In the brief space of three and one-haft years, the people of the United States have come to realize, with tragic consequences, that our National Government cannot be trusted to the hands of political amateurs, dominated by representatives of special privilege.

Four years ago they were beguiled, by empty promises and pledges, to elect as President a recent convert to Republicanism. Our people have now learned that the party of Lincoln has been made captive to big businessmen with small minds. They have found that they are now ruled by a Government which they did not elect, and to which they have not given their consent. Their awareness of this fact was demonstrated in 1954 when they returned control of the legislative machinery of the Federal Government to the 84th Democratic Congress.

From the wreckage of American world leadership under a Republican Administration, this great Democratic Congress has salvaged a portion of the world prestige our Nation enjoyed under the brilliant Administrations of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman.

Our Democratic 84th Congress made one of the greatest legislative records in the history of our country. It enacted an active program of progressive, humane legislation, which has repudiated the efforts of reactionary Republicanism to stall America's progress. When we return to the halls of Congress next January, and with a Democratic President in the White House, it will be the plan and purpose of our Party to complete restoration and rehabilitation of American leadership in world affairs. We pledge return of our National Government to its rightful owners, the people of the United States.

On the threshold of an atomic age, in mid-Twentieth Century, our beloved Nation needs the vision, vigor and vitality which can be infused into it only by a government under the Democratic Party.

I. Foreign Policy and National Defense

The Democratic Party affirms that world peace is a primary objective of human society. Peace is more than a suspension of shooting while frenzied and fearful nations stockpile armaments of annihilation.

Achievement of world peace requires political statesmanship and economic wisdom, international understanding and dynamic leadership. True peace is the tranquillity of ordered justice on a global scale. It may be destroyed without a shot being fired. It can be fostered and preserved only by the solid unity and common brotherhood of the peoples of the world in the cause of freedom.

The hopes and aspirations of the peoples of all nations for justice and peace depend largely upon the courageous and enlightened administration of the foreign and defense policies of the United States. We deplore the fact that the administration of both policies since 1953 has confused timidity with courage, and blindness with enlightenment.

We in America need to make our peaceful purpose clear beyond dispute in every corner of the world--yet Secretary Dulles brags of "brinks of war." We need a foreign policy which rises above jockeying for partisan position or advantage--yet, not in memory has there been so little bipartisanship in the administration of our policies, so little candor in their Presentation to our people, so much pretending that things are better than they are.

The Republican Bluster and Bluff.

Four years ago the Republican Party boasted of being able to produce a foreign policy which was to free the Communist satellites, unleash Chiang Kai-shek, repudiate the wartime agreements, and reverse the policy of containing Communist expansion.

Since 1953 they have done just the opposite, standing silent when the peoples rise in East Germany and Poland, and thereby weakening the positive Democratic policy of halting Communist expansion.

The news of Vice President Kamala Harris' run for the top of the Democratic ticket has energized the Black community, especially Black women, a critical Democratic voting bloc. She recently delivered a keynote address at AKA's biennial convention on July 10, urging the room full of women to take on an active role in keeping Donald Trump out of office. She told the nearly 20,000 members in attendance that 2024 is the "most existential, consequential, and important election of our lifetime." 

Leaders of AKA and the eight other organizations in the Divine 9, a coalition of historically Black fraternities and sororities under the National Pan-Hellenic Council, have already hit the ground running with a public endorsement of Harris for president.

    "The Dems should nominate Kennedy. He is the only candidate under consideration who can beat Trump," the message read, according to a copy obtained by the Post. "Please give it some thought. Kennedy would win, the Dems would keep the White House, and Americans would avoid the Trump reprise that so many across this nation dread." Klain said in a text message Wednesday that he heard secondhand that the Kennedy campaign was trying to reach him, but that he did not respond to the request.

In other words, Kennedy--or someone working for him--apparently thought that he should replace Biden on the Democratic ticket, and after that pipe dream didn't come to pass, tried to land a position in a potential Harris administration, which also went nowhere, which left him no choice but to throw a fit.

The Hill/Decision Desk HQ's national polling index currently shows Kennedy with just 3.5 percent support.

Vice President Harris, who rose to the top of the Democratic ticket after Biden's withdrawal from the race, is leading former President Trump by 1.8 percent -- 49 percent to 47.2 percent respectively. With Kennedy added in, Harris garners 47.5 percent compared to Trump's 43.7, per the polling average.

The latest New York Times/Siena College poll, released Saturday, showed Kennedy with 4 percent support in the four Sun Belt battleground states. 

Despite lambasting Kennedy's campaign work, O'Reilly complimented the independent presidential candidate past environmental efforts. 

"I always said, and will continue to say, that man did a tremendous job cleaning up the Hudson River in New York and running an organization called River keepers, tremendous job," O'Reilly said.

