Israel Hacked Russian Intelligence, Helped Trump Get Elected | Tikun Olam |

IDF Unit 8200 hacked Russian intelligence and relayed Clinton-DNC e mails to Trump, helping him win the presidency

James Bamford, one of America's leading cyber-intelligence experts, published The Trump Campaign's Collusion With Israel in The Nation, offering a startling expose on the 2016 election and Israel's role in helping Trump win it.  The starting point for his report is a 2018 FBI filing which reveals secret contacts Roger Stone had with one of Bibi Netanyahu's most trusted aides.  This included meetings with Stone, at which the aide brought an IDF general to emphasize the importance of the intelligence the Israelis were offering Trump.

Netanyahu's fixer, whom Bamford calls a "secret agent," was Isaac Molho. He is an Israeli private attorney, related to Netanyahu by marriage. In 2017, Molho and his law partner, David Shimron, were accused of accepting a massive bribe for their roles in negotiating a multi-billion deal for German nuclear-armed Dophin submarines.  The prime minister assigned his most secret assignments to Molho and trusted him completely.  He has negotiated with Yasser Arafat, arranged the prisoner exchange for Gilad Shalit, and traveled to Arab countries for similar purposes.  Though Ron Dermer was sometimes described as Bibi's Brain, Molho was something like Bibi's doppelganger. He performed the critical tasks which Bibi can't do for reasons of state.

TheIDF SIGINT Unit 8200 had, according to Bamford, hacked Russian intelligence.  The latter, in turn, had hacked into the e-mail servers of both the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee.  The thousands of e-mails it eventually released, caused enormous damage to the reputation of the DNC and the resignation of one of Clinton's closest aides, Tony Podesta.  But even more importantly, the scandal offered a fatal blow to the Clinton campaign.

My comment @TikunOlam ...

Excellent stuff Richard, thanks.

From early 2017 I used the term IntelliGate instead of "RussiaGate" as the manipulation and propaganda has been clear to me from the get go. Easier to observe and write about this from the old country as I got mostly abuse on a "Progressive" blog in the U.S. Don't touch HRC and her backers!

The PropOrNot and Hamilton 68 club was led by the military-intelligence crowd that took sides and supported the Democrats ahead of the 2016 election.

Not only Israel, but the UAE and Saudi Arabia threw their support by anyone other than a Democrat due to the JCPOA deal with Iran signed off by Obama. Russia never ceases to antagonize Western nations by disinformation and hacking.

International Coalition to Defeat Democrats and Hillary in 2016 | July 8th, 2018 |

During the past two years, I have written many diaries on all topics listed below. There was an overwhelming opposition to a liberal, progressive agenda. The Conservatives have built their alliance over decades from the 1964 loss of Barry Goldwater, the Reagan years and the "dreadful" Clinton years. In the election campaign of 2016 all those forces came together with all their might with a Trump presidency as a result. Special attention for Netanyahu and Israel. Their collusion remains for some in the shadow, for me it's as clear as blue skies: Netanyahu got his revenge on the Obama administration and the JCPOA deal with Iran. You will hear more about the "former" Mossad agents in the Black Cube intelligence enterprise. All attention of the Trump team has been to reward Israel for its support in getting him elected. Busy job for Jared Kushner and his corrupt financial backers with Israeli citizenship.

What a bullshit ... the BIG liar during the Obama years. Just like Madeleine Albright, I find their reviews and judgements looking back just plain disgusting. They should have shown leadership and foresight ... they did NOT!

Role played by James Clapper ... backtracking on "dodgy" dossier: "Only heard of the Steele dossier with allegations in mid-December 2016. We had nothing to do with it, it was not our intelligence." The "dodgy" dossier had already been leaked to the FBI by August 2016, to fellow MI6 spooks and the right-wing Republicans headed by John McCain and his "intelligence" goons. What a bloody farce. No, Clapper had not seen a smoking gun of collusion between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin by the time he left his role by the DNI.

