Russian shot up tank on Leidseplein evokes many different emotions | AT5 Local News |

A Russian tank has been standing on Leidseplein since today, which was destroyed by Ukrainian soldiers last year. Debate center De Balie wants to stimulate the conversation about democracy and how fragile it is. Although many passers-by find the tank impressive, not everyone is happy with it.

*Head of De Balie Youri Albrecht is part of Bellingcat leadership recently located in Amsterdam. Bellingcat is seen as NATO affiliated and empowered by the Atlantic Council.

Militarism in Dutch Square Amsterdam

People are confronted daily with arms to Ukraine to confront the Russians ... boring and very tiresome. Look how your tax dollars are spend and what is returned as evidence.

NRC Opinion columnist

Confusing moment at the Russian tank on display at Leidseplein. I'm talking with Yoeri Albrecht of renowned debate center De Balie, who brought over the shot-up army vehicle, when he is suddenly filmed and a boy, with a shaved head, holds out a black microphone to him.

"How do you feel about suppressing the opposition in Ukraine?"

The conversation, for YouTube channel Left Laser, turns teasing, teasing, sucking. Albrecht does his best at first, but then has had enough of the bullying, crosses the tram rails, and there he suddenly finds himself in a brief fight. Microphone falls between the rail. Albrecht snatches it up, holds it behind his back, puts his other arm around the boy, in a vain attempt to appease him, walks past the terrace of De Balie, where a group with protest signs chants: "Warmonger, warmonger!"

Yes, he's stirring things up, that Russian tank, captured by Ukrainian soldiers in Dmytrivka last year. In this entertainment center the war was something abstract, but here it is. Inescapable. And we have to relate to it. Tank wheel tracks collapsed, the clumps of grass from the front still attached. The vehicle is on tour. Earlier, in Berlin and Groesbeek, there was also a lot of fuss about it.

Is it a trophy? "Some see it that way, like Asterix and Obelix collecting the helmets of the Roman army," says Albrecht. But to him it symbolizes the fragility of democracy. "My mother was in a resistance group, and I always wondered who were the ones who stood up for such a dictator in the East."

The essence of freedom and democracy is the debate and freedom of expression ... WTF ... 90% of Dutch living in an echo chamber. Dangerous times .. piece of war propaganda coming home ... stop this stupid war ☮️ ;#YouAreNato

Museum Groesbeek Exposes UA War Trophy

The Russian tank that has been standing in front of the building of the Freedom Museum in Groesbeek has been daubed with the letter Z. The pro-Russian symbol was sprayed on the tank with white paint this afternoon.

The 44-ton T-72B has been standing in the parking lot of the Freedom Museum since Friday, together with a bullet-riddled Ukrainian ambulance. The tank was captured by the Ukrainian army in March last year after it ran into a French mine during a Russian attack on Kyiv and was badly damaged.

Don't conflate the war of choice 🇺🇦 due to aggression from two sides 🇺🇸 🇷🇺, as a battle for our freedom ⁉️ We are not fighting against Nazi fascism of Mussolini and Hitler. Ukraine is NOT fighting for our democracy. Stop the bull$hit war propaganda now. End the bloodshed and stop the "Hollywood" drama performances of Zelenskyy & company. Guarantee safety of wounded soldiers, POWs and prevent summary executions.

Brutal war propaganda supported by opportunistic leader VVD party and Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

Today, Thursday May 4th is the Commemoration of heroes and war deaths, especially the citizens killed during the German occupation 1940-45 and the Jewish population arrested, transported through Westerbork to extermination camps of Hitler Nazi terror and genocide.

Most camps were on Ukrainian territory, Poland and Eastern Germany. Soviet prisoners of war too were slaughtered as sheep.

Display:
Stan Houcke, journalist, warns of warmongering and the war profiteers ... the Amsterdam mayor does its citizens no favor, tragically. No debate, but feeding hate that consumes people and promotes America's enduring wars.

Tank protest:
"Bloodied Dutch nation ... Russia not an enemy, stop the warmongering."

"In this way, GroenLinks believes that it represents the interests of the population. The wry irony is that the sole beneficiary of this authoritarian attitude is the military-industrial complex."

US Embassy General Consul Kate Nanavatty hiding her identity in meeting Bellingcatter Youri Albrecht and remains silent on questions posed to her by reporter.

Secretive contacts of Youri Albrecht

This is Yoeri Albrecht, who was caught by a young journalist from the media channel Left Laser during a private meeting with two American-speaking ladies at the tank display on Leidseplein, the center of culture, theater and night life in the heart ♥️ of Amsterdam. Where is the peace movement to combat 21st century Pax Americana? ☮️

VVD prominent Henk Kamp on asylum: cancel international treaties if necessary

The number of asylum seekers that the Netherlands is waiting for "cannot be accommodated in a responsible manner", says former minister Henk Kamp in the WNL radio program Sven Op 1. As far as he is concerned, enough is enough.

