Oman to host sixth round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and US on Sunday | Arab News |

DUBAI: There will be a sixth round of negotiations between Iran and the United States over Tehran's rapidly advancing nuclear program this weekend, Oman's foreign minister said Thursday.

Badr Al-Busaidi made the announcement on the social platform X.

"I am pleased to confirm the 6th round of Iran US talks will be held in Muscat this Sunday the 15th," he wrote.

Iran for days had been saying there would be talks, but Oman, which is serving as the mediator, had not confirmed them until now.

There was no immediate comment from the US.

Tensions have been rising over the last day in the region, with the US drawing down the presence of staffers who are not deemed essential to operations in the Middle East and their loved ones due to the potential for regional unrest.

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that the Israeli strikes on nuclear and military targets in Iran were “excellent” and warned there was much more to come, in a phone interview with ABC News.

“I think it’s been excellent. We gave them a chance, and they didn’t take it. They got hit hard, very hard. They got hit about as hard as you’re going to get hit. And there’s more to come. A lot more,” Trump said.

ABC News said that the US president refused to comment on whether there was American participation in the strikes.

In Twist, U.S. Diplomacy Served as Cover for Israeli Surprise Attack | WSJ |

Talks seen as a way to keep the peace gave Israel the opportunity to land heavy military blows

U.S. negotiations with Iran aimed at curbing Tehran’s nuclear program were widely seen as an important way to preserve regional peace. They ended up being the perfect cover for a surprise Israeli attack.

With a sixth round of talks between Trump administration envoy Steve Witkoff and his Iranian counterparts set for Sunday in Oman, Israeli and U.S. officials warned of military action if Iran didn’t agree to end its production of fissile material that can be used in nuclear weapons.

Israel Hits Iran’s Offshore Gas Field Persian Gulf

Iran says production at world’s largest gas field partly suspended after Israeli attack

The South Pars field is located offshore in Iran's southern Bushehr province and is responsible for the lion's share of gas production in Iran, the world's third largest gas producer after the United States and Russia.

The strike caused a fire, which has been extinguished, the Iranian oil ministry said. The fire broke out in one of the four units of Phase 14 of South Pars, halting production of 12 million cubic metres of gas, Tasnim said.

Iran produces around 275 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas per year or some 6.5 per cent of global gas output, and consumes it domestically as it cannot export gas due to sanctions.

Iran shares the field with Qatar, which calls the field North Field. Qatar produces 77 million tonnes of liquefied gas from the field with the help of global majors such as Exxon and Shell and supplies the gas to Europe and Asia.
