Little Gaza In California

JDL thugs described in media as "counter-protesters" 🥵

Violence, chaos erupts on campuses as protesters and counter-protesters clash over the war massacre in Gaza

Fifteen people were injured during the UCLA confrontation, including one person who was hospitalized, according to the president of the University of California system. The chaotic scenes unfolded Wednesday after police burst into a building occupied by anti-war protesters at Columbia University on Tuesday night, breaking up a demonstration that had paralyzed the school.
Chancellor Gene Block at UCLA said in a statement that "a group of instigators" came on campus Tuesday night to "forcefully attack" the pro-Palestinian encampment, prompting the school to ask for assistance from outside law enforcement.

Counter-protesters, a few of whom were carrying Israeli flags, had thrown traffic cones and chairs, released pepper spray, and pulled down the barricade surrounding the encampment. Some from the pro-Palestinian camp hopped over the barriers and clashed with the other group.

After a couple of hours of scuffles, police wearing helmets and face shields separated the groups. Later Wednesday, pro-Palestinian protesters rebuilt a barricade around their encampment. There were no counter-protesters in sight, and law enforcement officers were deployed throughout the campus.

Many protesters, some of whom are Jewish, reject allegations of antisemitism.

UCLA officials declared on Tuesday that the encampment was unlawful, violated university policy and included people unaffiliated with the campus.

"A devastating night of violence," says JVP protester

Footage from the early hours showed counter-demonstrators, many of them masked and some apparently older than students, throwing objects and trying to smash or pull down the wooden and steel barriers erected to shield the encampment.

Some screamed pro-Jewish comments as pro-Palestinian protesters tried to fight them off.

Meir Weinstein is the head of the Jewish Defense League (JDL) of Canada, an extremist group whose members have a history of violent threats, racism and harassment against Palestinian activists in the country.

The US branch of the JDL was branded a terrorist organization by the FBI, after a campaign of anti-Palestinian and Islamophobic bombings there.

York University informed Weinstein that he was “prohibited from entering the York University campuses at any time from this day forward for any reason whatsoever.”

Canada’s pro-Israel groups are even said to have succeeding in getting the Prime Minister, the Premier of Ontario, the Mayor of Toronto and numerous other politicians to denounce directly or indirectly the small business that has “I love Gaza” painted on its window.

Several other anti-Palestinian groups have put out dozens of tweets supporting efforts to bankrupt Hawkins.

The Israel-based International Legal Forum is said to have filed a complaint with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario against the business owner. In what appears to be worrying signs indicating further misuse of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of anti-Semitism, they are claiming that under its stipulations she should be charged with discrimination.

The IHRA controversially conflates legitimate criticism of Israel and its policies with racism against Jews.

Risk of losing the narrative, fascists use Kahane thugs to beat peaceful protesters, provocations to smear campus protesters as a "mob."

Inflamed GOP-Israel Lobby in extra time to silence genocide protesters on campuses | Tikun Olam |

[UPDATE:] The police riots on college campuses are aimed to smear the student protest movement by associating it with violence and chaos. That is what happened at UCLA where pro-Israel thugs threw explosive devices and used weapons to physically assault students.

That is what happened at Columbia where riot police broke into a dormitory and violently evicted peaceful protestors arresting 100. The administration has declared they will be expelled (not suspended). This is another attempt to turn non-violent students into law-breakers in the eyes of the public.

This mayhem is what administrators want. After all, that is why they summon police to their campuses. They know what the result will be.  IF they don't, then they are fools and haven't been watching the mass violence perpetrated on Black communities throughout the nation for years.

That is also what the Israel Lobby wants. To discredit the protest movement by making it appear to be a violent mob; when the real violence, the genocide is perpetrated by Israel.

All this must not distract from the righteousness of the cause. If the student protest movement continues and enlarges, as it has so far, the US will have to acknowledge the justice of the cause.  It will continue to focus the country's gaze on Gaza and Israel's genocide.

There are now over 70 120 Gaza encampments or protests at US universities, in addition 20 campuses internationally. Besides demanding an end to the war in Gaza and criticizing US support for it, students also are pressuring their institutions to divest endowments of companies which benefit from Israeli occupation.

