BRICS Currency vs US Dollar: Is the end of Dollar dominance near? | Business Africa |

Brazil's Finance Minister Fernando Haddad, who's accompanying Lula in his trip to China, said local currencies are already used in bilateral trade through instruments such as credit receipts. The goal, he added, is to expand mechanisms that allow trade operations to be settled without the intermediation of a third currency.

"The advantage is to avoid the straitjacket imposed by necessarily having trade operations settled in a currency of a country not involved in the transaction," he told reporters in Shanghai.

Lula Backs BRICS Currency to Replace Dollar in Foreign Trade | Bloomberg |

Brazil's Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva called on BRICS nations to come up with an alternative to replace the dollar in foreign trade, supporting China's crusade against US global dominance just as he prepares to meet with President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

Lula's remarks were made on Thursday during a visit to the Shanghai-based New Development Bank, an institution created by BRICS countries, which, along with Brazil and China, include Russia, India and South Africa. Former Brazil President Dilma Rousseff is the bank's new chief executive.

From my diary in June 2021 as dark storm ⛈ clouds 🌪 were seen on the horizon. Never thought those angry clouds would bring war to Europe. I was too positive about U.S. leadership 🇺🇸 vs Europe 🇪🇺.

America would be wise to tidy up a bit at home before spreading their form of democracy attached to slavery of the laborers and depletion of natural resources in third world countries.

Biden's 'Multilateralism' Amounts To AmericaFirst!! | Mar 25th, 2021 |

A new face, a bit of adjustment in packaging the act. On Defense and Security, NATO and the EU preemptively complied with the wishes of the new Biden administration ... wishful thinking there will be reciprocity. 🤥 🤥

Work in progress ... ⚠️

... At the hotel, Lula met with Dilma again. He is taking part in his Workers' Party colleague's inauguration at the head of the New Development Bank (NDB), better known as BRICS Bank, Thursday 13 April). Surrounded by reporters and cameras, the former president avoided talking about the bank, promising news for the interview the next day.

Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó ejected from Colombia | The Guardian |

Guaidó lands in Miami after failed bid to attend summit hosted by leftwing president, with return to Venezuela looking unlikely

Venezuela's best-known opposition leader, Juan Guaidó, has touched down in the United States after being unceremoniously ejected from Colombia while attempting to gatecrash a summit about the political future of his crisis-stricken homeland.

Guaidó shot to fame in early 2019 and for a brief moment looked poised to topple Venezuela's authoritarian leader, Nicolás Maduro, with the support of dozens of foreign governments including the US, UK and Brazil.

The Bank of England, claiming to act independently of the Foreign Office, had refused to release the $1.8bn worth of gold. It cited a British government decision in early 2019 to join dozens of nations in backing Guaidó on the basis that Maduro's election victory the previous year was rigged.

But four years later the 39-year-old's star has waned dramatically as a result of his failure to unseat Hugo Chávez's political heir. Maduro has crushed street protests and consolidated power. Most of the international community has abandoned Guaidó's parallel "presidency" and "interim government".

And key regional powers such as Colombia and Brazil have elected leftist leaders who have revived ties with Maduro's administration and condemned Guaidó's attempt to bring it down by using foreign pressure to spark a military uprising.

US and election rigging in Venezuela ...

E-Vote Rigging in Venezuela? | Wired - Aug. 23, 2004 |

The Carter Center, which observed the election and a post-election audit, concluded in a report that the results "reflect the will of the Venezuelan people."

The $112-million optical-scan machines the country had been using were made by Nebraska-based Diebold's Election Systems and Software. The machines malfunctioned so badly on Election Day in 2001 that the government sent an air force jet to Nebraska to fetch ES&S technicians to fix them.

Nothing to Worry. All your votes will be counted by Diebold

President Petro Opens International Conference on Venezuela, Participants Agree to Fast-Track Release of Frozen Funds

euractiv is trying to hide EEAS appearance at the conference behind a happy-face paywall. The EC is dodging Green Party opposition and the "side-letter" added on the DL this March to Bolsenaro's 2019 EU-Mercosur deal, while Lula leisurely works bi-lateral angles with the usual Iberian suspects. To judge by Mercosur Press, he's likely to leave them hanging at the CELAC summit.
