Trump: Sudan joins peace accords with Israel, five additional countries to join soon

The announcement comes as Sudan seeks to improve its relationship with the United States

President Donald Trump: On the phone, we have some terrific people: Chairman Abdel al-Burhan and Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok of Sudan -- a beautiful part of the world; and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu -- I think you mostly know him. You perhaps heard of him somewhere. We have the very highly sophisticated press. I think they may have heard of him, of Israel. So I want to just congratulate all of you.

The State of Israel and the Republic of Sudan have agreed to make peace. This is for many, many years they've been at odds, to put it nicely, and to normalize their relations. This will be the third country where we're doing this. And we have many, many more coming. We have -- they're coming at us hot and heavy.

US sanctions Sudan army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan for war crimes |Al Arabiya - 25 Sept. 2024 |

The United States slapped sanctions on Thursday on Sudan's leader, army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.

Washington announced the measures just a week after imposing sanctions against Burhan's rival in a two-year-old civil war, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, commander of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Two of the sources said one aim of the sanctions on al-Burhan was to show that Washington was not picking sides.

Speaking among his soldiers earlier, al-Burhan was defiant about the prospect that he might be targeted.

"I hear there's going to be sanctions on the army leadership. We welcome any sanctions for serving this country," he said in comments broadcast on Al Jazeera television.

The Sudanese army and the RSF together led a coup in 2021 removing Sudan's civilian leadership, but fell out less than two years later over plans to integrate their forces.

In the agreement with the Emirates ... there would be a settlement freeze ... 😊  😊

UAE, Israel normalisation of relations, Israeli settlement freeze announced
Agreement sealed during Trump-Netanyahu-bin Zayed phone call | The Arab Weekly - 13 Aug 2020 |

ABU DHABI/WASHINGTON--US President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan agreed today to the full normalisation of relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, the Emirati news agency WAM reported Thursday.

Under the deal, Israel has agreed to suspend applying sovereignty to areas of the West Bank that it has discussed annexing, senior White House officials said.

In a tweet, Sheikh Mohamed announced that during a three-way call, Israel agreed to stop further annexation of Palestinian territories.

"During a call with President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu, an agreement was reached to stop further Israeli annexation of Palestinian territories. The UAE and Israel also agreed to cooperation and setting a roadmap towards establishing a bilateral relationship," he said.

Delegations from Israel and the United Arab Emirates will meet in the coming weeks to sign bilateral agreements regarding investment, tourism, direct flights, security, telecommunications and other issues.

The two countries are expected soon to exchange ambassadors and embassies.

"Israel for the foreseeable future will be focused on building this relationship and pursuing all the advantages that can come from having this new relationship with this country, and we also (believe it) breaks the ice for doing more normalizations and peace agreements with other regional players as well," one White House official told Reuters.

The joint statement published by the Emirati news agency said: "This historic diplomatic breakthrough will advance peace in the Middle East region and is a testament to the bold diplomacy and vision of the three leaders and the courage of the United Arab Emirates and Israel to chart a new path that will unlock the great potential in the region. All three countries face many common challenges and will mutually benefit from today's historic achievement."

Trump telling the Palestinian people to fu*k off ultimately led to the explosion of anger on 10/7.

Egypt's House says Palestinian cause is `struggle for historical rights' | SIS Gov't - 27 Jan 2025 |

House Speaker Counselor Hanafi Gebaly said that reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the exchange of hostages is only the first step towards achieving peace.

He added in a speech during Monday's session that the circulating suggestions regarding the displacement of Palestinians completely ignore the established fact that the Palestinian cause is not just a 'geographical dispute', but rather `the cause of a people struggling for their legitimate historical rights'.

He noted that the Egyptian House of Representatives expresses its firm and supportive position that supports the cause of the brotherly Palestinian people. He explained that this `Palestinian cause' does not only represent the battle of a people's struggle for their legitimate rights, but also embodies a test of the values of justice, peace and stability.

"Our standing with the Palestinian people is not just a political commitment, but rather a bias towards the truth and the right side of history," Gebaly said.
