Netanyahu says ICC decisions will not affect Israel's actions, set dangerous precedent | Reuters - 26 Apr 2024 |

Israel's Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said on Friday that any rulings issued by the International Criminal Court would not affect Israel's actions but would "set a dangerous precedent".

"Under my leadership, Israel will never accept any attempt by the International Criminal Court in the Hague to undermine its basic right to defend itself," Netanyahu said in a statement on Telegram.

Carceral Imperialism: Torture, Abu Ghraib, and the Legacy of the U.S. War on Iraq | Informed Comment |

"To this day I feel humiliation for what was done to me... The time I spent in Abu Ghraib -- it ended my life. I'm only half a human now." That's what Abu Ghraib survivor Talib al-Majli had to say about the 16 months he spent at that notorious prison in Iraq after being captured and detained by American troops on October 31, 2003. In the wake of his release, al-Majli has continued to suffer a myriad of difficulties, including an inability to hold a job thanks to physical and mental-health deficits and a family life that remains in shambles.

He was never even charged with a crime -- not exactly surprising, given the Red Cross's estimate that 70% to 90% of those arrested and detained in Iraq after the 2003 American invasion of that country were guilty of nothing. But like other survivors, his time at Abu Ghraib continues to haunt him, even though, nearly 20 years later in America, the lack of justice and accountability for war crimes at that prison has been relegated to the distant past and is considered a long-closed chapter in this country's War on Terror.

The Abu Ghraib "Scandal"

On April 28th, 2004, CBS News's 60 Minutes aired a segment about Abu Ghraib prison, revealing for the first time photos of the kinds of torture that had happened there. Some of those now-infamous pictures included a black-hooded prisoner being made to stand on a box, his arms outstretched and electrical wires attached to his hands; naked prisoners piled on top of each other in a pyramid-like structure; and a prisoner in a jumpsuit on his knees being threatened with a dog.

The Battle of Jenin: A Case Study in Israel's Communications Strategy | January 2023 |

In July 2002, in the wake of Israel's Operation Defensive Shield and charges of a massacre committed by Israeli forces in the Jenin refugee camp, the Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies held a conference entitled "Jenin: A Case Study in Israel's Communications Strategy." The conference was part of the Center's Andrea and Charles Bronfman Program on Information Strategy.

Defensive Shield was launched in April 2002 following an upsurge in Palestinian violence. The task of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the densely populated Jenin refugee camp was to destroy the operational infrastructure of the militant organizations. Fighting was fierce, casualties were high, and reliable information was scarce. The intense confrontation in a closed military zone created fertile ground for rumors and distorted reports.

Because the Jenin operation, and the way it was reported, was such an outstanding example of Israel's lack of strategic and operational media planning, the Andrea and Charles Bronfman Program devoted a full day's discussion to the issue. The conference sought to understand essentially what went wrong and why. How was it possible that so many uncontested reports of a massacre circulated around the world when no massacre had occurred? What could be so wrong with Israel's media policy to allow such a warped and damaging perception of events to gain credibility?

Study not about illegality or human rights, just a lack of hasbara by the PMO.

As usual no long-term planning ... short-term survival mode and hoping for the best ... Joe is not really helpful with 40 years of close friendship with Israel and Netanyahu ... looking another failure in the face. The Zionist goal is a step closer ... just how to get rid of the pesky Palestinians is a challenge.

UAE gambled on intimate intelligence ties with the Jewish State and financial benefits thru the Abraham Accords ... got Crown Prince Salman on their side ... MBS too may be sacked sooner than later by the King. Watching closely how the resistance alliance of the region with China develops.

Absent a two-state solution for Palestine may complicate Biden-Blinken's dilemma further. Arab states are playing hard ball to frustration of Antony Blinken traveling with the Israeli demands in his business case.

Biden and Netanyahu both agree ... the evil alliance of Russia-Iran-China should be dismantled. For Joe and Vlad it has become personal. A sovereign Israel cannot survive on its own.

It's unbelievable that Haaretz reports that Biden and Blinken are telling Congress that they will not be withholding funding from the IDF units that committed atrocities in the West Bank against Palestinians and US citizens. They allegedly said it's because Israel has taken remedial steps and the incidents happened before October 7th. So, once again, Israeli state sponsored acts of murder, torture, and terrorism have a 5 month statute of limitations. This even when the genocide is still on-going! We were giving Israel $3.5 billion per year under a 10 year plan before Congress gave them a $26 billion windfall. 9 billion of that is going to Bezalel Smotrich for "humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza". He's the same guy who froze our flour shipment and refuses to give Palestinians any of the tariff money Israel collects for the PA under the Oslo Accords. Between Trump, Biden, and RFK Jr. you have to wonder if the primary system is designed to weed out the 330 million more qualified people?

Biden refuses to sanction Israeli units behind 'gross' war crimes, 26 Apr
ABC News
reported on 26 April that a government assessment determined that three battalions in the Israeli army committed "gross human rights violations" against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank "but will remain eligible for US military aid regardless because of steps Israel says it's taking to address the problem."

The assessment, which has not been made public, was outlined in a letter written by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to House Speaker Mike Johnson, which the news network obtained.

palestinechronicle | Immediate Measures' - Israeli Officials Attempt to Counter Possible ICC Arrest Warrants, 25 Apr
The measures included launching a diplomatic pressure campaign progress meeting and activating Israel's international tools to prevent the International Criminal Court (ICC) from issuing arrest warrants. The NSC-approved measures included phone calls between Netanyahu and his international counterparts, putting pressure on the US administration and involving the Israeli Ambassador to Washington, Michael Herzog, in these efforts.

On Wednesday, Netanyahu held telephone conversations with his counterparts in the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and Austria, urging them to exert political pressure on the court in favor of Israel. The Minister of Strategic Affairs, Ron Dermer, and the Israeli ambassador to Washington also held talks with officials in President Joe Biden's administration and members of Congress. In addition to this, the channel [MEMO.com] noted that there has been "enormous pressure on the American administration to intervene on behalf of Israel" in this issue.

My recent writings on the Gaza atrocities ... unimaginable, people of the human race are in a mindset of such a slaughter ... this is not a liberal democracy, but blind hate founded in stupendous religious fanaticism ... only America could have stopped the genocide ... once again they not only failed but were complicit in the act by providing unlimited lethal weapons, systems and aircraft ... gross failure too of the European Commission with former German Defense Minister Ursula Von der Leyen as leader. 🔥 🔥 🔥

Pure terrorism of the worst kind with unlimited military might decimating a civilian population ... HATE written all of the wall.
