USAmerica's WWII Victory Garden program harvested 40% of the vegetables on the Home Front within a couple of growing seasons (1942-1945) and a similar program happened at the same time in the UK.
55% of U.S. households (≈71.5 million) garden
Up to 74% of U.S. adults have gardened
43% of gardeners garden to produce food, with tomatoes grown in 86% of food gardens
30% of all households grow some of their own food
During hard times, participation in gardening increases and 18.3 million new households starting to garden in 2021 during the COVID pandemic
With the weather changing (I saw no crocuses this year), fertilizer becoming more and expensive, and supply chains becoming more and more brittle, it is a good idea to grow something yourself
