After an unexplained delay of 24 hours, the Biden administration, through the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, released the executive summary of the CIA's classified assessment that Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman ordered the operation that led to Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi's 2018 murder and dismemberment.

How Israel's `plan' for Gaza could turbocharge ethnic cleansing

Israel has launched a new plan for Gaza which could induce ethnic cleansing and advance a genocide, say experts.

Asserting that the "powerful operation in Gaza" was necessary, he went on to emphasise that "there will be a movement of the population to protect it."
Here's what you need to know:

What is this 'plan'?

Israel will expel hundreds of thousands of hungry Palestinians from the north of Gaza and confine them in six encampments.

It says food will be provided to the Palestinians in these encampments, and that it will allow aid groups and private security contractors to distribute it. Palestinians will be forced to move - or starve.

Israel won't be involved in new Gaza aid plan, only in security, US envoy says | Arab News |

A US-backed mechanism for distributing aid into Gaza should take effect soon, Washington's ambassador to Israel said on Friday ahead of President Donald Trump's visit to the Middle East, but he gave few details.

Gaza's residents are facing a growing humanitarian crisis with Israel enforcing a months-long blockade on aid supplies to the small Palestinian enclave in the third year of its war against militant group Hamas.

Ambassador Mike Huckabee said several partners had already committed to taking part in the aid arrangement but declined to name them, saying details would be released in the coming days.

"There has been a good initial response," the former Republican governor told reporters at the embassy in Jerusalem.

"There are nonprofit organizations that will be a part of the leadership," he said, adding that other organizations and governments would also need to be involved, though not Israel.

Tikva Forum, a hawkish Israeli group representing some relatives of hostages held in Gaza, criticized the announcement, saying aid deliveries should be conditional on Hamas releasing the 59 captives in Gaza.

Trump, who wants to broker a deal that would see Israel and Saudi Arabia establish diplomatic relations, will visit Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates next week.

My post @MofA yesterday ...

North Atlantic nations and Kallas of E.U. are scurrying to embrace the need to recognize the State of Palestine ... a sudden pivot across Europe ahead of Trump's travel to Riyadh.

Later in the week, Reuters reported that the United States has dropped its requirement that Saudi Arabia normalize ties with Israel as a condition for advancing civil nuclear cooperation.

Previously, nuclear negotiations were linked to a broader deal involving a US-Saudi defense agreement and the normalization of Saudi-Israel relations. However, Saudi officials have maintained that they will not formalize ties with Israel without the establishment of a Palestinian state, a position that has gained further traction amid the ongoing war in Gaza.

Previously Trump has referred to "friend" Bibi as that "son of a bitch."

Waltz was fired for talks behind the president's back preparing military action against Iran. A double cross doesn't sit well. Trump is on his way on deal making taking wealth from the Arabian peninsula for military goodies ans some security arrangements.

Expand NATO into the Middle East and halt expansion into Ukraine ... a win-win situation. Wants Putin to play ball for PR purpose ... Russia-China left with Iran, losing out with the bigger prize of KSA-UAE-Qatar and perhaps Türkiye too.

It looks like Israel totally underestimated Trump | The Forward - 12 hrs ago |

There is a dawning realization in official Israeli circles that President Donald Trump may not be quite the pushover that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government had assumed. After all, the Netanyahu camp greeted Trump's presidential victory with barely concealed glee. His first term had delivered a series of triumphs for Israel's right wing -- and, truthfully, much of Israeli society.

He recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital and moved the U.S. embassy there, ending the long-running anomaly of countries trying to dictate the location of another nation's capital. Then came American recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, a territory captured from Syria in 1967 and formally annexed by Israel in 1981. He oversaw the Abraham Accords, the 2020 normalization deals between Israel and the UAE, Bahrain, and other Middle Eastern countries. These agreements marked a sea change -- particularly the UAE deal, which for the first time offered Israelis not just formal recognition but a warm embrace, with no visible concessions demanded in return.

For many on the Israeli right, Trump seemed like a dream president: uninterested in Palestinian statehood, unbothered by human rights critiques, uncritical of West Bank settlements, and largely aligned with their "might makes right" worldview. But those days may be gone.

[...]

Left out of the deal? Any promise from the Houthis to stop firing at Israel. The timing, two days after the airport incident, left Israelis once again feeling that Trump had thrown them under the bus.

And Trump, while erratic on Gaza, now seems skeptical of the indefinite war Israel appears to envision.

No surprises for me ...

Who will get Liberman's rose?

Walla's Tal Shalev writes that all eyes are on the Yisrael Beytenu head, who is once again the main kingmaker. She notes that Avigdor Liberman will meet with both Likud and Blue and White once more before making his final decision, making the negotiations sound like something out of "The Bachelor."

  • In Haaretz, Anshel Pfeffer notes that "Liberman has been inciting against Arab Israelis for even longer than Netanyahu -- and in much more blatant terms."
  • Asks Pfeffer: "Has he finally reached the one bridge he cannot pass to accomplish this mission" of defeating Netanyahu?
  • Channel 12's Daphna Liel, though, writes that Liberman has every reason to want to choose a side and avoid elections.
