Palestinian Statehood - Year 2018

    Geoff Young (D) for Congress - 2024
    THE MOST PRO-PEACE CANDIDATE EVER!

Quite outspoken and emotional, sometimes a bit over the top ...

Geoff Young came of age politically in the mid-1970s as a student at MIT, where he took political science courses with Noam Chomsky and Louis Kampf, which opened his eyes to the evils of American imperialism and the U.S. government's contempt for international law.

Now, decades later, Young has a real chance of being elected to Kentucky's Congress on the basis of abolishing the CIA.

    Antiwar, anti-Western-imperialism activist since 1976.

    ▶️
My name is Geoff Young and this is why I'm running for Congress:

Kentucky is in big trouble because America is in big trouble. America is in big trouble because for the last several decades, the military-industrial complex, the President (whether Democrat or Republican), the US military & CIA, the House of Representatives & Senate, and our so-called allies (for example, NATO & Israel) have been waging unjust wars all around the world, none of which we had to fight in order to defend our country. All of our wars since 1945 have been unnecessary, unjust, immoral and illegal. When any country goes berserk like that, it makes more and more enemies, loses its former friends, and earns the lasting hatred of about 7 billion out of the world's 8.1 billion people.

On January 11, 2024, the US and Britain launched missiles against the capital of Yemen and several other areas in that country. When they did that, the US and Britain committed international aggression against Yemen. International aggression is the worst war crime it's possible for any country to commit, according to the judgment of the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg, which followed World War 2. "To initiate a war of aggression, therefore, is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole."

Closing Impunity Gaps for the Crime of Aggression

As stated at Nuremberg, the crime of aggression is the "supreme international crime, differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole."

New Fascist Pariah States America and Israel Lashing Out | 20 June 2018 |

During the Clinton administration Al Qaeda grew into a menace for the Global Order by their terror attacks on the WTC in 1993, the twin bombing of U.S. Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998 and the attack on the USS Cole anchored with lowered defenses near Aden in Yemen. How the attacks of 9/11 has changed not only the face of the world by wars and millions of victims and a record number of refugees and displaced persons from North Africa, the Middle East and in the AfPak region. None of the imperial military campaign by the mightiest sword of America has done much good, much more evil has come from it. The effort after the Great War of 1939-1945 to maintain International Law and Human Rights has been undone.

Thirty-three years from Saddam's Scud Rockets to Hamas' "arson kites" and boys throwing rocks at the occupiers.

Biggest error in U.S. Foreign policy by Biden/Blinken to continue the unprecedented biased pro-Israel policy of his predecessor [and successor?] President Donald Trump and his henchman Mike Pompeo. No light between them, Joe likely much worse as he distanced himself from the restrained policy of President Barack Obama. In short, to bear hug Bibi Netanyahu was doomed to failure. 50 Years of foreign policy failure under his belt.

Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), formerly known as Jabhat al-Nusra (Al-Nusra) and Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, is a Sunni opposition umbrella group that aims to overthrow the Assad regime and establish an Islamic Emirate in Syria. The group targets the Assad regime, Shiite forces, and U.S-backed forces in 11 of Syria's 13 provinces and has conducted operations in Lebanon's Bekka Valley. Al-Nusra was formed in late 2011 when Al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) emir Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi sent AQI operative Abu Muhammad al-Julani to Syria to organize regional jihadist cells. At its inception, Al-Nusra began harboring the Khorasan Group a cell of approximately two dozen experienced Al Qaeda (AQ) jihadists whom the central AQ leadership had sent to Syria to organize regional jihadist cells. However, Al-Nusra began targeting the Islamic State (IS, formerly AQI) in January 2014 amid rising tensions between IS and the Sunni opposition forces. [Source: CISC @Stanford U.]

Has been visible for decades for everyone to witness the deterioration and let war crimes pass with impunity. The ultimate victims are Israelis a d Palestinians alike. The West, especially the EU has chosen aggression and war ... is by itself a supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole.

TheInternational Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) is a United Nations court of law dealing with war crimes that took place during the conflicts in the Balkans in the 1990's. Established by the UNSC in 1993.

The ICTY convicted persons for war crimes and "genocide" ... later the ICJ made a decision war crimes in another Yugoslav case were not considered genocide.

    International Tribunals
Article 41 of the United Nations Charter gives the Security Council the authority to use a variety of measures to enforce its decisions. The Council regularly creates subsidiary organs to support or implement these measures. These organs have included international tribunals which have tried people responsible for serious crimes under international humanitarian law or in cases where the Government has requested the assistance of the Council in investigating and prosecuting cases.

