The Ominous Threat of A Zionist Israel

Gaza War and Threat of Regional War | Tikun Olam |

Israel fights seven-front battle against Axis of Resistance

Gallant has boasted that Israel faces a seven-front war with Hamas, Syria, Hezbollah, Iraqi militia, Iran Houthis, and in the West Bank.  Rather than boast, it behooves Israeli leaders to consider the potential consequences of a united Axis of Resistance confronting it in multiple theaters of operation. Though its military capabilities may be limited compared to Israel's-that can change quickly. Iranian military technology has grown by leaps and bounds. With its highly skilled engineers, they will continue perfecting its weapons arsenal-not to mention its nuclear capability. Neither Gallant nor most Israelis appear to be devoting any consideration to this potential danger.

The IDF and Hezbollah have been probing each other, preparing for a potentially larger conflict. The Lebanese militia is far and away Israel's most powerful front-line enemy. As Iran's key ally in the region, it plays a key role in implementing any strategy of the Axis of Resistance. It possesses nearly 100,000 missiles pointed at Israel and has a fighting force of 25,000 active duty fighers and the same amount of reservists. It is a formidable opponent.

That's why the Biden administration reacted with alarm to Iranian threats to intervene in the Gaza conflict.  As a result, it sent not one, but two aircraft carriers to show the flag and warn Hezbollah and that the US would not permit attacks on Israel. It worked, in a sense, as most of the attacks by Hamas allies have been carefully calibrated to show resistance without provoking a wider conflict. But that could easily change.

Looming Poll Defeat: Netanyahu Holding On to Power

Poll points to Gantz building lead over Netanyahu; ultra-nationalists, Orthodox bloc falls to 45 seats

Benny Gantz's National Unity party continues to build on its lead over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud, according to a poll published by Channel 13.

The survey finds that if elections were held today, National Unity would win 38 seats, trouncing Likud, which would win just 16 seats.

Opposition chairman Yair Lapid's Yesh Atid party would fall to 15 seats; ultra-Orthodox Shas party would receive nine seats; far-right Otzma Yehudit party would receive eight seats; right-wing, secular Yisrael Beytenu party would receive eight seats; ultra-Orthodox United Torah Judaism party would receive seven seats; Islamist Ra'am party would receive six seats; far-right Religious Zionism party would receive five seats; left-wing Meretz party would receive four seats; and Arab-majority Hadash-Ta'al party would receive four seats.

The left-leaning Labor party and the ultra-nationalist Balad party would not cross the electoral threshold, the poll finds.

The hardline coalition Netanyahu formed one year ago would receive 45 seats compared to the anti-Netanyahu bloc, which would receive 71 seats, not including the four seats from Hadash-Ta'al.

Understanding the ominous rise of Israel's most notorious ultra-nationalist | TOI - 4 Aug. 2022 |

With a poll giving Religious Zionism 13 seats if headed by extremist Itamar Ben Gvir, a look at where these votes are coming from and what they say about where Israel may be headed

If you are a politician looking to bolster your man-of-the-people bona fides ahead of an election, you head to Jerusalem's Mahane Yehuda market to gladhand the shoppers and hawkers bustling about its stalls and alleyways.

The crowd chanted his name and sang a lively ditty about Ben Gvir being the next prime minister. Numerous market patrons hugged, shook hands, and requested selfies with the far-right leader.

Mahane Yehuda is a well-known bastion of right-wing sentiment, but until recently, a visit by Ben Gvir, 46, would have been little more than a minor curiosity.

But just over a year after squeaking into the Knesset as part of Bezalel Smotrich's far-right Religious Zionism alliance, polls show Ben Gvir leading the party to a commanding Knesset position. It's only on the street, or in the shuk, though, that those numbers become real, each selfie a sign of how far to the right Israel's political pendulum appears to have swung.

A serial provocateur

Most Israelis were first introduced to Ben Gvir in 1995, when the 19-year-old extremist youth leader infamously ripped the Cadillac insignia from prime minister Yitzhak Rabin's car. Showing off the booty, Ben Gvir boasted to a news camera: "We got the car. We'll get to Rabin too."

Weeks later, Rabin was assassinated by a right-wing extremist.

A lawyer who has made a career out of defending other right-wing extremists, Ben Gvir grew up in a religiously traditional but not strictly observant family in the middle-class town of Mevaseret Zion.

In his maiden speech in Knesset last year, Ben Gvir outlined how his right-wing views began developing during his youth amid the First Intifada. He became a fervent opponent of the Oslo Accords and after high school studied at the Yeshiva of the Jewish Idea established by Kahane.

The article also quoted Elisha Yered, a militant Israeli squatter who is under house arrest on suspicion of murdering a Palestinian last August, as saying, "A good time to point out that spitting near priests or churches is an ancient Jewish custom . . .

