilateral agreement or one-sided decision: Abraham Accords a false peace | Shanghai Gov - 11 Oct 2023 |

Toward the end of Donald Trump's presidency, the US administration rolled out a "peace process" that they called the "Abraham Accords" in September 2020.

Driven by the Christian fundamentalist and Zionist Inhibitions of Mike Pompeo, as well as Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, the accords aimed to buy off states in the Middle East in exchange for securing recognition of Israel. This saw the United Arab Emirates, Sudan and Morocco all recognize Tel Aviv. An immediate geopolitical goal of the accords was an attempt to diplomatically isolate Iran, as well as other forces in the region which seek to resist Israeli occupation of Palestine.

However, the Abraham Accords were flawed for one significant reason. That being they offered a "one-sided" peace whereby Arab states simply recognized Israel without any change to the status quo or Israel's behavior in general.

This was an absurd premise given the same administration had made the unilateral decision to recognize occupied Jerusalem as Israel's capital, as well as continued occupation of and settlement building in the West Bank amongst numerous other things, in other words rewarding bad behavior. Ironically, it is well known in Western discourse that making a one-sided peace without any form of compromise or resistance constitutes
"appeasement."

And that's precisely what the Abraham Accords were, appeasement. A true and lasting peace is when both sides engage in a mutually acceptable compromise to avert conflict which takes into consideration their respective national interests. But the Abraham Accords did no such thing, because Israel was not required to make any compromises and nor were the Palestinians by any stretch even part of the negotiations.

Rather, the US used unilateral diplomacy to buy off the participating governments, appealing to their individual motives. For example, recognizing Morocco's annexation of the Western Sahara. Thus, rather than serving the true interests of peace, the accords only increased the sense of injustice pertaining to Palestinians.

And it is for that reason that the Accords have acted as a profoundly destabilizing force that have directly contributed to the outbreak of hostilities between Israel and the Gaza strip. It should be noted on analyzing this that the term "unprovoked," as wielded by Western politicians, is inherently misleading, because such a term seeks to imply that the status quo was in any way, politically tenable or stable. The US had attempted to impose diplomatic isolation on Palestine while Israel continued its routine provocations and attacks against the West Bank, emboldened by a hardline Benjamin Netanyahu administration which had recently returned to power.

The United States in general has a diplomatic strategy of subtly "moving the goalposts" while in effect claiming to support a peaceful status quo, even as its own actions are in effect undermining that "status quo." The US will repeatedly claim in doing so that it is committed to diplomacy, but refuses to move on its position. This usually results in forcing the other party into a corner, leading to military action as a perceived last resort. The US then brands that party as the aggressor and pretends the outcome is "unprovoked."
