Does German Expert Condone IS-K Terror on Russia?

Islamic State-Khorasan: global jihad's new front | OSW by Krzysztof Strachota |

The attack on the Crocus City Hall in Krasnogorsk on 22 March which claimed the lives of 139 individuals was another spectacular terrorist attack carried out by Islamic State-Khorasan (ISIS-K) in recent months.

The previous attacks happened in Iran, Turkey and other countries, while those planned in Germany, Sweden and other locations were thwarted. These developments indicate that the organisation has modified its strategy, which until recently had focused on Afghanistan. They also suggest that ISIS-K has major potential for generating threats.

A unique feature of the present situation is the rapid increase in the participation of citizens of post-Soviet Central Asian states (mainly Tajikistan). However this mainly results from circumstances within Russia itself, which foster radicalisation. The risk of new attacks prepared or inspired by ISIS-K should be viewed as high.

Attack in Russia "comes at the perfect time for IS"

The individual pieces of the puzzle are creating an increasingly clear picture: The terrorist militia IS appears to be responsible for the deadly attack on a concert hall in Moscow, according to Michael Ortmann. According to the ntv terrorism expert, there are several arguments in favor of one motive in particular.

ISIS-K has carried out attacks in Afghanistan and abroad in the past, including on mosques. [Massacre in Kunduz October 2021]

Earlier this year, the US intercepted messages confirming that the group was behind a devastating bombing in Iran. The suicide attack on a memorial service in honor of General Kassem Soleimani, in the city of Kerman killed nearly 100 people. The IRGC Commander was killed four years ago. [assassinated in cruise missile strike on Baghdad, by U.S. coalition to "fight the Islamic State"]

Just two weeks ago, the Russian domestic intelligence service FSB announced that it had foiled an ISIS-K attack on a Moscow synagogue.

Russia got involved in the Syrian civil war in 2015 to support President Bashar al-Assad against the opposition, but also against the IS militia. If it turns out that Crocus City Hall Moscow attack was carried out by ISIS-K, that would be a dramatic escalation.

Experts say the extremist group has already increasingly opposed Russian President Vladimir Putin in recent years. "ISIS-K has focused on Russia over the past two years and has frequently attacked Putin in its propaganda," says Colin Clarke of the Soufan Center, a research group in New York.

Cybertruck that exploded outside Trump Las Vegas hotel was rented in Colorado | CPR News |

The Cybertruck detonated at the hotel at about 8:40 a.m. The person who was driving it died immediately and seven others standing nearby were injured, but not seriously, the sheriff's office in Las Vegas told reporters Wednesday.

"Obviously, a Cybertruck, the Trump hotel, there's lots of questions that we have to answer," Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill said at a press conference streamed on YouTube.

The U.S. Army on Thursday acknowledged the speculation around a former service member named by multiple media sources as the driver of the truck. He was Matthew "Matt" Livelsberger. CPR News confirmed that a 37-year-old man with that name has two addresses in Colorado Springs.

"Master Sgt. Matthew Alan Livelsberger enlisted as a 18 year old and served in the active duty Army from January 2006 to March 2011. Livelsberger then joined the National Guard from March 2011 to July 2012, followed by the Army Reserve from July 2012 to December 2012. He entered the active duty Army in December 2012 and was a U.S. Army Special Operations Soldier."

"Additionally, U.S. Army Special Operations Command can confirm Livelsberger was assigned to the command and on approved leave at the time of his death. USASOC is in full cooperation with federal and state law enforcement agencies, but as a matter of policy, will not comment on ongoing investigations."

The FBI Denver office issued a statement encouraging people to report information if they have it.

"While we don't have information indicating a local threat associated with this morning's incident in New Orleans, FBI Denver is working closely with our law enforcement partners to share information and identify and disrupt any threats that may emerge in our communities," the statement said.

Mr McMahill said there are several parallels - but no definitive link - between the suspects in the incident in Las Vegas and a truck attack in New Orleans that left 14 dead, which both took place on New Year's Day.