Nice! Congratulaions.

I'd keep an eye out for Türkiyesh interference as well.  The Erdogan government was very cozy with General Flynn.

Michael T. Flynn, the retired head of the Pentagon's Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), confirmed that White House officials made a "willful decision" to support al-Qaeda affiliated jihadists in Syria -- despite being warned by the DIA that doing so would likely create an 'ISIS'-like entity in the region.

VP Joe Biden made a strong statement blaming Saudi Arabia for funding jihadists in the Levant - ISIL. At the same moment Biden was signing large contracts with Qatar,I defense minister for fighter planes and military arms. Each and every US President stood side-by-side by the people of Israel in time of need (war and hostilities). In the 1960s there was solidarity of Jewish organizations with African Americans and the Civil Rights Movement. I recall Lyndon Johnson had a strong envoy for liaison wit Israel ahead of the 1967 War. The attack on the USS Liberty, an intelligence gathering ship offshore from the Sinai coast was brutal, reckless and a ruthless crime. Global power play in the Middle East with Soviet influence in Egypt was a major factor in setting US foreign policy. America repeatedly picked the short straw and paid dearly. The Baghdad Pact and Cento was a gross failure. The influence gained by Russia in Syria and China 🇨🇳 with Iran and Saudi Arabia represents a major shift in alliances in this decade. Nothing lasts forever, but the Abraham Accords appears short lived.

"a startling expose"? Well, sort of. Bamford adds a lot of background, detail, and color, but the FBI affidavit he relies on for the basic facts was the subject of an extensive story in the Times of Israel when it was first disclosed in 2020 -- Redacted FBI document hints at Israeli efforts to help Trump in 2016 campaign " - that triggered follow-up reports on Mondoweiss , IsraelPalestineNews, and other "alternative" outlets. There was even an hour-long discussion of the story on a small Marin County radio station.

Of course, the corporate media wouldn't touch it, just as they still won't. But Bamford and The Nation deserve some credit for trying again to bring it some attention.

Please read my overview in an article from 2017 and see if there is any aspect unknown to you. 😉

From BooMan Tribune, a "progressive" blog

Dutch Cooperated with Sergei Mikhailov (FSB) |  Dec 30, 2017 |

The cooperation with the Russians dates back to September 2007, when the head of THTC attended a conference in the Russian city of Khabarovsk, at which CIA, FBI, Mossad, BND and other agencies were present. The head of THTC was able to create a connection to the FSB and their deputy head of the Center for Information Security (TsIB), Sergei Mikhailov, became the liaison for the Dutch police and would regularly visit the Netherlands.

Since 2009, regular meetings are held in the Netherlands, in which also officials from the FBI participate. The aim is to cooperate in tracking down and eventually arresting cyber criminals. The Americans were caught hacking the lap tops of participants.

DPI filtering

To acquire these ICQ communications, the police had decided to intercept all ICQ traffic from Russia that went through the Leaseweb servers. For that purpose they bought equipment for deep-packet inspection (DPI) worth 600.000,- euro.

DPI devices are able to examine the packets that make up internet traffic and filter them according to predefined criteria, usually to prevent viruses and spam, but in this case for intercepting communications.

Russian ex-cyber security chief gets 22-year sentence for treason | NBC News - Feb. 26, 2019 |

This sentencing follows a top-secret case accusing the ex-official of passing along information to an American cybercrime analyst.

A court in Moscow on Tuesday sentenced a senior Russian cyber intelligence official and an executive at a cybersecurity firm to lengthy prison sentences on treason charges.

Moscow's District Military Court, which has been hearing the top-secret case for nearly two years behind closed doors, sentenced Col. Sergei Mikhailov, former deputy head of the FSB's Information Security Center, to 22 years in prison and a fine.

It also sentenced Ruslan Stoyanov an executive at the Kaspersky Lab cybersecurity firm, to 14 years in prison and a fine.

