Iran announced that it had launched strikes against "terrorist operations" including Islamic State targets in Syria "and destroyed them by firing a number of ballistic missiles."

Iran's strike in northern Syria came after the Islamic State group claimed responsibility earlier this month for two suicide bombings targeting a commemoration for an Iranian general slain in a 2020 U.S. drone strike.

The attack in Iran's Kerman killed at least 84 people and wounded an additional 284 at a ceremony honoring Revolutionary Guard Gen. Qassem Soleimani.

Zelensky threatens Putin's grandchildren | Azerbaycan News - 15 Jan 2025 |

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has threatened Russian President Vladimir Putin's entire family with "criminal trials" and long prison sentences, during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos .

Zelensky's address to the gathering of aspiring global leaders focused on asking for more weapons, money, and ammunition so he could continue to fight Russia. At one point, however, he made a reference to the Russian leader's family.

Putin will not "rest in peace, both in this world and in the next," said Zelensky. "Neither his children, nor his grandchildren."

The Russian leader is "the sole reason why various wars and conflicts persist" and he must be held accountable so his "aggression" doesn't embolden other "autocracies," Zelensky insisted.

"Yes, we are not terrorists, and therefore these will be criminal trials," after which Putin and his entire family would spend "a long, multi-year vacation" behind bars, he added.

Zelensky has repeatedly insisted that Ukraine does not engage in terrorism, while admitting he would have Putin assassinated if the opportunity arose.

The Ukrainian security service, the SBU, has operated a dedicated assassination unit since 2015, according to its former chief.

The Washington Post recently highlighted the SBU's campaign of assassinations while attempting to deflect any blame from the CIA, which is deeply embedded in Ukrainian intelligence.

Ukraine has targeted local Russian officials, as well as journalists such as Darya Dugina and Vladlen Tatarsky. Writer Zakhar Prilepin survived an assassination attempt, while Russian security services thwarted a SBU hit on RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan in November.

Zelensky's mention of Putin's grandchildren came just a day after Anne Applebaum - an American journalist and wife of Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski - claimed that the Russian president "has a grandson with Dutch citizenship" Her source was an associate of Alexey Navalny, a Russian blogger imprisoned for embezzlement.

The Russian president was married from 1983 to 2013 and has two daughters, who have stayed out of the media spotlight. His ex-wife, Lyudmila Ocheretnaya, was sanctioned by the UK in 2022.

We're in the Hundred Years War Europe vs. the Russian Federation ... there will not be any trust in this generation or the next. Hate feeds violence and more wars. Thx for nothing Joe ‼️

Why has the CIA decided to allow US media to confirm its involvement in Ukraine's brutal assassination campaign? | Azerbaycan News - 9 Nov. 2023 |

One of the first claims it makes is that the relationship between the Ukrainian SBU and the CIA has been developing for decades with the latter working to "develop" Ukraine's abilities to carry out sabotage and "operations" since at least 2014. The CIA has also been providing detailed intelligence, equipment and training to the SBU during that period and continues to spend "tens of millions" of dollars developing its capabilities.

The sources quoted also confirm that the CIA even designed and built a new headquarters for the SBU in Kiev and currently share "levels of information and intelligence unthinkable" prior to Russia's intervention in Ukraine.

According to the Washington Post, the CIA also now maintains a significant presence in Kiev, not only in terms of men and materiel but also information flow, all of which suggests that despite maintaining an overt distance, the CIA is in fact intimately involved in all aspects of SBU operations including the planning and execution of operations outside the state.

One such operation, and probably the most infamous carried out by the SBU since February 2022, was the assassination of Daria Dugina, daughter of prominent Russian philosopher Aleksandr Dugin. The Washington Post article goes into great detail to outline the complexity of the "operation" performed by the SBU that resulted in the death of the unarmed 23-year-old non-combatant in a car bombing outside Moscow in August 2022. It tells of the use of a pet carrier to transport explosives into Russia, and of the surveillance of the deceased woman's home by the assassin, who then fled across the border soon after the horrendous killing, which was cynically referred to by the SBU as a "liquidation."

The granular details outlined in the article suggest sources either within the CIA or SBU have now confirmed that their relationship, once presented as purely advisory and business-like, is in fact a deep and long-standing partnership. The article goes on to confirm the SBU's involvement in several other targeted murders on Russian territory, including the assassination of Vladlen Tatarsky with a bomb in a crowded St. Petersburg cafe and the murder of ex-submarine commander Stanislav Rzhitsky, who was shot in the back while jogging unarmed in a park in Krasnodar.