"It's an unsustainable situation, and I have no patience." If no other way is possible, he therefore advises, if necessary, to renounce the Refugee Convention and the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

"These treaties must not stand in the way of solving a very real problem that threatens the quality of Dutch society," says the VVD prominent.

  • VVD party prominents even suggested the British Rwanda option

The Refugee Convention, drawn up by the United Nations, states that people who fear persecution because of race, religion, nationality, sexual orientation or political opinion have the right to protection. States should not return people to countries where they fear persecution.

Fu*cking bloodhound. French philosopher shows up ahead of regime change ... the EU version of John McCain ... neocon warmonger.

European leaders are rarely celebrated as heroes, but this is precisely how Nicolas Sarkozy and David Cameron were treated in Tripoli. As a reward for their military deployment against Moammar Gadhafi, the president and prime minister received a warm reception. The French appear to have gained the most in Libya.

All the streets in front of the hotel have been closed. Standing next to the rebels with their Kalashnikovs are security forces who ask in French for proof of access authorization and check each passer-by with small metal detectors. Despite the high security, many viewed the brief visit by Cameron and Sarkozy as a welcome diversion.

'Merci Sarkozy' and 'Thank You Britain'

For a little less than 12 hours, everything wrong in the world appeared to have been briefly forgotten -- the banking crisis, the market crash, sinking popularity in opinion polls. Cameron and Sarkozy clearly revelled in their one-day appearance as world leaders, basking in the glow of their popularity far away from their homes and the thankless routine of daily political life. Graffiti has been sprayed on walls across Tripoli with slogans like "Merci Sarkozy" and "Thank You Britain".

Onward to Syria we go ... CIA coordination HQ Benghazi of weapons transport into Syria through Northern border with Turkey. Sunni Arab states and Qatar funded airlift of weapons and thousands of jihadist fighters. The back country of Mali, across the vast Sahara desert will soon see Tuareg mercenaries return with more advanced weapons and vehicles to fight for an independent state Azawad. The start of African refugees start pouring into Europe as a free for all in human trafficking has opened borders.

Or else the fighter jets are quite useless in the proxy war of America v. Russia.

Battle Networks and the Future Force | CSIS |

It is the root cause of many interoperability limitations present in the force today, such as the inability of the U.S. Air Force's two fifth-generation fighters (the F-22 and F-35) to communicate directly with one another.

To address some interoperability issues, DoD is using workarounds, such as U-2s equipped with a communications payload that connects F-22s and F-35s with each other and with units on the ground. Similarly, the Battlefield Airborne Communication Node (BACN) can be flown on platforms such as the RQ-4 and E-11A to act as a communications gateway to connect aircraft and users on the ground using various tactical data links, such as Link 16 and the Situational Awareness Data Link (SADL).

F-16s Supported By NATO Airborne Radar!

The Su-35's advantage in BVR combat would diminish if the F-16s supplied to Ukraine come with NATO's Link 16 tactical data link network that enables all the assets on the battlefield to share the same picture.

In that case, NATO could employ its AWACS airborne radar near Ukrainian air space to provide tracking information to F-16s and guide the AMRAAMs fired by them mid-flight toward their targets.

Experts have warned that NATO AWACS platforms supporting the Ukrainian F-16s could make them active participants in the conflict in the eyes of the Russian leadership.

Deputy Chairman of Russia's Security Council and Former President Dmitry Medvedev warned last year that NATO personnel actively participating in the conflict will become a legitimate target" for the Russian armed forces.

Much news content on Dutch tv can be labeled as suspect FAKE news.

Background: Tito's Yugoslavia | CES at UNC |

This module provides a brief historical analysis of Yugoslavia, the key role it played as a buffer zone between the West and East during the Cold War and the consequences of this for domestic politics in Yugoslavia. Under the leadership of Josip Broz Tito, who ruled from 1945 until his death in 1980, Yugoslavia's unique geopolitical situation allowed the socialist country to maintain internal cohesion while suppressing nationalistic movements within its constituting six republics (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia, and Serbia) and two autonomous provinces (Kosovo and Vojvodina).

The end of the Cold War changed the international system and its balance of powers rather drastically. Although the Cold War brought about many crises within the Western and the Communist bloc and in the third-world, it created a very stable division of power in Europe. Both the USSR and the U.S. had formed competing blocs, NATO and the Warsaw Pact, to balance each other and exert control over their half of Europe. Crises erupted sporadically within the Warsaw Pact. NATO, however, did not interfere in the internal affairs of the Soviet satellites, since the U.S. was committed to containing the USSR rather than confronting it.

