President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the opening of the 78th UN General Assembly [2023]
My greetings to the President of the General Assembly, Ambassador Dennis Francis of Trinidad and Tobago.
It is a pleasure to be preceded by the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres.
I greet each of the Heads of State and Government and delegates present.
I pay homage to our compatriot Sérgio Vieira de Mello and 21 other employees of this Organization, victims of the brutal attack in Baghdad, 20 years ago.
I also wish to express my condolences to the victims of the earthquake in Morocco and the storms that hit Libya.
Like what happened recently in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in my country. These tragedies have claimed lives and caused irreparable losses.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all the victims and their families.

Open letter to Dilan Yesilgöz
There you were. Only months after you firmly stated that you would never sit in a cabinet with the PVV as a party. You were radiant and brimming with 'courage and pride'. You had done it beautifully. In an attempt to forget your own principles, a colorful series of contradictory words followed to justify your own choice. And in the meantime, you became false.
Sometimes you can be surprised by the words of politicians, but what you have been spouting in the last few months is far beyond satire. I don't even know where to begin. As a party, you proudly took a seat in a cabinet with a man who had previously firmly stated that you were not at all welcome as a person in the center of power.
Because of your Turkish roots.
In photos, you looked at him almost in amazement. To the man who would have personally ensured that you would never have set foot in the Netherlands as a child.
Watermelon
It is now clear to everyone that you do not take principles or the truth very seriously. With a feigned look of deep disgust, you recently took the Party for the Animal Welfare to task from the pulpit in The Hague. Because they had dared to offer support to the oppressed Palestinians by handing out watermelons.
You lied without batting an eyelid by linking the pro-Palestinian action as absolute support for terrorists of Hamas.
It was shameful to watch. You howled along with the false wolves in the forest, the verbal predators who consistently frame justified criticism of Israel's policy as hatred of Jews, in order to justify the deaths of thousands of children.

Zionism and Dutch liberals unite to destroy all traces of leftist politics, moral and ethical politics, get behind the immoral acts of America, UK and Israel to fight "terror" on our borders. Need to get rid of the United Nations [John Bolton & Co.], UN Aid Agencies too troublesome and the NGOs funded by "foreign" powers.

Next phase in right-wing fascism incorporated in Western politics ...
Universities welcomed their students back this fall with a set of policies designed to silence pro-Palestine speech and preemptively criminalize protest. Fortified by strategies from the security industry, they provide an administrative alibi for further militarizing campuses. Yet there's another, more insidious move at play, one belied by the fact that some universities house these new repressive policies under the guise "free speech" and student's rights. Across the county, universities are employing the right-wing tactic of weaponizing rights to quash dissent. In the process, we are seeing how the pretense of civil rights mobilizes a machinery of repression aimed to eradicate the movement for Palestinian liberation.
The effort we are seeing play out today is decades in the making - a strategy of the Eurocentric, anti-left organizations that have led Zionist politics. It has built deep roots in party politics, in civil institutions like universities, and among the corporate mega-donor class. Now the Zionist movement is joined by the well-resourced organizations of the white and religious right.
Title VI as a mechanism for weaponizing rights
The recent avalanche of civil rights lawsuits in response to Palestine campus protests is the result of an intentional Israel advocacy strategy: criminalizing anti-Zionist politics by contorting the idea of civil rights.
Using Title VI, complainants are seeking to codify baseless claims and contortions of notions of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) that have failed in other venues: for instance, claims that talking about Palestine is discriminatory toward Jews, that Zionism is itself a form of Jewish ethnic identity, or that Zionists must be "included" in anti-Zionist groups.
Attacks have focused on universities and K-12 schools because Trump-era policy makes educational institutions especially vulnerable. The Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights (OCR), during the reign of Trump appointee Kenneth Marcus, attached Title VI to the "IHRA definition of antisemitism."
Now, as OCR evaluates an avalanche of spurious antisemitism complaints, it must "consider" the thoroughly debunked claim that criticism of Israel is antisemitism.

Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) is a main target in these complaints, which operate as if merely mentioning the group offers evidence of antisemitism. Given the ADL and Brandeis letter calling for university presidents to investigate and criminalize SJP chapters on baseless charges of "material support" for terrorism, it is unsurprising that SJP is featured in the majority of complaints; in the Chapman University complaint, for instance, it is labeled plainly - and incorrectly - as an "anti-Jewish hate group."
