Desecration Panel WWII American War Heroes

I'm pretty much fed up with news stories originating in Trump's MAGA Land of unlimited wealth for the happy few. Here goes ... 🧐

On President Donald Trump's first day in office, he ordered all federal agencies to terminate all of their diversity, equity, and inclusion programs and all DEI offices and positions, including "chief diversity officer" positions. One federal agency, the American Battle Monuments Commission, appeared to disobey that order until it came under scrutiny.

Calls for permanent memorial in Limburg to black US liberators | Dutch News - 10 Nov 2025 |

Provincial councillors in Limburg have called for a permanent memorial to black American servicemen to be erected next to the US war cemetery in Margraten after it emerged that panels commemorating their part in the liberation of the Netherlands in 1945 have been removed.

NRC reported at the weekend that the two panels were taken away from a permanent exhibition at the cemetery, one of which said that black American soldiers had fought on two fronts: against Nazi occupation and racism.

The panels were removed at an unknown time earlier this year, after The Heritage Foundation, a right-wing US think tank, accused the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) of defying Donald Trump's crackdown on diversity programmes.

Jack Cook Laid to Rest in Margraten ¶ Bush's visit to Limburg | 8 May 2005 |

Answer to Sybil in diary – GWB visits Margraten in Limburg, the Netherlands! Secret Service wanted to shut down about 50% of the Limburg province. Was unacceptable, in the end agreed to let GWB stay the night in beautiful small village of Valkenburg, near the Allied cemetery Margraten. I wrote about this in my recent diary:

. I will provide some more INFO about the cemetery, created just inside the border with Germany near Aachen. During the 1944-45 battles as the Allied forces moved east toward Berlin, the Allied rule is that the soldiers cannot be laid to rest in enemy territory.

WWII Anniversary Parade Snubs Push Moscow Diplomatic Shift | Carnegie Endowment - 16 April 2015 |

On May 9—the Victory Day—the majority of top-level visitors will come to Moscow from the non-Western countries. Russia’s quest for acceptance in or by the West is finally over, and its foreign policy will require a new identity and new orientation.

Politics, including international relations, is about symbols as well as actions. When Russia staged the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, it sought to present the image of a modern country, open to the world. Next month, when Russia will hold a military parade in Red Square to celebrate the 70th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War against Nazi Germany, it will be restating its role in the allied victory in World War II.

The USSR, which the present-day Russian Federation regards as its direct predecessor, lost at least 28 million people in that epic war.

Russians generally believe that their most valuable contribution to humanity was the defeat of Hitler's war machine. May 9, Victory Day, has been Russia's true, and truly sacred, national day, ever since 1945.

Since the end of Cold War, the Kremlin has made a habit of inviting world leaders to the Victory Day anniversaries in Moscow.

In 1995, then US president Bill Clinton came to Moscow; in 2005, it was George W. Bush. In 2015, they invited Barack Obama. However, not only Obama is staying at home; with very few exceptions, Western leaders are collectively boycotting the event. This is a way for them to protest over Russia's actions in Crimea and its policies toward Ukraine.

The trend toward minimizing direct contacts with Vladimir Putin had been evident even before the Ukraine crisis. Most Western countries, led by the US, stayed away from the Sochi Olympics, censuring Russia for other transgressions, such as legislation banning gay "propaganda" to minors. In 2013, Obama, in an unprecedented step, canceled his official visit to Moscow, over the Snowden affair.

The West Snubs Putin at 70th Commemoration of Victory Day in Moscow | May 9th, 2015 |

Putin brushes off Western snub at huge WWII victory parade.

My father always spoke well of soldiers in German uniform who were citizens of Belarus. [conscripted by the German occupier ..]

Holland was invaded by Germany on Sunday morning May 10, 1940. My dad was stationed at the famous Moerdijk bridge which was to be blown as soon as the Germans invaded Holland from the south. Dutch armed forces weren’t equipped to stop the German blitz and when the Luftwaffe bombed the city of Rotterdam to force a quick capitulation, the war ended in just a few days with only pockets of resistance in a few weeks.

My dad was briefly taken prisoner by the Germans but released within a few days so he managed to return home. His best buddy was less fortunate as he was killed by a German sniper on that fateful Sunday morning while standing just a few feet aside from my dad.

Fascism and the Nazis destroyed most of Europe and many millions died, were wounded or lives completely uprooted. Under political leadership of President Roosevelt, PM Churchill and military commanders General Eisenhower and Field Marshal Montgomery Dutch territory was liberated between September 1944 and May 5, 1945. The densely populated western provinces of Holland from Amsterdam-Leiden-The Hague-Rotterdam had to suffer during a horrible Hunger Winter of 1944-45 still under German occupation. To survive the Dutch prepared tulip bulbs for meals … thousands would starve during that harsh winter.