In this well-balanced geopolitical environment, Yugoslavia played an essential role. Its geographic position enabled it to serve as a buffer between the two opposing blocks. Yugoslavia was a socialist state, but it did not side with either of the superpowers. Instead, it maintained its role as an independent socialist state following the uncompromised Marxist-Leninist principles. Because of its highly popular leader, Marshall Bros Tito, and his political acumen, Yugoslavia was able to maintain its independence and, at the same time, reap the benefits of the fierce competition between the two blocks.

eeas.europa.eu | Moldova: Press remarks by the High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell at the handover of EPF financed equipment, 31 May omen
I want to say hello to all representatives of local authorities and institutions, to distinguished guests and partners of this ceremony. I am very glad to be here, at this impressive, I would not say beautiful, but really impressive - Museum of the National Army, which is also the Museum of History of Moldova.

I am here to demonstrate our firm support to Moldova. But our support should not be something abstract. I want to present concrete, visible, and tangible results of our security and defence cooperation.  We have seen it, we have touched it—we have even weighed it. We are handing over this first batch of equipment provided through the European Peace Facility (EPF) to Moldova.

It will support the military medical and explosive ordnance disposal capacities of your national army. It includes drones, laptops, Explosive Ordnance Disposal suits, ultrasound machines, individual protection kits and surgery sets. As you see, there is no lethal equipment. But an army is something more just than arms. Behind the arms, there is a lot of logistics, a lot of surgery, transport, fueling, control, observation capacities. And this is what we try to support you to develop.

And this is just the start, Minister. This is just the start. It is part of a first step of our support under the European Peace Facility [EPF], which amounts to €87 million. But more equipment will come in the next months, such as ambulances, mobile demining robots, metal detectors, radios, radars. Our support will continue to reflect the challenges that Moldova is facing.

"We have decided to deploy 700 more troops from the operational reserve force for Western Balkans," Stoltenberg told reporters in Oslo, after talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store.

He said that NATO would also "put an additional battalion of reserve forces on high readiness so they can also be deployed if needed. These are prudent steps." A battalion typically ranges from 300 to around 1,000 troops. The NATO-led peacekeeping mission, KFOR, currently consists of almost 3,800 troops.

Once feted by Tony Blair and Madeleine Albright, Hashim Thaçi stands accused in The Hague of complicity in torture and murder | The Guardian - April 10, 2023 |

A quarter of a century ago, in the midst of the war in Kosovo and in its aftermath, senior international figures beat a path to the door of Hashim Thaçi, the Kosovo Liberation Army commander who would later become the country's most prominent politician.

Thaçi hosted the former UK prime minister Tony Blair, one of the KLA's most prominent international supporters. He met the late Liberal Democrat leader Sir Paddy Ashdown for a beer. Madeleine Albright, then US secretary of state, was a vocal admirer, and Hillary Clinton met Thaçi later when she occupied the same position.

Last week, however, Thaçi - who served as both prime minister and president of Kosovo - appeared in the dock of a Hague court alongside three prominent colleagues, all accused of war crimes committed during the conflict, including complicity in the murder of 102 people.

Trial of four top commanders of the former rebel Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) started in The Hague | DW News - April 2023 |

The trial of four top commanders of the former rebel Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) started in The Hague's Kosovo war crimes tribunal.

Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi stand accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity carried out in Kosovo between 1998 and 2000. So far, 312 witnesses have been identified by the prosecution.

Thaci was the political leader of the KLA before and during the 1998-99 Kosovo war, which broke out between the forces of Serbia and Montenegro and the KLA Kosovo Albanian rebel group. Veseli was the head of the group's intelligence service; Krasniqi was its spokesman; and Selimi was among the general staff.

The Yugoslav government labeled the KLA a terrorist organization and took relentless action against its members.

[...]
It eventually also brought NATO's intervention to end the conflict, though NATO's own bombing campaign remains controversial. The KLA and the armed resistance against the Serbian units gained more and more support from broad sections of the Kosovo Albanian population during this period, when Thaci became the KLA's political spokesman.

In June 1999, the UN passed a resolution and Serbian units withdrew from Kosovo. Thaci and other KLA representatives formed an interim government, and the UN installed the interim administration mission, UNMIK.

Four men part of a 'joint criminal enterprise'

The indictment includes charges of unlawful imprisonment, torture, murder, crimes against humanity, enforced disappearances and persecution of hundreds of civilians and people who did not want to take part in the fighting. These crimes allegedly took place between March 1998 and September 1999 in various places in Kosovo, but also in northern Albania in the municipalities of Kukes and Cahan.

"The victims included persons suspected of being opposed to the KLA and later the Provisional Government of Kosovo," the indictment read. These victims are said to have included members of the Serbian, Roma and Ashkali populations, Catholics, civilians allegedly collaborating with Serb authorities as well as Albanians who merely supported other parties perceived as anti-KLA, and or simply did not join or support the KLA.
