Cairo Negotiations In Do Or Die Phase

by Oui Sun May 5th, 2024 at 09:19:24 AM EST

Both to ease tension with Hezbollah on the North Frontier and the crucial Gaza Strip Israel aim to develop as part of Israel proper and build Mediterranean Sea Side Resort. In the while conquering all off-shore gas deposits now belonging to Palestinian authority ... nice instalment to pay damages for the Hamas 10/7 attack and subsequent demolition of Gaza residential buildings to weed out the animals wherever they are hiding. Netanyahu with his powerful right-wing cabal of Ben Gvir and Smotrich will go for "total victory" and destroy what is now Rafah residential border area and home to 1.4 million Palestinians.

Israel discusses utopian plan to transform Gaza into 'Singapore on the Mediterranean' after the war | All Israel News |

Netanyahu reportedly not willing to discuss plans openly for fear of right-wing partners

Much has been written about possible Israeli plans for the Gaza Strip after the end of the war. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been intensely criticized for his lack of willingness so far to discuss his vision for the enclave publicly.

On Friday, The New York Times reported that the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has been examining an ambitious plan that would see Israel manage the Gaza Strip together with other Arab countries for several years before control would be passed to the Palestinians.

The plan was reportedly drawn up by a group of businessmen in November, most of them Israeli and some of them close to Netanyahu, and was first proposed to the PMO in December.

According to the NYT, in return for normalization with Saudi Arabia, Israel would agree to share control over Gaza with the Saudi Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and the United States for several years.

Below the fold more on the success story ... Gazans from goats to glory.

The Israeli news outlet Ynet first reported the plan in March, calling it "Netanyahu's plan to turn Gaza into a kind of Singapore."

Singapore is a commonly used reference for economic success in Israeli politics, as the island nation became an economic miracle while dealing with similarly adverse circumstances as the Jewish state.

On Friday Ynet for the first time shared a presentation of the plan titled, "From crisis to prosperity - a plan for the transformation of the Gaza Strip from Iranian aggression to the moderate axis."

Reality of the day ... most important 48 hours to a deadline of one week. Close negotiations are coordinated on the Northern Frontier with Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Qatari delegation with Hamas in Cairo with a role for the US, Saudi Arabia (indirect), Emirates and not yet committed, negotiators send by Netanyahu's war cabinet.

The strong sentiment to invade Rafah at any cost to detriment of some 100 Israeli captives, comes from Netanyahu's Kahanist ministers who demand total destruction of Rafah so the redevelopment of Gush Katif settlement and surroundings can start. UN agencies have already dubbed the clearing of debris an Herculaneum task of decades.

Hamas indicates it may agree to deal; Israeli official insists truce won't end war, 4 May

Israeli officials insisted Israel would not agree to any truce deal that provides for an end to the war, and an official widely believed to be Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was quoted saying Israel had not empowered mediators to make such a commitment either.

And a senior Hamas official denied late Saturday that there had been developments in the talks, and insisted the terror group would "not agree under any circumstances" to a truce that did not explicitly include a complete end to the war, including the IDF's full withdrawal from Gaza.

APsplainin | Israel says a humanitarian crossing into Gaza has come under fire, forcing it to close - VIDEO update 05.05.24

Israel on Sunday said a major crossing point used to deliver humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip came under fire, forcing it to close. The Israeli military reported 10 launches at the Kerem Shalom crossing. It gave no details on the source of fire, but said it had come from the direction of the nearby Rafah crossing on the Egyptian border.
NATANYAHU: Throughout the negotiations, Israel has demonstrate willingness to go a long way. A long way that was described by US Secretary of State Blinken and others as 'extraordinarily generous'. But while Isral showed this willingnes, Hamas remained entrenche in extreme positions and on top among their demands to withdraw all our forces from the Strip, end the war and leave Hamas intact. The Stae of Israel cannot accept this. We arenot ready to accept a situation in which the Hamas battalions come out of their holes, take control of Gaza agin, rebulid their military infrastructure, and return to threate the citizens of Israel in the surrounding communities in the south, in all parts of the country. In this case, the next 7th of October is only a matter of time. Surrendering to the demands of Hamas would be a terrible defeat for the State of Israel. It will be a huge victory for Hamas, for Iran, for the entire axis of evil. It will project a terrible weakness—both to our friends and to our enemies. And this weakness wil only bring the next war closer and it will pushe the next peace agreement furhter away. Because alliances are not made with the weak and defeated, alliances are made with the strong and victorious. Therefore, Israel will not agree to Hamas's demands, which mean surrender and will continue fighting untill all of its goals are achieved.

