US President Donald Trump canceled the planned Budapest summit after Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected a ceasefire in Ukraine and insisted on demands such as Kyiv's withdrawal from Donetsk. Following a meeting with his Russian counterpart, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio advised Trump to postpone the summit.