The revealing article also refers to "uneasiness" in Kiev and Washington regarding the SBU's penchant for this kind of assassination, noting concern that they could tarnish Ukraine's image abroad especially among donor countries who recently admitted that without their help Ukraine would collapse within weeks.

What is most interesting about this piece is probably not its confirmation that the CIA is intimately involved in the operations of the SBU, what's most fascinating is why a newspaper widely recognized as itself having an intimate relationship with the CIA has suddenly decided to basically confirm what many analysts already knew when it comes to Langley and the SBU.

War, Next Level of Criminality | 21 Aug. 2022 |

War is dehumanizing, propaganda is a tool and part of dehumanizing a people by which any act in war will be accepted by the other side. A moral compass is way beyond what the the real world possesses. Sliding further down ...

Unfortunately, after the dropping of two atom bombs on Japan by president Truman of the US in August 1945, the world has seen too many wars which have been useless and mostly worsened hardship of the countries involved.

Russia-Ukraine war: Ukraine denies involvement in death of Putin ally's daughter; don't allow Moscow to sow fear, says Zelenskiy - as it happened | The Guardian - 21 Aug. 2022 |

Ukraine has denied involvement in the death of Darya Dugina amid fears the car bombing raises the stakes in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Volodymyr Zelenskiy's top adviser, Mykhailo Podolyak, said in a televised statement that Ukraine had no involvement in the death of Dugina, the daughter of Putin confidant Alexander Dugin.

Podolyak told Ukrainian TV: "I confirm that Ukraine, of course, had nothing to do with this because we are not a criminal state, like the Russian Federation, and moreover we are not a terrorist state."

He appeared to blame internal power struggles between "various political factions" in Russia for the killing, and suggested the incident was the "Karmic" payback for supporters of Russia's actions in Ukraine like Dugina and her father.

EU loses its independence, economic significance -- Lavrov

Business is moving to the US, the de-industrialization of Europe is taking place, the Russian top diplomat noted

The European Union has lost its independence as well as its economic significance, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with US bloggers Mario Nawfal, Larry Johnson and Andrew Napolitano.

"The EU <...> lost its independence and its economic meaning," the top diplomat emphasized.

According to Russia's top diplomat, a representative of the German government said that they would never restore gas supply through the Nord Stream-2 pipeline because they had to "get rid of the dependence on the Russian gas." "But this was the basis for the German economy, for prosperity of the German economy. They pay now 4-5 times more than similar industries pay for gas in the United States. Business is moving to the US, the de-industrialization of Europe is taking place," he added.

"They are ready to sacrifice all this just for the sake of achieving the ideological goal of 'defeating' Russia. They were saying in the battlefield Russia must be strategically defeated. Now they say, we would not accept capitulation of Ukraine. It's a change. A change almost 360 degrees, as [German Foreign Minister] Annalena Baerbock says," the diplomat pointed out.

Possibility of talks between Zelenskyy and Putin came to a halt after Johnson's visit - UP sources | May 5, 2022 |

The news highlights the impact of former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's efforts to stop negotiations, as journalist Branko Marcetic noted on Twitter. The decision to scuttle the deal coincided with Johnson's April visit to Kyiv, during which he reportedly urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to break off talks with Russia for two key reasons: Putin cannot be negotiated with, and the West isn't ready for the war to end.

Ukraine kills Russian chemical weapons chief Igor Kirillov in Moscow | Japan Times |

A top Russian general accused by Ukraine of being responsible for the use of chemical weapons against Ukrainian troops was assassinated in Moscow by Ukraine's SBU intelligence service on Tuesday morning in the most high-profile killing of its kind.

Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov, who was chief of Russia's Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Troops, was killed outside an apartment building along with his assistant when a bomb hidden in an electric scooter went off, Russia's Investigative Committee, which probes serious crimes, said.

An SBU source confirmed that the Ukrainian intelligence agency had been behind the hit. "The liquidation of the chief of the radiation and chemical protection troops of the Russian Federation is the work of the SBU," the source said.

The source said that a scooter containing explosives was detonated, killing both Kirillov and his aide, as they stepped out of a building on Ryazansky Prospekt in Moscow.