See also 1995 Rwanda Tribunal (ICTR) is located in Arusha, Tanzania, and has offices in Kigali, Rwanda. Its Appeals Chamber is located in The Hague, Netherlands.

Cleveringa Professor Roméo Dallaire on Rwanda and PTSD

Cleveringa Professor Roméo Dallaire led the UN peacekeeping mission in Rwanda in 1994, but was unable to prevent a genocide from unfolding before his very eyes. Eight hundred thousand people lost their lives. In his Cleveringa Lecture on 26 November, this retired Lieutenant-General from Canada speaks openly about his horrific experiences and the trauma that this left behind. We spoke to him before the lecture.

You went down in history as the commander who remained. The United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR) that you were leading was ordered to withdraw in 1994 to protect the safety of the soldiers, but you and some of the troops decided to disobey this order rather than abandon Rwanda. `Like Professor Cleveringa, I recognized a greater, moral and ethical responsibility to disobey,' you write in your speech. Is it not hard for a member of the military to ignore a command from the higher ranks?

`That is a question that only civilians ask me. Although it may be difficult for a soldier to disobey an order in peacetime, it's not when you are in a war. Then the ethical consequences of your conduct are suddenly clear as a bell and choices much easier. The order to withdraw was immoral, so I didn't consider it for a moment. If I had done, I would have been consumed with guilt. The only thing I did worry about was whether the troops would remain alongside me. Many soldiers did, fortunately. In the end we were able to save a considerable number of lives.'

Rwanda wasn't the only time a UN mission has been unable to prevent a genocide. We in the Netherlands experienced a national trauma after the fall of Srebrenica. What can the organisation do to prevent such a disaster in future?

'There is already an ambitious reform package that could make the UN stronger and more effective. It was presented to the then Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, in 2003, but one country on the Security Council vetoed this package. Can you guess which country this was?'

'The US didn't want the UN to
    gain any more power because
    that would represent a potential
    threat to superpower America.'

    Russia?

'No, the United States! The package was rejected by John Bolton, the ambassador to the UN under George W. Bush. The same man who was National Security Adviser under Donald Trump until September last year. The US didn't want the UN to gain any more power because that would represent a potential threat to superpower America.'

Saudi-Iran Relations: Interview with Prof. Bernard Haykel

"Reaching an agreement with Iran is unlikely to affect the decisions of OPEC+ on oil production." and "We are far from seeing the flourishing of Iran's energy sector"

EOA: How can we interpret the agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia to re-establish diplomatic relations? Does this mean that the two sides have agreed to resolve disputes, or will this agreement be the stepping stone to more talks between Riyadh and Tehran?

Prof. Haykel: This agreement has been months in the making and it has been negotiated by two of the top officials in Saudi Arabia and Iran, respectively. It represents a first step towards better relations, but only if both sides establish confidence. This will require a diminution in aggressive actions such that Iran restricts Shiite militias from attacking Saudi Arabia, and, in return, Riyadh restrains Iran International, an effective anti-regime television station sponsored by the Kingdom. For Saudi Arabia, this specifically means a halt to Huthi missile and drone attacks against the Kingdom.

What this agreement also represents is a decisive shift in Riyadh's policies--what matters most are national strategic interests and pragmatic policies to achieve these. Certainly, the agreement also signals the rising importance of China which has brought its influence to bear on both countries. Beijing is the one power, other than Russia, that can have an impact on Tehran's regional policies.

The Iranians have been negotiating with the Saudis for a while, asking for the reopening of the embassies and the resumption of diplomatic relations as well as obtaining hajj visas for Iranian pilgrims. The Saudis have now responded by offering concessions on all these demands, and the hajj season is not far off, so Iranians, if all goes well, will be returning to the annual pilgrimage after several years. If the Iranians reciprocate with concrete steps that reduce the security concerns of the Kingdom--remember the September 2019 Iranian attacks on Saudi oil facilities--more will be offered by Riyadh.

Prof. Hykel has a lecture planned @Leiden University ...

    Great Powers' Foreign Policy | 19 Dec. 2022 |

Approaching the Global Competition and the Russian War against the West

Abandoning Globalization and Multilateralism, the War Against Barbarism

    Volume Editor: Valentin Naumescu

By comparing the great-powers' foreign policy, this book investigates the global competition and revisionist attempts to dismantle the Western liberal order. Since February 2022, the international system has been challenged by the Russian invasion in Ukraine and its profound, multiple consequences. Putin's War has reinvented the West. But still, this is not "the end of history". To illustrate that tensions between democratic and autocratic great powers are nowadays at their peak since the end of the Cold War, one should consider President Biden's words in Warsaw, referring to President Putin: "For God's sake, this man cannot remain in power!"
