It is believed that the drones did not notice the Ukrainian leader's plane, and then turned their attention to the Irish naval vessel LÉ William Butler Yeats, which was secretly deployed off the coast of Dublin. The drones operated within 12 nautical miles of Irish-controlled waters. A decision was made not to shoot down the drones, and there was no capability on board the naval vessel to disable them. It is believed that an Irish Air Corps aircraft was patrolling at the time, but did not intervene.
Financial Times: Ireland is the weak link in Europe's defense
"NATO allies are unable to communicate a potential danger, such as the arrival of a Russian ship, because Ireland does not have the intelligence systems to receive classified information."
Election victory of president Catherine Connolly, an outspoken supporter of Irish neutrality …
Ireland's location on the western edge of Europe has long made it crucial for global communications, the FT notes, noting that today, around three-quarters of all submarine cables in the Northern Hemisphere run through the country's vast seas, which amount to more than 10 times its land area. Ireland also relies on undersea pipelines to supply most of its energy purchases from abroad, and an attack on such infrastructure could disrupt power supplies across much of the country.
Yet Ireland has no radar or sonar, the FT continues, also underlining Dublin's "constant commitment" to maintaining its neutrality.

The potential threat has been accentuated this weekend by the presence of the Russian spy vessel the Yantar in the Irish Sea. And it most definitely is a Russian spy vessel. This RTE report describes how a …
“… 2017 the weekly publication of the Russian parliament, an official State media outlet, described the Yantar as carrying “devices that are designed for deep-sea tracking, as well as equipment for connecting to top-secret communication cables.”
The Guardian reports here that the vessel has now been escorted out of Irish territorial waters, but while it may be gone the questions it has raised remain.

Is regime change and invasion of a sovereign state the very essence of violating the UN Charter and undoing of FDR’s foundation of the New World Order … wicked rightwing fascism in the U.S. and the Jewish State.

Syria Drama In the Making - the Bush and Obama Years 2005-2013 | 23 Oct. 2013 |
In hindsight one of the best diaries that predicted the Neocon foreign policy, continued under Obama and Ms Clinton, to "democraticize" Syria and bring freedom to the Syrian people. A regional catastrophy in the making.
