Netanyahu claims scandals plaguing his staff are being manufactured to harm war effort | Times of Israel |

Tzachi Braverman, who serves as chief of staff to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was reported on Sunday to be the official suspected of blackmailing an IDF officer to allegedly alter minutes from wartime meetings by threatening him with a sensitive video recording.

[...]

In the incident, which appeared to be related to the fresh reports on Sunday, Netanyahu's aides are thought to have used "sensitive footage" of a military secretariat officer in order to coax him into changing protocols from the night of October 6-7, 2023 -- hours before the devastating Hamas attack on southern Israel.

According to Ynet, an attempt was also made to edit minutes of discussions related to Israel's preparations to appear before the International Court of Justice.

On Sunday, the court extended by four days the detention of Eli Feldstein, a key suspect in a scandal surrounding suspicions that classified documents were mishandled by the Prime Minister's Office.

The court also extended the detention of an IDF officer suspected of involvement in the scandal, also by four days. [Source: Times of Israel ]

A new front opened to attack PM's war effort ...

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday accused Israeli media of opening a "front" against him alongside Hamas, Hezbollah, and other Iran-backed groups, alleging that investigations into a series of scandals linked to his office were part of an attempt to weaken the nation during wartime.

"Even as I manage the war and battle international attacks from various directions, now we are forced to deal more than before with another front -- the media's fake news," he said in a pre-recorded message, his second in hours.

Biden's dangerous stance on the war in Israel and Gaza | Brookings Institute - 27 Oct 2023 |

President Joe Biden has been a strong supporter of Israel throughout his long political career. Yet it has been stunning to watch his seeming tolerance of the calamity that has been visited on the people of Gaza and his reluctance to condemn the actions behind it. Biden was rightly lauded for reaching out to Israelis after Hamas' horrific attack killed and wounded thousands of Israelis, mostly civilians, including many children, and took over 200 hostages. He signaled support for a people under attack during a moment of pain and vulnerability, displaying timely solidarity. Nothing justifies targeting or recklessly endangering civilians, which also constitutes war crimes.
But since that first moment, many of the president's actions have been misguided, even dangerous. They serve neither Israeli nor Palestinian long-term interests, and they threaten to undermine the U.S. national interest.

The failure of private counsel

One charitable take on Biden's approach, privately encouraged by some administration officials, is that Biden's full public support for Israel, without loud, overt calls for restraint, is tactical: to gain leverage with Israeli leaders in the hope of influencing them, while counseling restraint privately. But if this is the intent, the outcome has been a demonstrable failure.

What Rough Beast? President Biden's Gaza Policy Leaves the Middle East in Flames | Juan Cole |

President Joe Biden has now joined the ranks of Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush as a president whose Middle East policy crashed and burned spectacularly. Unlike Carter, who was stymied by the Iranian hostage crisis, or Bush, who faced a popular Iraqi resistance movement, Biden's woes weren't inflicted by an enemy. Quite the opposite, it was this country's putative partner, the Israeli government, that implicated the president in its still ongoing genocide in Gaza, as well as its disproportionate attacks on Lebanon and Iran, for which Biden steadfastly declined to impose the slightest penalties. Instead, he's continued to arm the Israelis to the teeth.

Israel's total war on Palestinian civilians, in turn, significantly reduced enthusiasm for Biden among youth and minorities at home, helping usher him out of office. It also created electoral obstacles for Kamala Harris's presidential bid. By his insistence on impunity for the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Biden has left the Middle East in flames and the U.S. and the world distinctly in peril.

During his first three years in office, his administration wielded the tools of diplomacy in the Middle East. ⬅️ Utter nonsense ... had no interest in correcting Trump policy and negotiate JCPOA, continued the Abraham Accords w/o addressing Palestinian suffering under occupation and apartheid. Same BS on Ukraine with coercive bullying instead of diplomacy and honest brokering. - Oui