Pro-Rafah invasion protests escalate amid reports Hamas will accept hostage deal | JPost |

Sunday's march followed a similar protest led by the Valor Forum Saturday night, following Saturday's reports that Hamas will likely accept a hostage deal in the coming days.

The forum criticized ongoing talks with Hamas, saying that "Disgracefully, in addition to fading on the battlefield in the past few months, there is negotiation with sub-humans who slaughtered us."

In some ways, fascist Josep Borrell was right ... outside the Garden in the Jungle live the wild beasts ... shameful, unending hatred and provocations for more war ... the terms peace and left have been banned forever.

Live blog: Israel vows Rafah invasion 'imminent' as ceasefire talks end | TRT World |

Israel's war on Gaza, now in its 212th day, has killed at least 34,683 Palestinians -- 70 percent of them babies, children and women -- and wounded over 78,018.

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said that a planned ground attack on Rafah in southern Gaza is "imminent."

"We are observing worrying signs that Hamas does not intend to reach an agreement with us," Gallant told army troops in central Gaza's Netzarim Corridor.

"This means the operation in Rafah is imminent."

Despite growing international opposition, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to invade Rafah, home to more than 1.4 million displaced Palestinians, to defeat what he calls the "remaining Hamas battalions."

Rafah is the last remaining area in Gaza where Israel has not yet formally announced the entry of its troops to continue the onslaught against Palestinians.

On other hand, a Hamas official told AFP that the group's negotiators in Cairo were leaving for Doha after talks ended in the Egyptian capital, part of mediation efforts towards a truce in Gaza.

"The meeting with the Egyptian intelligence minister has ended and the Hamas delegation is leaving for Doha for further consultations," said the official, who is close to the negotiations, requesting anonymity as he was not authorised to publicly discuss the talks.

CIA chief Burns to meet Netanyahu amid last-ditch efforts to reach deal between Israel, Hamas | TOI |

A meeting between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and CIA chief William Burns will take place in Jerusalem in the early afternoon, an Israeli official tells The Times of Israel.

Intensive efforts by the US, Egypt, and Qatar to mediate a deal between Israel and Hamas collapsed over the weekend, and the CIA director is working to find a way to keep hope alive for a deal even as Israel begins to evacuate civilians from parts of Rafah in advance of a likely military operation.

Burns departed Cairo for Doha to hold talks with Qatar's prime minister yesterday, and is in Israel today.

ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan's bias risks exonerating Israel of genocide in Gaza | Arab News - 10 Dec 2023 |

Khan's clear bias towards Israel strongly suggests he aims to clear Israel of war crimes charges while actively seeking to convict Hamas of them. This strategy is grounded in the court's complementarity principle which could give Israel a get out of court card.

Indeed, in a recent op-ed in The Guardian on November 10th, Khan abandoned the crucial presumption of innocence, a cornerstone of fair trials that presumes a person innocent until proven guilty. He embraced Israeli claims and misinformation regarding Hamas's alleged crimes, including burning and raping Israelis, asserting, "We can't live in a world where executions, burnings, rapes, and killings are normalized or even celebrated."

Khan didn't shy away from passing judgment either, taking the October 7th operation out of its context of resistance against settler-colonialism and framing it as terrorism in the name of Islam. He said, "These are the most un-Islamic acts and cannot be committed in the name of a religion that signifies peace." Khan committed to holding those responsible for organizing and executing the operation accountable. He expressed readiness to collaborate with Israeli authorities and the families of victims in Israel to ensure justice for the victims of Hamas's alleged crimes.

Absolving Israel of genocide?

After his trip to Israel, Khan's office released a statement labelling Hamas as a terrorist organization and condemning their use of hostages as 'human shields'. Khan said he visited Kibbutz Beeri, Kfar Azza, and the Nova Music Festival site in Re'im. He said he witnessed what he called "calculated cruelty," portraying it as one of the most dangerous international crimes that shake humanity's conscience.