The two men listened to the sentencing from inside a glass cage, flanked by masked men.

Mikhailov was also stripped of his colonel's rank and military decorations which included the elite "For Services to the Fatherland."

Details of the case remain murky. Some suggested that the arrest was linked to the Russian hacking of the 2016 U.S. presidential election and a hunt for a possible mole who tipped off U.S. intelligence agencies about Russian interference. Later reports indicated that Mikhailov was prosecuted for passing on details about an unrelated case to an American cybercrime analyst.

Several Russian media outlets including Kommersant reported that the case centers on accusations that Mikhailov contacted Stoyanov to pass confidential information from a probe into activities of Ukrainian, Israeli, Russian businessmen Pavel Vrublevsky to a cybercrime analyst with alleged ties to the FBI.

'Spam Nation' Villain Vrublevsky Charged With Fraud | Krebs Security - March 22, 2022 |

Russian banks are prohibited from processing payments for online gambling, and as a result many online gaming sites catering to Russian speakers have chosen to process credit card payments through Ukrainian financial institutions.

That's according to Vladislav "BadB Horohorin, an Israel citizen, the convicted cybercriminal who shared the ChronoPay Confluence data with KrebsOnSecurity. In February 2017, Horohorin was released after serving four years in a U.S. prison for his role in the 2009 theft of more than $9 million from RBS Worldpay.

Horohorin said Vrublevsky has been using his knowledge of the card processing networks to extort people in the online gambling industry who may run afoul of Russian laws.

FBI agent who drafted Trump-Alfa Bank report says he `learned' of typo during meeting with feds | Courthouse News - May 24, 2022 |

A 16-year veteran of the FBI told a federal jury in Washington that he may have "conflated" the terms "DOJ" and "DNC" in the bureau's report on its probe into the Trump-Alfa Bank allegations. 😂

A longtime FBI agent testified in the Michael Sussmann trial that he took a back seat in the bureau's investigation of the 2016 Trump-Alfa Bank claims so that a probationary agent could learn the ropes.

The investigation is part of what led Special Counsel John Durham to look into the FBI's handling of the 2016 "Crossfire Hurricane" probe into Trump-Russia collusion, which prompted Sussmann's indictment last September for allegedly falsely stating that he was not representing any clients when he met with the FBI's top lawyer in 2016 and provided him with data files supposedly containing evidence of secret communications between Russia's Alfa Bank and then-presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Curtis Heide - who revealed on the witness stand that the FBI is currently investigating him for allegedly withholding exculpatory information in the Crossfire Hurricane probe - said he approached Allison Sands and let her take the lead on the case because he wanted to train her on how to open an investigation.

But Sussmann's defense attorney Sean Berkowitz pointed out that their report -- which states that the Trump-Alfa Bank investigation referral came from the Department of Justice (DOJ) -- had a "typo."

In the year 2012, the Obama administration intervened to block a bombing raid on Iran by Israel under leadership of Netanyahu. My impression is that Israel with a more fascist leadership intended to strike Iranian nuclear facilities. The diplomatic effort by China to ease tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran made Netanyahu to rethink the possible consequences.

Democratic defender of NSA spying was wiretapped in Israeli spy probe | WSWS by Bill Van Auken - Apr. 22, 2009 |

Democratic Congresswoman Jane Harman of California was recorded in 2005 on a National Security Agency (NSA) wiretap of a suspected Israeli intelligence agent, according to current and former government officials cited in press reports. The recorded conversation, they indicated, dealt with an apparent quid pro quo arrangement involving Harman's promise to seek leniency for two indicted pro-Israeli lobbyists in return for support for her bid to become chair of the House Intelligence Committee.

The revelation has further exposed the internecine struggles within the US state apparatus as well as the intimate involvement of the Democratic Party and the media in the assault on democratic rights.

According to the story first broken by the Congressional Quarterly web site, Harman, at the time the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, was recorded in a discussion with the suspected Israeli agent in which she agreed to intercede on behalf of two officials of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), Steve Rosen, the group's foreign policy director, and Keith Weissman, its senior Middle East analyst.

