Attacks on America - War in Terrorism

U.S., Russia and the Global War on Terror Shoulder to Shoulder Into Battle? | DTIC - 2005 |

"The United States stands side-by-side with Russia as we fight off terrorism."
--President George W. Bush>

In the wake of 9/11, the first foreign leader to call President Bush with words of condolence and support was President Vladimir Putin. Putin is quoted as having said, "So, we understand as well as anyone the feelings of the American people. Addressing the people of the United States on behalf of Russia I would like to say that we are with you, we entirely and fully share and experience your pain. We support you."

In the wake of the Beslan school tragedy in southern Russia, President Bush sent condolences to the people of Russia when he visited the Russian Embassy in Washington shortly after the tragedy in September of 2004. Bush said "The United States stands side- by-side with Russia as we fight off terrorism, as we stand shoulder-to-shoulder to make the world a more peaceful place and a free place."

Cheney's Imperial Presidency | Posted by Oui @BooMan on 2 Aug 2007 |

Stephen F. Hayes's new biography Cheney recounts a discussion in 1980 at the American Enterprise Institute between two new congressmen, Dick Cheney and Newt Gingrich.

"Congress has been a big part of the problem," declared Cheney, a veteran of the Ford administration. "A fundamental problem has been the extent to which we have restrained presidential authority over the last several years. ... We have been concerned with the so-called myth of the imperial presidency.
"We must restore some balance" between Congress and the White House, Cheney insisted.

Gingrich vehemently disagreed. [History will bear witness both arms of the State will become far-right extreme helped by 9/11 attacks. After Trump Scotus joined the extremists]

Iraq War Policy

In 2002-2003 leaders of both the AEI and CFR were strong supporters of the U.S. invasion, occupation and "regime change" in Iraq. Since then the positions of leading members of the two organizations have gradually diverged. The AEI still believes it possible and wants to achieve military victory in Iraq, as illustrated by the current policy of escalation ("surge") planned and successfully promoted to the Bush administration by AEI "resident scholar" Frederick W. Kagan. Late in 2006 Kagan wrote the following analysis and policy recommendations aimed at the Bush administration and the wider U.S. public: "Victory is still an option in Iraq. America, a country of 300 million people with a GDP of $12 trillion, and more than 1 million soldiers and marines, can regain control of Iraq, a state the size of California with a population of 25 million and a GDP under $100 billion.

"Victory in Iraq is vital to America's security. Defeat will lead to regional conflict, humanitarian catastrophe, and increased global terrorism.

Iraq has reached a critical point. The strategy of relying on a political process to eliminate the insurgency has failed. Rising sectarian violence threatens to break America's will to fight. This violence will destroy the Iraqi government, armed forces, and people if it is not rapidly controlled.

Victory in Iraq is still possible at an acceptable level of effort. We must adopt a new approach to the war and implement it quickly and decisively.... We must act now to restore security and stability to Baghdad. We and the enemy have identified it as the decisive point ...

I'm not clear whether Vershbow's "offer" in the last sentence is one to help Israel avoid serious investigation of Cast Lead abuses (since U.S. investigations of our own abuses in Iraq and Afghanistan have failed miserably); or whether this constitutes what he believes is a serious offer to help Israel do the right thing.  If the latter, it's a woefully naïve offer.

The End of An Affair? | The Economist - 10 Sept 2009 |

After two decades of sometimes fervent Atlanticism in the ex-communist world, disillusionment (some would call it realism) is growing. At its height the bond between eastern Europe and America was based, like the best marriages, on a mixture of emotion and mutual support. The romance dates from the cold war: when western Europe was sometimes squishy in dealing with the Soviet empire, America was robust. When the Iron Curtain fell, ex-dissidents and retired cold warriors found they had plenty in common. America pushed for the expansion of NATO, guaranteeing the east Europeans' security. In return, ex-communist countries loyally supported America, particularly in providing troops for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Putin threatens US arms race with new missiles declaration | The Guardian - 1 Mar 2018 |

President says Russia has new line of nuclear-capable weapons that can breach US defences

President Vladimir Putin has announced that Russia has developed and is testing a new line of strategic nuclear-capable weapons that would be able to outmanoeuvre US defences, in a possible signal of a new arms race between Moscow and the west.

