Targeted Assassinations: a Bankrupt Strategy

by Oui Tue May 9th, 2023 at 09:32:59 AM EST

Quite likely my very last diary written here @EuroTrib, however I couldn't keep silent on a topic close to my heart and value of principles worth living for. This blog specifically has a history of bloggers where views and news on the I-P conflict were kept in balance.

For a number of years and especially recently during the Trump administration and the idiotic pro-Israel stance and damn the Palestinians, Europeans began to turn after the wicked Abraham "Economic" Accords. About the same level of wisdom as Trump/Pompeo sitting at the table with top Taliban terrorists in Doha trumpeting retreat from Afghanistan, admitting a disgraceful defeat in the graveyard of empires. Notch up another failed empire, leaving the civilian population, especially girls and women in a Medieval hell, worst on Earth. America turns its back just to head towards Poland and the Baltics to continue their war on another front. Afghanistan is eft to the region as the neighbouring states will have to deal with these ramifications.

Joe may you receive your reward in the next life you believe in. Joe you are morally corrupt like most who have a role in political power for way too long. Vladimir Putin 1998 - present - Joe Biden 1982 - present.

One note: Yossi Melman doesn't care about the suffering of the Palestinians. He's only interested in the interests of Israel and its citizens.  But at least his pragmatic approach is better than the alternative: war crimes, endless blood and suffering

Targeted assassinations: a bankrupt strategy

For years, I've written here about Israel's targeted assassination strategy, which it has pursued since the founding of the state in 1948.  Ronen Bergman estimates that the Mossad has murdered 3,000 "enemies" of Israel, many but not all, Palestinian.

But in quasi-Solomonic fashion, Israeli High Court only gave the IDF 7/8 of the loaf. The government had maintained, in consonance with true U.S. neocon legal reasoning that Palestinian "terrorists" were "enemy combatants" and therefore not protected by international law.

In most cases, it's made no appreciable difference to the groups whose leaders were murdered.  In some cases, the figure who succeeded the victim was a more ferocious and formidable enemy, such as Hezbollah's Hassan Nasrallah, who replaced Abbas Musawi after he was assassinated.  When Israel murdered Hamas founder, Sheikh Ahmed Yassine, it strengthened the militant group by developing a new young core of leaders to replace him: Khaled Meshal, Ismail Haniye, Mahmoud Zahar, Mohammed Deif, Yehiya Sinwar.  You may murder a man, but you cannot murder a movement.

Israel's Mossad and its MeK [terrorist] allies pursued the same approach regarding Iran's nuclear program.  Along with attempting to sabotage nuclear facilities and destroy missile bases, it has assassinated many nuclear scientists, including the father of the program, Moshen Fahrizadeh.  The best evaluation of the impact of this murder is featured in the 2023 US Intelligence Threat Assessment report:

Iran is not currently undertaking the key nuclear weapons-development activities that would be necessary to produce a testable nuclear device. Since the  assassination in November 2020 of nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, Iran has accelerated the expansion of its nuclear program, stated that it is no longer  constrained by any JCPOA limits, and undertaken research and development activities that would bring it closer to producing the fissile material for completing  a nuclear device following a decision to do so. If Tehran does not receive sanctions relief, Iranian officials probably will consider further enriching uranium up to 90 percent.

Assassinations are ACTS OF TERROR and should be condemned by the global community advocating the Geneve conventions, UN Charter and UNHCR, human rights and oppose war crimes.

Assassinations are cruel acts and should not be part of our moral values as these are clearly tools of fascism. Not at all surprising we see today the Nazi elements in Kiev turning to these acts of terror to silence people inside Russia voicing their ill conceived support for the Russian dictator. Not all Ukrainians were pro-Western moral values during WWII as they collaborated with Nazi Germany and were complicit in the killing fields of their countrymen belonging to minorities, especially targeting the Jewish population. Great shame for their role in the Shoah on Ukrainian soil.

Egyptian FM heads for Berlin to attend Munich Meeting on Middle East Peace Process

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry heads for Berlin on Wednesday to participate in the Ministerial Munich Meeting on the Middle East Peace Process, said Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid.

The spokesman said the foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, Germany and France will attend the meeting to discuss the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian lands and ways to intensify truce efforts and reduce tension between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.

He added the situation in the Palestinian territories is a serious escalation that necessitates intensifying all international efforts to stop Israel's repeated attacks on Palestinians, in addition to coordinating work among active parties regionally and international to attain that target.

Simcha Rothman loses temper, confronts protesters in New York | JPost |

According to a statement from the anti-government protest groups, the protester that was assaulted is a lawyer and graduate student at Columbia University and intends on filing assault charges against Rothman.

"Even Rothman's violence will not break our resolve and the historic protest will only gain momentum," the protester in question said. "We stand here in solidarity and support with our families and friends in Israel who are steadfastly defending Israeli democracy."

Rothman's patience with protesters runs out

Last Sunday, Rothman was met with hundreds of protesters as he arrived at Tel Aviv University for a conference he was scheduled to speak at.

While he was inside the conference, demonstrators plastered his car with stickers representing various anti-government protest movements, with one attendee sharing a short video of the adorned car with the caption: "Cars of the thieving government."

However, protesters waited for him inside as well, and Rothman briefly turned his attention to them, accusing them of being "unable to hear viewpoints that are not their own."

"When your argument is weak, you raise your voice," he continued. "You don't have the ability to deal with things intellectually so you deal with it by bullying. You are limited. You don't have intellectual capacity so you shout."

Shouting at one a other is a characteristic in Israeli 🇮🇱 heated debate 🥹

Blinken says Israel settlements are obstacle to peace, advocates Saudi normalisation

President Joe Biden's administration has criticised Israel's right-wing government for moves it sees as consolidating settlements and for "provocative" visits by some members of the government to sites in Jerusalem sacred to both Muslims and Jews.
"Settlement expansion clearly presents an obstacle to the horizon of hope that we seek," Blinken said to a muted response from the audience.

"Likewise, any move toward annexation of the West Bank, de facto or de jure, disruption of the historic status quo at holy sites, the continuing demolitions of homes and the evictions of families that have lived in those homes for generations damage prospects for two states. They also undermine the basic daily dignity to which all people are entitled," Blinken added.

The top US diplomat however drew widespread applause when he outlined the long-standing American commitment to Israel and said all options were on the table when it came to preventing Israel's Number One enemy, Iran, from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

Going Underground .. or Leaving the UK

I presume no one was held accountable for the murder of Yaakov Yisrael Dahan. "He was a man who devoted all his energies and the best years of his life to saving the remnant of loyal Jews, and to promote peace with the veteran Arab residents of the Holy Land."

My diaries on Naturei Karta @BooMan now "Progress Pond" ...

A group of Jews from Neturei Karta demonstrated in The Hague at the Peace Palace to send a message about the decision of the Separation Wall crossing the Green Line on Palestinian Land. In a period the International Court of Justice made a decision where the "barrier" was declared illegal, State of Israel lost.

Protest of perhaps over a thousand in front of the ICJ at Carnegie Square near the Javastraat. I was close by.