The two were indicted in 2005 on espionage-related charges stemming from their receiving secret documents dealing with US policy towards Iran from Lawrence Franklin, the Pentagon's top Iran analyst. Franklin pleaded guilty for his role in the affair and was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

According to national security officials who spoke on condition of anonymity to Jeff Stein of the Congressional Quarterly, the transcript of the recording shows Harman telling the suspected Israeli agent that she would "waddle into" the AIPAC case "if you think it'll make a difference."

The New York Times, which also spoke to three officials familiar with the transcript, said that the suspected agent asked Harman to intervene with the Justice Department, and she responded that "she would have more influence with a White House official she did not identify."

The Times reported that the suspected agent promised to reciprocate by inducing the Israeli-American media mogul Haim Saban, a major contributor to the Democratic Party, to threaten to withhold contributions from California Democratic Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, who at the time was slated to become House speaker, unless she tapped Harman to head the intelligence panel. Such a deal would amount to illegal influence peddling to a foreign agent, and the Justice Department initiated an investigation.

Spying on Friends?: The Franklin Case, AIPAC, and Israel

In May 2009, federal prosecutors dropped the charges against Rosen and Weissman, citing that restrictions the judge had placed on the case made a conviction unlikely.

On June 11, prosecutors asked Judge Ellis to reduce Franklin's sentence to eight years for his cooperation. Judge Ellis said the dropping of the case against Rosen and Weissman was a "significant" factor in the sentencing of Franklin and sentenced him to ten months house arrest along with 100 hours of community service. Ellis said Franklin's community service should consist of "speaking to young people about the importance of public officials obeying the law".

Whistleblower Protection Under U.S. Constitution In 1778 | Aug 5, 2013 |

On July 30, 1778, the Continental Congress created the first whistleblower protection law, stating "that it is the duty of all persons in the service of the United States to give the earliest information to Congress or other proper authority of any misconduct, frauds, or misdemeanors committed by any officers or persons in the service of these states."

Lapdogs, Watchdogs, and Scapegoats: The Press and National Security Information

In the United States, the executive branch possesses virtually unbridled authority to keep national security information from the public. Although the Freedom of Information Act and whistleblower protection laws serve as some check on the executive's power, these tools remain largely ineffectual. Because the desire for tight information control competes with the demands of newsgathering, a "game of leaks" has developed among government officials and reporters in which the press alternatively serves as lapdogs, watchdogs, and scapegoats for the executive branch.

This Article demonstrates that the government has been communicating information to the public through leaks ever since the administration of President Theodore Roosevelt. Legal developments in the current climate, including the ongoing prosecution of two lobbyists for violations of the Espionage Act in the American- Israeli Public Affairs Committee case, have the potential to establish precedents that could impose dire consequences upon this crucial information flow. This Article scrutinizes the constitutionality of prosecuting nongovernmental parties for the publication of classified information by examining the long and complicated history of the relationship between the press and the executive branch, and the role leaks play in the dissemination of classified information to the public today.

After examining the relationship between the press and the executive branch, as well as tracing the development of the reasoning behind the applicable First Amendment doctrine, this Article ultimately argues that in any prosecution against a nongovernmental actor for disseminating national security information, the government must demonstrate not only that the disclosure posed an immediate, serious, and direct threat to national security, but also that the offender either intended the disclosure to harm the United States or help a foreign nation, or that the offender was recklessly indifferent to the harm that the disclosure would cause. Given that the executive branch has so much power to control the dissemination of national security information to the public, and itself leaks information to support its agenda, its power to punish the publication of leaks must be extremely limited. An intent requirement is consistent with the Supreme Court's free speech jurisprudence and helps achieve this goal.

As privacy concern is rising, data collection has outpaced the willingnesses of government to adhere by (international) agreements and domestic legislation.