He rightly stepped aside after his disastrous debate with Donald Trump, but he continues to lose a far more disastrous debate with Israel's Prime Minister, weakening the basic principles of US foreign policy.

Alongside his humiliating failure to achieve any "red lines" on civilian casualties, Gaza is having significant, long-term moral impacts on Christianity and Judaism.

So far, Democratic Convention organizers -- and nominee Kamala Harris -- have not agreed to any airtime for Gaza. Yet simply saying "Trump would be worse" to the Uncommitted million primary voters, and the protesters outside, will devalue whatever feel-good effect she may achieve.

As a Holocaust survivor's son, I was raised to despise antisemitism and support Israel. Over five Middle East visits, however, I learned that Israel is not the beleaguered little guy, but a country enabled by blank-check US supportto operate without normal political consequences. Our billions in military aid strengthen the most repressive elements of Israeli society, which denies most Palestinians citizenship. Thus, while criticizing Israel's government is not antisemitic, the worldwide rise in antisemitism reacting to Gaza is alarming and unsurprising.

To a Presbyterian ethicist, Gaza clearly violates the "Just War" principles of proportionality, avoidance of civilian casualties, and goal of a just peace. Israel's use of enormous bombs is indiscriminate as the Israeli Army authorizes massive casualties in pursuit of combatants -- including 17,000 children, so far.

Aryeh Neier, the co-founder of Human Rights Watch, concludes that yoking one-sided onslaught and deliberate starvation constitutes a genocide. Destroying universities, schools, mosques, churches, libraries, and hospitals -- a cultural genocide -- makes "just peace" less likely.

Diplomats' resignations underline our complicity and isolation as Israel's defender at the United Nations, blocking humanitarian aid and ceasefires. Both Christianity and Judaism -- assumed to influence US and Israeli policy -- are discredited when basic moral intuitions are disregarded.

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, warned his fellow Texas Republicans on Thursday not to take his reelection for granted.

The poll was conducted between June 20 and July 1, encompassing Biden's latest debate with Trump that dealt a blow to the top of the Democratic ticket.

But Republican fortunes could flip if Biden steps aside as the Democratic nominee -- which Cruz predicts likely -- saying it will offer a media boon for Vice President Kamala Harris, he said.

"I want you to envision the billions of dollars of free media where they're going to describe Kamala as the combination of Mother Theresa, Oprah and Gandhi," Cruz said. "You're going to hear that laugh so much you're going to wake up at night."

After Falsely Accusing Kamala Harris of Using AI, Donald Trump Posts AI Slop About Her on Twitter

This is getting ridiculous.

Trump didn't caption the AI-spun image. But shared ahead of this week's Democratic National Convention in Chicago, the image is clearly intended to suggest that Harris -- Trump's Democratic rival in the 2024 election -- is a communist, and that the forthcoming convention will be akin to a Marxist rally.

The former president has repeatedly referred to Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, as communists in recent weeks, for example telling Fox News earlier this month that theirs "is a ticket that would want this country to go communist immediately, if not sooner."

What's more, in an incredible twist of irony, Trump falsely accused Harris just last week of using AI to drum up fake imagery of a large crowd greeting her at the airport. The photos, of course, were real.

Of course today in Dutch corporate media framed the policy in Kamala Harris' speech as "leftist." ... what an utter horse manure. Children of 14 years Mark Rutte.

Grisham, who was criticized for never holding a press briefing during her tenure, resigned on Jan. 6, 2021, as rioters assaulted the Capitol and Trump said nothing to stop them. 

"I wasn't just a Trump supporter, I was a true believer," Grisham told the DNC crowd. "I was one of his closest advisers. The Trump family became my family. I spent Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's all at Mar-a-Lago. I saw him when the cameras were off. Behind closed doors, Trump mocks his supporters. He calls them basement dwellers."

Grisham recalled a hospital visit when Americans were dying at the ICU and she said he was upset the cameras weren't on him. 

"He has no empathy, no morals, and no fidelity to the truth," she said. "He used to tell me, 'It doesn't matter what you say, Stephanie -- say it enough and people will believe you.' But it does matter. What you say matters. And what you don't say matters."

Navarro blasted Trump for calling Harris a "communist."

"Let's be serious," Navarro said. "Donald Trump and his minions call Kamala a communist. I know communism. I fled communism from Nicaragua when I was 8 years old. I don't take it lightly."

I hate Kamala Harris for lauding former VP Dick Cheney ... the greatest source of evil in American policy from torture by military, invasion and occupation of Iraq. Cheney pushed NATO to expand into Georgia (see August 2008) and Ukraine. Similar to the Neocons and intelligence spooks endorsing HRC for president in 2016. No change ... more of the same. Troubles across the globe today started under eight years during the Bush-Cheney administration.

Harris baits Trump into missed opportunities

Harris came into the debate with the hope of rattling Trump, and she appeared to succeed at some moments, baiting the president into a defensive posture rather than highlighting his strongest issue: concerns about inflation and the cost of living.

