Israeli hubris as it celebrates the demise of its enemies will be its ultimate downfall
Today's article …
After the Syrian resistance, allied with Israel's enemy Turkey, toppled Assad ...
The United States and allies of the Gulf States supported the uprising of Sunni community in the Iraq triangle, former army of Saddam Hussein. This was to compensate the effect of a large Shia majority taking political power in Baghdad ... VP Biden always wanted to partition Iraq into 3 federal states of Kurds-Shia and Sunni. The fiasco of the Iraq war at the behest of Israel and Ariel Sharon was to be compensated by creating a Sunni state in Syria.
The major military might for the so called "Civil War" came from foreign fighters (re: Al Qaeda) from Tunesia, Libya, Afghanistan, Chechnya ... hardened fighters many trained by the CIA to overthrow the Soviets. The influx of the Islamic State through NW Iraq along the Euphrates became a serious terror problem. Many Europeans joined IS, now locked up in prison camps (ten thousand?) run by US ally the SDF, now under attack by the forces from Damascus.
The main ground forces doing the bloody battle against IS were the Shia militia in Iraq, with commander Suleimani ... murdered by a treacherous strike from the air by USAF, with intelligence from the British and Israel. The coalition of NATO countries led the air strikes on IS and preserved the oil riches near Deir Ezzor for the SDF by bombing the local Arabs. Later Israel would take part in these bombing raids.
The extremists of the foreign fighters were bussed into Idlib province and were prepared by the US-British-Türkiye for the final blitzkrieg to overthrow Assad. The earthquake disaster cloaked the military goods transported across the border. The support in drone warfare from Ukraine was very welcome. Once so often, the USAF bombs a headquarter inside Idlib province, sometimes described as the Khorasan Group ... linked to Afghanistan.
The US prepares ... Israel does the cleansing. Biden in May 2021 was complicit in the IDF raids on Gaza. Nothing ever changes ... neo-colonialism - Islamophobia - creating Lebensraum.
Shia Calls to Divide Iraq: Why Now? | EPC - May 2025 |
Shia political and armed factions have recently issued explicit and implicit calls for the partition of Iraq, seeking to secure the Shia-controlled region's share of oil revenues, which are expected to decline amid a worsening regional security crisis. While efforts to divide Iraq are not new, the timing of these calls - coming from Shia leaders, some closely aligned with Iran - raises questions about Tehran's future strategy toward Iraq in response to the US "maximum pressure" campaign.
Putting Partition on the Table
On March 1, 2025, former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, leader of the State of Law Coalition - the largest bloc within the ruling Shia "Coordinating Framework" - declared that "the Shiites will monopolize Iraq's oil if they are forced to partition." His remarks appeared to serve as a warning against the growing divisionist sentiment, particularly given his earlier warnings about a "conspiracy to divide Syria and Iraq."
While Maliki's comments might have passed largely unnoticed in isolation, they coincided with other partitionist calls, notably from MP Hussein Mu'anis, a representative of the Kataib Hezbollah militia, one of Iran's closest allies. Mu'anis suggested that partition should be used as a negotiating tool in discussions with Sunnis and Kurds - a proposal that quickly gained traction within militia-affiliated parliamentary and media circles.
There has long been a general consensus in Iraq that calls for the creation of federal regions are often precursors to eventual partition. Concern about partition was notably articulated by the head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zeidan, who in response to calls in 2023 and 2024 for a Sunni federal region or an Anbar region, stated that "the idea of creating regions other than the Kurdistan Region is rejected because it threatens the unity and security of Iraq."