Both suspects served at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, though there is no record they served in same unit or were there at the same time. They also both served in Afghanistan in 2009, but there is no evidence they were in the same region or unit.

Both also used rental company Turo for the vehicles involved in the incidents, Mr McMahill said.

"We don't believe there's any further threat from this subject or anybody associated to him here in Las Vegas," he said.

You Created Global Terror after 9/11

In reference to Martin Longman's front page story - Declare the War on Terror Over.

If Peter Bergen is right and Ayman al-Zawahiri is the only still-living al-Qaeda leader of any consequence, then the president deserves some serious credit for getting the military focused on the main post-9/11 goal. And if Peter Bergen is right that we are 30 times more likely to be killed by lightning than to be killed by a jihadist terrorist, then I expect these drone strikes to stop. They appear to have been very effective in decimating al-Qaeda ...

I replied with my analysis ...

The foolish escapades of US Forces in Afghanistan - Iraq - Afghanistan and back home has succeeded in spreading the threat of terror across the globe. In addition, the situation has been aggravated  by the ignorant admirers of the State of Israel, its Armed Forces and the heavy-handed treatment of the Palestinian people in the occupied territories. All US war crimes have been mirrored to the IDF and IAF: imprisonment, mall treatment, torture, targeted killings with collateral damage (innocent civilians). Abu Ghraib, Fallujah, Guantanamo Bay and assassinations and air strikes by long range drone bombing are illustrations of these crimes. Remember, there was no Al-Qaeda in Iraq. Al-Qaeda are Sunni fighters and responsible for suicide attacks and car bombings.

We now have Al-Qaeda fighting in Syria, Northern Lebanon, Mali, Eritrea, Somalia, Nigeria and indeed Yemen. As long as the Western powers are allied to the Arabian oil fields of Qatar, UAE, Bahrein, Oman and Saudi Arabia they are exporting terror across the globe. These wealthy sheiks were responsible for funding the 9/11 attacks and most terror bombings from London, Madrid, Marocco, Nigeria, Syria, Yemen, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand extended to the Philippines.

Las Vegas Cybertruck explosion: Police look for clues in suspect's writings | ABC News - 1 hr ago |

Livelsberger served as a Green Beret in the Army and was on approved leave from serving in Germany at the time of his death, a U.S. Army spokesperson said Thursday.

He received extensive decorations in combat, including the Bronze Star with a "V" device for valor, indicating heroism under fire. Livelsberger received four more standard Bronze Star medals, according to Army records. He also earned the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with three stars. Each star represents service in a separate campaign in Afghanistan.

Livelsberger had been receiving mental health assistance over the last year, a U.S. official confirmed Friday.

Another U.S. official confirmed that officials thought Livelsberger was stable enough to go home for Christmas and his leave was approved.

[...]

Livelsberger shared personal and political "grievances" in the recovered messages and called the attack a "wake up call," police said.

Livelsberger, an active-duty Army soldier, said the country was being led by the "weak" and those out to "enrich themselves," while also claiming the incident was not meant as a terrorist attack, according to excerpts of the two letters shared by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

In one of the letters police say were found on his phone, Livelsberger expressed support for Donald Trump and the president-elect's allies, Elon Musk and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. He also expressed disdain for diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and income inequality and expressed a concern about homelessness, according to the letters.

In a photo purportedly shared by Livelsberger's wife on Facebook in 2016, the former soldier can be seen wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with an Ukrainian coat of arms and the slogan "Slava Ukraini" or "Glory to Ukraine."

Authorities are also looking into a letter purportedly sent by Livelsberger and shared by the military-themed "Shawn Ryan Show" podcast on Friday. That information was sent to the FBI following the attack, Evans confirmed.

Mr Livelsberger's ex-girlfriend told the Washington Post that he had once told her he suffered a traumatic brain injury during his overseas deployment. Alicia Arritt, a 39-year-old nurse who dated Mr Livelsberger on and off from 2018 to 2021, said he admitted to struggling with memory, concentration and intense guilt over his actions on the battlefield.