She attacked him on abortion rights, linked him to the right-wing policy blueprint Project 2025, highlighted his praise for Chinese President Xi Jinping around the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. Both times, he jumped in to defend himself. She invited Americans to watch a Trump rally.

"He talks about fictional characters like Hannibal Lecter. He will talk about `windmills cause cancer.' And what you will also notice is that people start leaving his rallies early out of exhaustion and boredom," Harris said, looking into the camera.

That didn't sit well with Trump, who said he has "the most incredible rallies in the history of politics" and went on a tangent by citing a debunked conspiracy theory about some migrants eating pets. "They're eating the dogs, the people that came in, they're eating the cats," Trump said.

As I said a few days ago, the debate is for Trump to lose ... exactly what happened ... outpaced by a strong woman, Kamala Harris. 💪🏽

Routh told the publication Semafor last year that he was director of a group he called International Volunteer Center as part of his attempts to support Ukraine's war against Russia.

Routh spoke of his frustration with Ukraine over what he said were roadblocks to admitting foreign fighters, including Afghan commandos, who either volunteered or were available to join Ukraine's war effort.

"Ukraine is very often hard to work with," he told Semafor. "They're afraid that anybody and everybody is a Russian spy."

On X, he frantically tweeted at President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with his ideas -- for instance, "to use Independence Park to create a tent city of all the foreigners here in support to get thousands more foreign civilians to come and support Ukraine."

In an interview with Newsweek, Romania, in 2022, Routh said he was 56 at the time and that he was from North Carolina and had flown to Ukraine from Hawaii. He complained about U.S. leadership as it related to Ukraine and urged greater support for the country from the U.S. government.

"This conflict is definitely black and white," he said. "This is about good versus evil."

It follows the arrest of Ryan Wesley Routh in Florida, after secret service officers opened fire on a man armed with an assault rifle, concealed in woodland where Mr Trump was playing golf.

Donald Trump said of the suspect:  "He believed the rhetoric of Biden and Harris, and he acted on it... Their rhetoric is causing me to be shot at, when I am the one who is going to save the country, and they are the ones that are destroying the country -- both from the inside and out."

The back-to-back incidents have historic echoes. In September 1975, President Gerald Ford escaped two assassination attempts, one in Sacramento and the other in San Francisco.

Like with this summer's political violence, the attempts to kill Ford shocked the nation.

Here is a retrospective of what happened taken from the pages of the Los Angeles Times.

See the tumultueus election year 1968 with two political assassinations. I understand in 1975-76 there were two assassination attempts on sitting President Gerald Ford ... he too was not loved by mainstream America.

In the 1960s then too there was hatred between political parties ... Kennedy knew the animosity in Texas and particularly in Dallas against his person. JFK had the courage not to shun dangers and relied on the Secret Service and his security detail. Texas political bosses and Dallas police department were not kind to Democrats (Kennedy's) from Washington DC.

We can't influence the outcome of the U.S. Presidential election one way or the other. The world has been suffering since the Bush-Cheney years ... didn't get any better with Obama-Biden as the reflex inside America was more racism and white supremacy. The old colonial instincts triumphed. The Old South sought revenge for degrading their Civil War heroes .. part of history.

The four years of Trump-Pompeo were disastrous as MAGA survived and was picked-up by Biden-Harris to sanction Iran after failed revival of JCPOA as Joe wanted to please friend Netanyahu and push through the Abraham Accords w/o Palestinians and w/o peace. Joe fell flat on his face. Joe pushed the Ukraine war ... didn't go quite as he hoped for ... Europe in crisis, one competitor left behind with economic damage and years of recovery ahead.

The sanctions on China too intensified under Joe Biden. Blinken an intelligent person but failed on all fronts in diplomacy. America going alone as superpower and becoming isolated as a result. Stronger ties with "friendly" nations and increased animosity with the nations of "darkness."

The US Secret Service says it is "aware" of a social media post by Elon Musk in which he said that "no one is even trying" to assassinate President Joe Biden or Vice-president Kamala Harris.

Mr Musk has since deleted the post and said it was intended as a joke.
His post on X, formerly Twitter, came just hours after the suspected attempted assassination of Donald Trump at his golf course in Florida on Sunday.

The tech billionaire is a close ally of Trump, who has vowed to enlist Mr Musk to run a "government efficiency commission" if he wins a second term as US president.

Many X users criticised Mr Musk's comments - which were accompanied by a raised eyebrow emoji - with some alleging that the post was a form of incitement against the US President and Vice President.

In a statement, the White House condemned the post, saying that "this rhetoric is irresponsible".

"Violence should only be condemned, never encouraged or joked about," the statement said, adding that there should be "no place for political violence or for any violence ever in our country".

When contacted by the BBC, the US Secret Service said only that it is "aware" of the post.