In some cases, they are also calling for the end of educational partnership and study abroad programs with Israeli universities. Many of the issues raised in these protests are familiar. Students and faculty have for years sought divestment and opposed Israeli occupation.

whitehouse.gov | Remarks by President Biden on Recent Events on College Campuses (02.05.24)
We are not an authoritarian nation where we silence people or squash dissent.  The American people are heard.  In fact, peaceful protest is in the best tradition of how Americans respond to consequential issues. But—but neither are we a lawless country. We are a civil society, and order must prevail. People have the right to get an education, the right to get a degree, the right to walk across the campus safely without fear of being attacked....There should be no place on any campus, no place in America for antisemitism or threats of violence against Jewish students. There is no place for hate speech or violence of any kind, whether it's antisemitism, Islamophobia, or discrimination against Arab Americans or Palestinian Americans. It's simply wrong.  There is no place for racism in America. It's all wrong. It's un-American.

Google downplays its military work with Israel, but "Project Nimbus" documents tie the American tech giants to Israel's deadly military capabilities | The Intercept |

Google and Amazon are both loath to discuss security aspects of the cloud services they provide through their joint contract with the Israeli government, known as Project Nimbus. Though both the Ministry of Defense and Israel Defense Forces are Nimbus customers, Google routinely downplays the military elements while Amazon says little at all.

According to a 63-page Israeli government procurement document, however, two of Israel's leading state-owned weapons manufacturers are required to use Amazon and Google for cloud computing needs. Though details of Google and Amazon's contractual work with the Israeli arms industry aren't laid out in the tender document, which outlines how Israeli agencies will obtain software services through Nimbus, the firms are responsible for manufacturing drones, missiles, and other weapons Israel has used to bombard Gaza.

Why Arabs do not support Palestine? 1 May
There are several main reasons for this inaction. The first important factor is the change in the identity of the Arab people. Traditionally, Arab people used to enjoy four complementary as well as competing political identities. From the narrowest to the most comprehensive ones, they were baladiyyah (local or sub-national identity), wataniyyah (national, state-level identity), qawmiyyah (large-scale ethnic or pan-Arabic identity), and diniyyah (religious or Islamic identity). Although their relevance changed from time to time, they were all relevant for almost all Arab societies. Pan-Arabic and Islamic identities were more dominant politically. Most Arabs were interested in Arab and Islamic issues. The Palestinian cause, both an Arab and an Islamic issue, was at the heart of these two identities.

However, the relevance of these identities has largely changed after the Arab insurgencies and revolutions in 2011....

Society unorganized
The second most important factor was the suppression of organized Arab civil institutions....
Economic aspect
Third, many Arabs, whose first and foremost priorities are their economic gains, do not want to abandon their comfort and wealth....
Western impact
Fourth, Arab governments are threatened by Western states. The pro-Israeli global powers have been threatening pro-Palestinian governments and actors....
Be that as it may, I'm left to wonder, if "pro-Israeli" crusaders' epic D&C operation has finally succeeded, what will total victory look like after all the "Islamists" have exterminated each other?

Türkiye not intimidated by threat of Western retaliation, 3 May

We are aware that what we are doing right now is the right thing to do....Türkiye's move will be an example for other countries," he said.
Türkiye is negotiating "with our Palestinian brothers on alternative arrangements to ensure that they are not affected by this decision," Bolat said in Istanbul while announcing April trade figures.

NY Yella Cake | Israeli Military Finds Flotilla Killings Justified, 12 July
An Israeli military investigation into its naval takeover of a Gaza-bound flotilla six weeks ago found that it was plagued by errors of planning, intelligence and coordination but that the killings of nine Turks on board were justified, according to an official summary of the findings released Monday.

Giora Eiland, a retired major general who led the inquiry, presented his classified findings to the military chief of staff; they were not released to the public. But a statement issued by the military said that the investigators faulted the military for not knowing who was on board one of the ships. A senior officer involved in the report said that at least 65 Turkish Islamic militants armed with metal sticks and knives were on the flotilla's main ship, and had vowed to fight any effort by the Israeli Navy to board.

The ["]scuffles["] that ensued led to Israeli commandos shooting the nine Turks, including one with dual Turkish-American citizenship.

telesur | Israel Hinders Arrival of 'The Freedom Flotilla' to Gaza, 2 May
"Israel prevented the departure from Istanbul of the Flotilla ships with hundreds of human rights observers, international press, and 5,500 tons of humanitarian aid," said "Heading to Gaza," a Spanish organization taking part in the coalition.
freedomflotilla.org | Press Releases
On April 26, a spokesperson for the Israeli Army said that any arrival of aid to Gaza other than by air, land crossings, or the Israeli port of Ashdod will be considered a "provocation," as reported by EFE agency.