Speaking in a nationally televised address to the country's political elite weeks before the presidential election, Putin showed video and animations of ICBMs, nuclear-powered cruise missiles, underwater drones and other weapons that he said Russia had developed as a result of the US pulling out of the 1972 anti-ballistic missile treaty signed with the Soviet Union.

"You didn't listen to our country then," Putin said during the speech. "Listen to us now." Some of the weapons were already being tested, he added.

The existence of several of the weapons systems - like the RS-28 Sarmat, or Satan 2, nuclear missile - were well-known and their tests had been previously reported. What was new was Putin's portrayal of Russia's modernising arsenal as an adversarial response to US policy since 2001.

Making Putin a Pariah Among Allies

Chicago Council on Global Affairs @globalaffairsorg

"Making Putin a true pariah internationally is something that we spend a lot of time on," Council President Ivo Daalder told Wolf Blitzer on CNN's Situation Room - 30 March 2022.

"In the NATO summit, for example, a statement pointed out that countries really can't sit on the sidelines, and specifically called on China and Xi Jinping to condemn what has happened with the Russian invasion of Ukraine. And to make sure that they didn't support Russia materially, because if they did there would be real consequences.

So there is this attempt really to try to isolate Russia politically. I think trying to get them out of the G20 is exactly the right thing to do." He added, "At least the West is united; now we need to get the rest on board."

Quite distressful that contrary to offer of a NATO partnership, warmongers were United to make the Russian Federation a pariah state. It kind of backfired ... evil comes back to haunt you on more than one level. America has become a fascist enterprise. 21st Century Pax Americana 🔥 🔥

Vatican City and Hitler's Persecution of Jews

The Vatican, Il Duce and the Jews | Brandeis publication | by David I. Kertzner

An extraordinary book explains in disturbing detail the history-altering relationship between Pope Pius XI and Mussolini.

[...]
Curiously, it was Italy's Jews who first led me to work in the Vatican archives and triggered my interest in papal politics. A colleague of mine, Steve Hughes, an American historian of Italy, asked me offhandedly at a conference in the early 1990s whether I had ever heard of the Mortara case. In 1858, Edgardo Mortara, a 6-year-old child of Jewish parents in Bologna, was seized on orders of the Inquisitor. He had -- or so it was thought -- been secretly baptized by a Christian servant girl and therefore could not remain in a Jewish family. I became fascinated with this largely buried story, which led me to Pope Pius IX, the Vatican Secret Archives and eventually to my book, "The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara."

The "gentle Ukrainianization" agenda is consistent with other innovations in the sphere of education, where Ukrainian has been mandated to be the main language of instruction in all of Ukraine's public schools.

A new language policy in Ukraine, spurred by the 2013-14 Euromaidan and marked by the repeal of the notorious Kolesnichenko-Kivalov law,[1] appears to be one of the things most consistently implemented by the post-revolutionary Ukrainian government.

The recently announced action plan is also in line with the introduction of Ukrainian as the default language of public service, which came into force on January 16, 2021, as stipulated by the 2019 Law on Language. The latest developments, however, show some hesitation in meeting the other provisions of the law.

What's So Bad About Thatcherism and Reaganomics?

Evidence suggests that reducing taxation on businesses and the wealthy does not effectively grow the economy. What it does do is boost income inequality, bolster trickle-down economics and reduce the government's budget to provide an efficient social safety net.

Not to mention, things have changed a lot since the Thatcher-Reagan glory days of the 80s. The current circumstances are vastly different, meaning that there's no guarantee that supply-side economics could work today. And even in the 80s, supply-side economics were not all that they were made out to be.