Perhaps under the influence of Western culture we have forgotten to some extent what Christianity is, but I believe that the millions of Jews who, while in exile, suffered through the Crusades, the tortures of the Inquisition, blood libel and mass violence will never forget." Yered is the former spokesman for a member of the Israeli parliament who belongs to Ben-Gvir's fascist "Jewish Power" party.

PM nixes war cabinet meeting on post-war Gaza plan amid pressure from Smotrich | TOI |

Talks to be held in security cabinet instead, after far-right factions protest exclusion from discussion; Smotrich to Biden: "Not a single shekel will go to the 'Nazi terrorists'"

Netanyahu has refused to hold any such meetings until now, reportedly because he does not want to reveal the expected role that Palestinian Authority officials will have in managing Gaza's civil affairs after the war.

The delay has frustrated the Biden administration, which argues that failure to plan for who will govern Gaza after the war could lead to the Israel Defense Forces being bogged down in the enclave indefinitely.

Netanyahu caught bragging in leaked video from 2001

I am afraid you are spot on!

The single target at the moment for Israel and the U.S. is of course the Islamic Republic of Iran ... Grossi had warned that Tehran already had enough nuclear material for "several" weapons.

Iran sentences five prisoners to death on `espionage for Israel' | Kurdistan HR NGO - 22 March 2023 |

The Branch Three of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh has sentenced civilians Nasim Namazi, Vafa Hanareh, Aram Omari Berdiani, Rahman Parhazou and Mansour Rasouli to death on charges of "participation in intelligence cooperation and espionage for Israel" over the past few weeks.

The court also sentenced five other civilians, Kamran Hanareh, Fakhroddin Doudkanlou Milan, Ashkan Osmannezhad Ganduk, Hassan Omarpour, and Amir Moshtagh Gangachin, to ten years in prison on the same charge.

"The ten civilians that come from Orumiyeh [West Azerbaijan Province Iran],  were arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence in Orumiyeh over a period of several months, between the fall of 2021 and early 2022, and were physically tortured for months in solitary cells of the ministry on the accusation of `participation in intelligence cooperation and espionage for Israel'", an informed source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

Forced to "confess" under "torture and threats to detain and rape their family members", they denied all allegations of the security agencies during their trial, saying that they were "tortured" during their interrogation, the source said.

According to the source, "Mansour Rasouli, was a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Orumiyeh. Last year, the media outlets of the Islamic Republic of Iran reported that a Mossad-affiliated group kidnapped him in Iran and published his confessions".

Iran executes 4 members of "Israeli-linked sabotage team": report | Xinhua News |

Iran on Friday executed four main members of an "Israeli-linked sabotage team" convicted of having committed "extensive actions against the country's security," the Mizan news agency of the Iranian judiciary reported.

The convicts, identified as three men -- ringleader Vafa Hanareh, Aram Omri and Rahman Parhazou -- and a woman, named Nasim Namazi, were executed in the northwestern Iranian province of West Azerbaijan after undergoing legal procedures, the report said.

According to Mizan, the convicts "were in direct contact with Israel's Mossad intelligence service through video calls," and had perpetrated acts of sabotage in the provinces of West Azarbaijan, Tehran and Hormozgan.

The report said the individuals had received money from Israel in return for the missions they had carried out.

It added that they were part of a 10-member Israeli-linked group, whose main objective was to "identify Iranian intelligence agents who were foiling Israeli plots against Iran," according to the report.

The arrest of other six members of the group was announced in October last year, with each receiving a 10-year jail sentence charged with being in contact with Israel to compromise Iran's security, said the report.

'Blood libel': Israel slams South Africa for filing ICJ genocide motion over Gaza war | TOI |

Pretoria urges order declaring Israel in breach of 1948 Genocide Convention; Jerusalem accuses South Africa of `collaborating with terror group' that calls for Israel's destruction

Israel castigated South Africa on Friday for turning to the International Court of Justice with an urgent order declaring that Jerusalem was violating its obligations under the 1948 Genocide Convention in its war against Palestinian terror group Hamas following its murderous October 7 onslaught.

Israel said Pretoria's accusations were "baseless "and a "blood libel."

In response, Israel said it rejected "with contempt the blood libel by South Africa in its application to the International Court of Justice (ICJ)."

[...]

In its motion to the ICJ, South Africa asked the court to issue provisional, or short-term, measures ordering Israel to stop its military campaign in Gaza, which it said were "necessary in this case to protect against further, severe and irreparable harm to the rights of the Palestinian people."

The Foreign Ministry said: "Israel has made it clear that the residents of the Gaza Strip are not the enemy, and is making every effort to limit harm to the non-involved and to allow humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip."