In a joint statement issued that same day, United Nations special rapporteurs Francesca Albanese, Michael Fakhri, and Balakrishnan Rajagopal called on Israel to "comply with international law, including recent orders from the International Court of Justice [ICJ], on ensuring the unhindered arrival of humanitarian aid" for the Gazan population.

Society unorganized

The second most important factor was the suppression of organized Arab civil institutions. The most effective movements and socio-political actors during the Arab uprisings and revolutions were mainstream Islamic organizations.

The Muslim Brotherhood, which was the largest organized and Islamic-oriented civil society institution in the Arab world, was one of the main carriers of revolutions and democratic change in the region. It came to power in several Arab states after free democratic elections.

However, although it negates the use of violence, the Muslim Brotherhood, together with Hamas, was declared a terrorist organization by the Egyptian regime and several other Arab states in 2014. Today, there is no strong organized society in the Arab world to react to the Israeli atrocities against Muslim Arab people.

From negotiation to "soft Nakba": Israel's Plans for Gaza and the Role of the US

The US administration, through its Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and other spokespeople, has declared that "Israel made a generous offer to Hamas, and the ball is now in its court." These statements, reiterated by US officials across various Middle Eastern capitals, seek to absolve Israel of its responsibility for placing barriers in the way of already challenging negotiations and bolster Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amidst the deadlock he faces due to limited viable options to end the conflict. Netanyahu opposes a permanent ceasefire, opting instead for a merely sustainable one, and rejects both a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the entire Gaza Strip and the unrestricted return of all displaced northerners to their homes without Israeli military oversight of the demographics of returning Gazans. The US administration consistently seizes every opportunity, regardless of scale, to affirm its complete collaboration with the ongoing deprivation and violence in Palestine. Moreover, it eagerly anticipates the completion of the sea pier by mid-May, which will facilitate Palestinian emigration and assist Israel in managing the impending Palestinian "soft Nakba" camouflaged with humanitarian assistance.

In Cairo, separate delegations from Hamas and Qatar have convened with CIA Director William Burns, who travelled to Egypt despite Israeli officials' complain, before Hamas's official response to the Israeli ceasefire proposal. These delegations continue to negotiate ceasefire terms, harbouring limited optimism that all issues will be resolved, mainly if Netanyahu is unable to devise an exit strategy to avoid calls for his resignation due to unmet war objectives in Gaza. An Israeli delegation may join later, contingent on Netanyahu's readiness to halt hostilities and navigate a precarious situation without a clear victory for his administration. Meanwhile, the US - that its support to Israel is non-flexible - presses for an end to a conflict adversely affecting its domestic presidential elections and international standing.

NY Yella Cake | Israeli Officials Weigh Sharing Power With Arab States in Postwar Gaza
"it signals that Israel is thinking about the future, and could inform future talks"

For months, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel has avoided detailed public discussion about Gaza Israel's postwar future. Trying to placate both his far-right allies party, who seek to rebuild Israeli settlements in Gaza, and Israel's foreign partners, who want Gaza returned to Palestinian governance [FALSE], Mr. Netanyahu has stopped short of any specific declaration.

Behind the scenes, however, senior officials in his office have been weighing an expansive plan for post-war Israel, in which Israel would offer [!] to share oversight of the territory with an alliance of Arab countries, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the United States, according to three Israeli officials and five people who have discussed the plan with members of the Israeli government.

According to that proposal, Israel would do so in exchange for normalized relations between itself and Saudi Arabia, according to the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity given the sensitivity of the matter incredibility of the story.

Under the proposal, the < wipes tears > Arab-Israeli alliance, working with the United States, would appoint Gazan leaders to redevelop the devastated territory, overhaul its education system and maintain order. After < wipes tears > between seven and 10 years, the alliance would allow Gazans to vote on whether to be absorbed into a united Palestinian administration that would govern in both Gaza and the Israeli-occupied West Bank, according to the proposal. In the meantime, the plan suggests, the Israeli military could continue to operate inside OCCUPY Gaza [AND THE WEST BANK].
Or would this confederacy of lying, homicidal sacks of sh!t prefer another helping of hell, no, in exchange for return of Israeli hostages, dead or alive?
The proposal does not explicitly say whether that ["]united administration["] would constitute a sovereign Palestinian state, or if it would include the Palestinian Authority, which administers parts of the West Bank.
