UAE furious over EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell's 'jungle' remarks
The United Arab Emirates accused the European Union's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell of making "racist" remarks last week and summoned the boss of the EU delegation to the UAE.
The UAE foreign ministry condemned Borrell's controversial remarks, in which he compared Europe to a garden and the rest of the world to a jungle, saying they were "inappropriate and discriminatory" and "contribute to a worsening climate of intolerance and discrimination worldwide."
It asked for a written explanation of Borrell's comments and summoned Emil Paulsen, acting head of mission at the EU delegation to the UAE.

The last time I visited Finland, we - and that was actually last fall - you and I, we discussed how to strengthen the close partnership between NATO and Finland. But I did not imagine that the next time I was going to visit Finland you would have applied for a membership in our Alliance.
What caused this dramatic change was President Putin's war against Ukraine, which has shattered peace in Europe. It is really a game changer. Not just for European security, but also for the global order.
We may have been shocked by Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine. But we should not be surprised.
NATO shared intelligence and warned about a potential invasion for months. It is part of a pattern.

NATO is not part of the war. In response to the war, NATO has two fundamental tasks. One is to provide support to our close partner Ukraine. To uphold its right of self-defence, a right enshrined in the UN Charter. We have done that actually for many years. And since the invasion, we have significantly stepped up our support to Ukraine, and so has Finland, including with military, economic and humanitarian aid. Our aim is to ensure that Ukraine prevails, as a sovereign and democratic state in Europe.
The other task for NATO is to prevent the war from escalating.
NATO's main responsibility is to protect our people. That is why we are strengthening our defence, especially in the east of the Alliance, on land, at sea, and in the air. This is deterrence. Not to provoke, but to prevent a conflict. And to preserve peace.
Putin's ambitions go beyond Ukraine.
The so-called `security treaties' he presented to NATO and the United States last December made demands not only on Ukraine, but also on NATO to refrain from any further enlargement, and remove NATO troops and infrastructure from countries that joined the Alliance after 1997, introducing some sort of first class and second class members of NATO.
These demands amount to the complete re-write of the European security order, enshrined in the Helsinki Final Act. One of the main principles in the Helsinki Final Act is the right of each nation to choose its own path. This is exactly what President Putin is openly contesting. He is trying to establish an alternative world order, where might is right, where big powers decide what smaller nations can or cannot do.

This tactic was employed in 2002/2003 to gin up a justification to attack Iraq, who the US insisted had weapons of mass destruction. We now know it was a lie, but the propaganda was effective in producing support in the US and Europe to invade Iraq. We're seeing a similar effort today, only this time Iran is being falsely accused of enriching uranium to build a bomb. The Iraq WMD lie, like the current calumny against Iran, only has one purpose... justify military action in order to achieve regime change.

Comparison to Blockade
The closest 'act of war' that may be `analogous' to a comprehensive economic sanction may be the act of a 'blockade'. A `blockade' is an act of war which involves restricting ships or aircrafts of some or all nations from entering or existing specific ports or coastal areas of a target country, by the threat or use of armed force. Such an act aims to degrade a country's economy and affect its populace by preventing trade and movement of essential goods. It is included as an act of aggression in Resolution 3314 and also mentioned in Art. 42 of the UN Charter as a type of armed force that may be used by the Security Council.

Following the prosecutions for crimes against peace at the end of the second World War, the United Nations General Assembly affirmed "the principles of international law" recognised by the Charter of the Nuremberg Tribunal and the Tribunal judgment (resolution 95 (I) of 11 December 1946) and directed the International Law Commission (ILC) to formulate those principles and to prepare a code of offences against the peace and security of mankind (resolution 177 (II) of 21 November 1947). The ILC completed some draft principles which followed the Nuremberg Charter in their description of aggression and, later, a code of offences which included aggression; but neither of these documents were adopted by the General Assembly (resolution 488 (V) of 12 December 1950 and resolution 897 (IX) of 4 December 1954).
Definition of Aggression
On 14 December 1974, the General Assembly adopted by consensus resolution 3314 (XXIX) annexing the Definition of Aggression which had been adopted by the fourth special committee. The Definition begins with a broad definition of aggression, drawn largely from Article 2, paragraph 4, of the Charter (though omitting reference to threats) and then enumerates specific examples of acts of aggression. The acts set out in article 3 qualify as acts of aggression, subject to the provisions of article 2, which envisage that the Security Council may decide not to make a determination of aggression in the light of the circumstances, including the fact that the acts are not of sufficient gravity. Article 4 specifies that the list is not exhaustive and that the Security Council may determine that other acts constitute aggression. The issue of self-determination was a live one during the negotiations and it was dealt with in a saving clause in article 7.

"Israel fully supports President Trump's bold decision today to reject the disastrous nuclear deal with the terrorist regime in Tehran," Netanyahu said in a live English-language televised statement from his office, moments after Trump's announcement.
Trump announced the US withdrawal from what he called the "defective" multinational nuclear deal with Iran, signing a presidential memorandum to reintroduce high-level sanctions on the rogue regime.