The court application is the latest move by South Africa, a vociferous critic of Israel, to ratchet up pressure after its lawmakers last month voted in favor of closing down the Israeli embassy in Pretoria and suspending all diplomatic relations until a ceasefire was reached in the war. These moves have not yet been finalized.

In a statement from South Africa's Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), the government said the application against Israel was filed on Friday.

South Africa Accuses Israel of Genocide in Case at UN Court | VOA |

South Africa launched a case Friday at the United Nations' top court accusing Israel of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and asking the court to order Israel to halt its attacks.

It also asks the Hague-based court to issue an interim order for Israel to immediately suspend its military operations in Gaza.

South Africa can bring the case under the Genocide Convention because both it and Israel are signatories to the convention.

Israel orders tens of thousands of 155mm artillery shells from Elbit | Defense News - 4 Aug. 2023 |

Israel has ordered tens of thousands of 155mm artillery shells through a $60 million contract with Elbit Systems amid tension on the country's northern border.

The government and the company this week announced the deal for the M107-A3 projectiles for the Israel Defense Forces' artillery corps. The order follows a move by the U.S. to withdraw 300,000 shells stored in the country to transfer them to Ukraine, according to a January report in The New York Times. Israel had an agreement with the U.S. under which the former could use the ammunition for military campaigns.

The erroneous geography comes from the CNN journalist who has been most insistent that the chant "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free" is anti-Semitic.

Now, she makes the claim on her own, ascribing anti-Semitism to millions of advocates for equal rights between the river and the sea, including Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib.

Cease-fire Deal? Clinton On ME Peace Mission, Meeting Netanyahu [Update] | Posted @BooMan on Nov 20, 2012 |

This afternoon IDF dropped leaflets over large area from Gaza City suburbs to the border with Israel. The leaflets warn all residents to move out as they are in a mortal danger zone in coming hours expecting aerial bombing from the air, sea and land.

"The Bible finds no worse image than this of the man from the desert. And why? Because he has no respect for any law. Because in the desert he can do as he pleases. The tendency towards conflict is in the essence of the Arab. He is an enemy by essence. His personality won't allow him any compromise or agreement. It doesn't matter what kind of resistance he will meet, what price he will pay. His existence is one of perpetual war. Israel's must be the same. The two states solution doesn't exist; there are no two people here. There is a Jewish people and an Arab population... there is no Palestinian people, so you don't create a state for an imaginary nation... they only call themselves a people in order to fight the Jews." - Benjamin Netanyahu

Received Wisdom? How the Ideology of Netanyahu's Late Father Influenced the Son | May 2012 |

A historian of Jews in medieval Spain, the elder Netanyahu spent most of his academic career in the United States--supposedly because his political views were out of fashion among the leftist Israeli intelligentsia of the 1950s and '60s. But in recent decades Israeli politics came to be dominated by the Likud, the party founded on the philosophy of Vladimir (Ze'ev) Jabotinksy, the man Benzion Netanyahu went to America to serve as secretary, and whose vision he carried on after Jabotinsky's death.

The ideology called for a "Greater Israel" that stretched across not only the West Bank but even across what is today Jordan,  land regarded as promised to the Jews in the view of Revisionist Zionism, as the movement was known. It was a robust, even militaristic movement that called for an "iron wall" between the newly founded state and the Arabs surrounding it.

Family of key case in New York Times October 7 sexual violence report renounces story, says reporters manipulated them | Mondoweiss |

A New York Times story claiming a pattern of gender-based violence on October 7 hinged on the story of Gal Abdush. But the Abdush family says there is no proof she was raped, and that Times reporters interviewed them under false pretenses.

The story itself repeats October 7 testimonies that have been previously published and already debunked and discredited, but The Times investigation hinges predominantly on one central story, the story of the rape of "Gal Abdush," who is described by the Times as "The Woman in the Black Dress."

Although claiming its story proves that "the attacks against women were not isolated events but part of a broader pattern of gender-based violence on Oct. 7" the veracity of The New York Times story was undermined almost as soon as it was published, including from the Abdush family itself who says there is no proof Gal Abdush was raped and that the New York Times interviewed them under false pretenses.

Western Media Fails Gaza Again

New York Times claimed in its story that Hamas fighters raped an Israeli woman, Gal Abdush, in October 2023. However, the woman's family members have refuted these claims and said that they were interviewed under false pretenses

Hamas beheading babies, confiscating humanitarian aid of Palestinians and the latest of such claims - that Hamas fighters engaged in systematic rape and sexual violence against Israeli women - are often used to dehumanise all Palestinians and justify the ongoing war on them that has taken more than 21,000 lives.

None of the aforementioned claims have been proven so far but western media outlets often begin their coverage with these narratives, without referring to the larger historical context of Israel's oppression of Palestine for decades - and without checking the veracity of the claims.
