BIG SUCKERS

Joe Biden 2014-2022

"Europe faces a threat to its cohesion. But this time it's on the eastern front, not the western"

A lot to consume in this strong editorial, it's the underlying decade long development of the Eastern Bloc that has caused the erosion of Western - or Old Europe's principles of the Common Market of the Six. I do put much of the blame in the aggression of NATO to move its frontier eastward and with the Afghan War at the behest of the United States, into a global expeditionary force for regime change wherever. The main culprits are the U.S. under Clinton - Bush - Obama and the U.K. regimes of Tony Blair - Gordon Brown - David Cameron.

The British financial centrum of London is one of the foremost homes of Russian oligarchs to stash their wealth and use their propaganda to overthrow their nemesis, Putin, in the Kremlin.

I wasn't fooled by the U.S. intent of the proxy war on Russia - February 2022.

The End of an Era: The Return of the Taliban and The Fall of Afghanistan | Princeton Political Review |

The world watched in stunned silence as images and news trickled out of Kabul on August 15th. Reports that Taliban fighters had re-entered the capital, virtually unopposed, were paired with shocking videos of Afghan civilians clinging to the sides of US military planes as they took off from Kabul's airport. Not long after, pictures were released of Taliban leaders posing behind the President's desk: an unmistakable symbol of the terrorist group's total victory.

The shock from the climactic conclusion to America's longest conflict has not yet fully worn off, but the silence certainly has, as accusations, counter-accusations, excuses, and blame have been freely flying amongst NATO leadership and the global public. This is certainly understandable, as everyone involved seeks to defend and distance themselves from one of the worst military debacles in modern history. However, Western anger is nothing compared to the fear and uncertainty that now grips the people of Afghanistan. As the country looks set to relive the violent repression and terror of the Taliban's first stint in power, everyone from Kabul to Washington is now asking the same questions: how did we get here, and what comes next?

Historian reflects on lessons learned 50 years after Vietnam

The April 30, 1975, fall of Saigon marked the end of the Vietnam War; CU Boulder scholar Vilja Hulden discusses the war, its beginnings and what we've learned

Of all that's been said about the Vietnam War, perhaps it was this in 1964 from U.S. Sen. Wayne Morse that still stings, even today:

"I believe this resolution to be a historic mistake. I believe that within the next century, future generations will look with dismay and great disappointment upon a Congress which is now about to make such a historic mistake."

Morse was speaking about the Senate's vote to adopt a resolution that authorized President Lyndon B. Johnson to take "all necessary measures" to repel any armed attack against U.S. forces in Southeast Asia.

A few months later, on March 8, 1965, U.S. combat troops landed in Vietnam. By the end of the war, more than 58,200 U.S. soldiers would be dead. Some 25 years into the "next century," dismay and great disappointment abound.

How could this happen--why did the United States enter the conflict?

"This is probably the most hotly debated question regarding the war--and there's no simple answer," says Vilja Hulden, a teaching associate professor in the Department of History at the University of Colorado Boulder, who teaches a class called The Vietnam War in U.S. Culture and Politics.

"The broad background is, of course, the competition with the Soviet Union over the allegiance of developing countries, but why the U.S. decided to go all out to back South Vietnam and eventually to send large numbers of U.S. troops is far from clear."

Hulden's theory: "That each decision was made in a sort of a fog of arrogance and wishful thinking; that is, 'If we do this, then the problem will be off everyone's radar, and we won't have to do more.' But every step took the U.S. further in, and once you have significant numbers of dead Americans, it's hard to back out and say, 'Oops, those soldiers didn't really need to die. We made a mistake.'"

The Enduring Lessons of Vietnam: Implications for US Strategy and Policy | US Army War College |

ABSTRACT: This article argues that the Vietnam War is a useful case study for assessing an enduring flaw in America's approach to war. The United States suffered defeat in Vietnam because it privileged military strength and the pursuit of victory on the battlefield over other elements of national power. As in Vietnam, the wars America will likely face in the future will blend conventional and unconventional methods and use a carefully calibrated mixture of military and non-military means. The United States must situate its demonstrated strengths in conventional war fighting within a holistic framework or face similar strategic outcomes.

Russian Actions and Methods against the United States and NATO
Maj. Collins Devon Cockrell, U.S. Army Article published on 22 Sept. 2017

Russia has worked to upend the post-Cold War European order through an aggressive campaign of information warfare in recent years--so much so that the 2017 European Command Posture Statement identifies Russia as the primary threat, stating that "Russia seeks to undermine this international system and discredit those in the West who have created it." In January 2017, retired Gen. James Mattis, then the nominee for U.S. secretary of defense, stated that Russia was the number one threat to the United States and was engaging in a continuing effort to "break the North Atlantic alliance."

President Vladimir Putin's speech at Munich in 2007 [video] declared that Russia would execute a foreign policy that no longer recognized a U.S.-led, unipolar system.

Not so strange the feeling about NATO's aggressive stance, see the often quoted phrase from former US Ambassador to NATO Ivo Daalder making Russia a pariah state. What do you expect from a regional power, a proud nation with a land mass covering halfway across planet earth.