Thatcherism increased unemployment, poverty, and highlighted measures of austerity that chipped away at the UK's social security net. After all, Margaret Thatcher famously declared that there is "no such thing as society". This gives a pretty clear indication of how she felt about those who relied on social welfare measures to survive.

During this time, a number of economic policies were introduced to crush the power of trade unions. This deepened the UK's class divide and alienated the working class by dismantling workers' rights.

The awkward is often much simpler than the emotions, ego and ethnic considerations supposes.

Some stability in the Cold War period came about in willingness to coexist and let the global skirmishes play out in Africa, Asia and the America's.

The CIA always overestimated the power of the Communist regime to benefit the growth of the defense industry. Just like reaching for the moon under Jack Kennedy, it is a boost for innovation and applied science. On theoretical science the Soviets were a match with America, but the capability to produce goods works in a capitalist system so much better then in a planned economy of Communism, quite a feat what China has achieved so far.

Article by Vladimir Putin "On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians"

Suffice it to say that Nikita Khrushchev and Leonid Brezhnev, whose party biography was most closely associated with Ukraine, led the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) for almost 30 years," Putin remarked.

Beyond Soviet leadership, Ukrainian historical influence over Russia is clear in an inviolable fashion because of the fact that Kiev was the capital of the first Russian state in history, dating back to the 9th century.

Ukrainian novelists like Nikolai Gogol's hero Taras Bulba, the story of Ukraine's famous Cossacks, have also been a great inspiration for many Russian generations for centuries.

The narrative of NATO and America was to paint Russia an enemy state, there were no real facts to support that. Russia bent over backwards to support the military effort of America in logistics for the war and invasion of Afghanistan. Many Muslim states cooperated with this effort to their own detriment.

The events that changed the world order was the fall of USSR, Al Qaeda attack on America, financial crisis 2007-08, NATO Bucharest Summit, and the Covid-19 pandemic.

America destroyed the world order of the United Nations, Geneva Conventions, treaties and basic diplomacy between sovereign states after 1991. Economic sanctions are a call for intervention, regime change and likely crimes against humanity. So the intention of the UN (Security Council) was ditched to serve America's self-interest. The most powerful state would dictate the NWO to all other nations.

The Russians replied:

    нет, мы основали свое собственное
    новый мировой порядок

Similarly the Chinese with 5,000 years of culture:

    不,我們創立了自己的
    世界新秩序

The Trump administration was already a leadership born in fascism a d white supremacy, the perfect leader. The weakness of Joe was to deepen and continue the wretched policy and added NATO military might and EU funding starting the proxy war in Ukraine ... to serve American interest and separate Europe and (Western) Russia for this century.

Lessons from the pandemic taught the power of self-sufficiency and the ability to let the world die from disease by withholding crucial basic elements and patents.

Broadcast on prime time national news this evening to feed warmongering Dutch society ...

Putin-Freund spricht im Russen-TV über Kriegsplan - da wird Sendung abgebrochen | Focus.de |

Broadcast canceled on Russian state TV. Because one of the invited guests suddenly spoke openly about Russian expansion plans, the moderator had to intervene. And without further ado, we initiated a commercial break.

The guests had previously speculated about a possible Russian victory in Ukraine. Aleksandr Sytin (65), political scientist and Kremlin propagandist, apparently forgot the official line of the Russian leadership, according to which people in Ukraine are only defending themselves.

Sytin started: "We always talk about Ukraine, but nobody actually cares about Ukraine. The task is this: Russia is carrying out a certain expansionary course. That's a fact. The countries of NATO and the EU want to end this expansion course. How they do it..."

Moderator interrupts those loyal to Putin: "This is not expansion"

However, before Sytin can expand on his ideas, he is rudely interrupted by the show's moderator: "This is not expansion, but the defense of national interests and security. We should really take a quick break. We're back after a break."

The Kremlin has been using the narrative that Russia is simply defending itself in Ukraine against Western aggression since the beginning of the war. The fact that the broadcast was interrupted after Sytin's slip-up shows that Putin also wants to keep his own population in the dark about his actual imperialist course.
